thenodrog Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 We should do it how the Greeks did it. Every couple years, you are randomly selected to be an MP for your area. Essentially done the way Jury Service is. I would also add the condition that only people who have been in paid work for 15 years or are aged 40+ (whichever comes last) can be selected. Hey thats virtually my preferred voting criteria! imo One should earn/qualify for a vote and not simply be granted it simply because the age of 18 has been attained.

Guest Norbert Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 And adapt an idea by J. S. Mills and give university graduates 2 votes.............. Anyway, maybe this upcoming scandal is about the deputy speaker allegedly being a gay rapist or something.
thenodrog Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 And adapt an idea by J. S. Mills and give university graduates 2 votes.............. Anyway, maybe this upcoming scandal is about the deputy speaker allegedly being a gay rapist or something. Been arrested again hasn't he? Anybody fancying a cushy number by being a peripheral figure in Westminster and a lightweight politician in the 9th safest Tory constituency in the country for the rest of your days? If so get your skates on and write to the 'men in grey suits' at Conservative head office putting yourself forward. The current incumbent proves that age and experience doesn't matter a jot ..... Oh but rem to take some vaseline to the interview.
Guest Norbert Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I wouldn't be up for it. I can't see myself being in the current Tory party. I just can't go out of my way to sh_t on the lower classes and suck up to tax exiles. Or for the gay raping business either of course. Surely the MP in question is more suited to the Lib Dems given the allegations against him, in both the nature of the offences, and the sex of who claim to be the victims. There is a long history of that sort of thing.
thenodrog Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I wouldn't be up for it. I can't see myself being in any of the current political parties. I just can't go out of my way to sh_t on the lower classes and suck up to tax exiles. Or for the gay raping business either of course. Really? Well tbh I believe they are all tarred with the same brush.... whatever party you choose. You can try telling me different Norbert, but I think you will struggle.
Guest Norbert Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 You are right that all the parties are cut from the same cloth, it is just that sense of pleasure and glee that you and other Tories have in doing it that edges them ahead in that area. There's just something about Cameron, Osbourne etc. that seems to say they have a streak in them that is delighted to use the financial disasters as an excuse to put the workers (i.e. all of us) in our place, and get their posh mates and rich chums more money and power. Of course, you will ignore the most of my previous paragraph and try to label me as some sort of partisan Labour supporter who would give every unemployed person £1m as that fits your tired, warped, 1 dimensional, 1 eyed political narrative. You are no different to Jim in that respect, but you're too arrogant to see it.
Baz Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 If the news is an affair, yawn. Im still amazed at the lack of reaction from the public to the lobbying sting to be honest. That was shocking, those people should be in jail, not just having the whip withdrawn and allowed to be employed until the next election.

thenodrog Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Winston Churchill....... You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they'vetried everything else. The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation withthe average voter. And a couple from the great man especially for Jimmk2 Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospelof envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot.Others look on it as a cow they can milk. Not enough people see it as a healthyhorse, pulling a sturdy wagon.

LeChuck Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 "George Osborne defends choice of burger" Obviously a bit low on scandals at the moment if that qualifies as news!
thenodrog Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Quite appropriate in light of the conclusion of the Oxford Islamic grooming case. 'Political correctness' is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rapidly promoted by mainstream media, which holds the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of sh1t by the clean end. anon
LeChuck Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Bit at a loss here, why have you got a bee in your bonnet over that case? They all got life didn't they?
jim mk2 Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Life isn't good enough for the loony right - they want capital punishment.
thenodrog Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Bit at a loss here, why have you got a bee in your bonnet over that case? They all got life didn't they? There will always be evil and depraved bstards like them but they are only half the problem. Sounds like any number of people pulling in fat salaries in public service were inept almost to the point of condoning the situation. The issue should have been investigated years earlier if the authorities had done their jobs properly and accepted their responsibilities as they should have. Reads like there was plenty of evidence which had been swept under the carpet. I can understand why of course.... I'm sure we all can but that does not make it right to shut ones eyes and hope against hope that when you open them again everything will be OK, cos it rarely is! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-21744674 Those assorted jakraki's are not the only ones who should be waking up in prison this morning.
ABBEY Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 if he had killed YOUR kids or grandkids ? Why should he not have been hung for what he did?
Amo Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 if he had killed YOUR kids or grandkids ? Why should he not have been hung for what he did? Because then you set a precedent of capital punishment, which from a practical point of view simply doesn't work.
ABBEY Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 So toppers I've no idea if you have kids or not.So I ask this to each and every one of you and dont just go for the PC answer either.... IF SOMEONE RAPED AND KILLED YOU CHILDREN , WOULD YOU WANT THEM HUNG FOR IT? I would and if they couldnt I would try to get to them in court. I really can't understand how any normal parent would feel different.

Which is why we have a criminal justice system in place so that due process isn't contravened by personal feelings. Capital punishment was abolished in the UK for a reason.
