West Yorks Rover Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Sounds like Whelan didn't take well to Coyle having a pop at the fans. If only our owners had been that decisive with wee Stevie after the 1% nonsense. Yes but he was unsackable, due to other influences ! But I better not start all that again !

Backroom Mike E Posted December 1, 2013 Backroom Posted December 1, 2013 DE.'s quote from the paper......why do I hear Steve Kean saying those words? Ohhhhh, nothing to do with SEM ofc.
RevidgeBlue Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I like the way Nixon blames a rogue section of the Wigan crowd and Whelan for Coyle's sacking, anyone but Coyle himself. That said I think any Club would struggle attempting a 46 game Championship schedule plus Europa League games on top, let alone a Club of Wigan's size.
perthblue02 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I like the way Nixon blames a rogue section of the Wigan crowd and Whelan for Coyle's sacking, anyone but Coyle himself. And why do you think that is? because it's one of Jerome's boys perhaps? Anyway I'm sure his agent will get something sorted for him and his keaning stupid shorts in some footballing backwater, assistant to Keano in the footballing powerhouse of Asia? One thing though at least the agent will have to actually do some work to get his clients pay off, don't think Whelan will be a soft touch like the loons from Pune. Although glad to see another from that Agency get the boot, not good news from a Rovers point of view if we have any ambitions of getting into the play offs, depending on who Wigan appoint might be the kick start they need.
RevidgeBlue Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Nothing to do with Anderson I think it's an open secret that Nixon and Coyle are chummy and I think I'm correct in saying that Nixon claims some of the credit for bringing Coyle to Burnley's attention before he was appointed there.
West Yorks Rover Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Surprised he got the job in the first place, but has'nt taken long for Whelan to see through his bulls**t. or the fans for that matter. The guy would drive me mental with all the bull he talks and his 100 mph delivery of it. Looks like there could have been some player influence too, according to Wigan fans he may have lost the dressing room.

Fair point forgot about that, and Nixon's boner for wee Scottish managers who give a good presser? but still wouldn't discount his relationship with a certain agency
arbitro Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 The sad part for me is that Coyle and his cronies will walk away with their contracts fully paid up, just as they did at Bolton. And there will be another stupid chairman somewhere who will fall for his flannel and bullish!t. Oh and somewhere along the line his crooked agent will be making money out of this. Sometimes the football industry makes me puke.
Jimmy612 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I've been in Dubai over the weekend for work and hardly saw any football at all. I did briefly have the Huddersfield v Burnley match on in the hotel (no wonder those Arabs love their English football is it ). Quick word on James Vaughan. I always rated him at Everton but injuries were very cruel! Now he's playing regularly he is such a handful for any defence. Big, strong, mobile, good in the air. Think someone said we were linked with him in the summer when Olsson went to Norwich (like a swap deal). Would have been a great bit of business on reflection. Interesting to ask the Huddersfield fans if they would like to do a swap having experienced both Rhodes and Vaughan. Think the answer would be an eye opener for many fans who think we have the best striker in the league. Oh, and he cost £765k. Amazing what you can do when you have a sensible decision making process and a realistic transfer policy!
RevidgeBlue Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Not sure how you've managed to work another completely unsolicited and unjustified attack on Rhodes into a thread about Coyle jimmy but if Huddersfield fans are happy that their Rhodes replacement has worked out well thus far, then good luck to them. I for one am absolutely delighted we have Rhodes at this Club. Let's see how the two compare over the next 2-3 seasons and not just seventeen games. Briefly on Rhodes, I note he is attracting more criticism again. Some people seemingly aren't happy when he's individually scoring for fun and the team aren't doing particularly well overall yet now the reverse has happened and he has worked his knackers off as always whilst not having his best game but the team has looked solid and won you'd think the same critics would be delighted. Not a bit of it, no win situation for the lad in some people's eyes and he must be the only striker in the Country not entitled to go through a lean spell.

The point is Rev, that he never has a good game. I've asked this question before, but how many times has he been the best player on the park?
jim mk2 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I'm not asking Rhodes to be the best player on the field - merely to contribute when he is not scoring and things are not going well for him. Let's face it - on current form Rhodes should have been dropped by now.
longsiders1882 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 10 goals in 17 games - he must be doing something right?
JonnyBRFC Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 10 goals in 17 games - he must be doing something right? This. It's exactly why he's the first name on the team sheet for me. One of the few classy players we have at the club. Without his finishing we wouldn't be here, I can understand people debating that he needs to hold the ball up more, which is why Gestede has been brought in, if he keeps scoring why does it matter that he's not MOM? He's in his second season in the Championship, not a player playing in the Premiership/Champions league, he isn't going to be a complete player or he wouldn't be with us.
Backroom Mike E Posted December 2, 2013 Backroom Posted December 2, 2013 This. It's exactly why he's the first name on the team sheet for me. One of the few classy players we have at the club. JonnyBRFC Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 If he keeps scoring, no problem when was his last goal? Blackpool away wasn't it? You cannot argue his record, both this season and last. 4 games without a goal.
Backroom Mike E Posted December 2, 2013 Backroom Posted December 2, 2013 And even that was a penalty. If he goes much longer without scoring, surely he'll have to be benched? He can't be given special treatment just because he's basically Derbyshire with a bit more nous.
JonnyBRFC Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Penalty or not is irrelevant for me. Wouldn't trust any others to take one! I disagree, he proved it last year he will score if given the chance. Anyway I think we'll line up 442 next with Rhodes and Gestede/Campbell. Who is the favourite to take over at Wigan? Holloway? Or perhaps Mike Phelan?

You guys need to have a chat between yourselves and come to some kind of agreement.
JonnyBRFC Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 You guys need to have a chat between yourselves and come to some kind of agreement. Sorry, is this in regards to JR not getting MOM? I would say the vital goals he has scored, more so last season, kind of makes this void. Who else would of scored the goals? Anyway all personal opinion I guess.

Not a bit of it, no win situation for the lad in some people's eyes and he must be the only striker in the Country not entitled to go through a lean spell. This thread is about the Championship 13/14 Rev. Therefore I thought the best place to put my comment was in here, perhaps you would prefer me to start a brand new thread labelled 'James Vaughan'. Unjustified attack on Rhodes You do get your knickers in a twist. My first and largest paragraph was stating that Vaughan looked very dangerous during the only televised football that I saw this weekend. He really impressed me. Tell me, have you watched him play? I also alluded to the fact that we were linked to him in the summer so perhaps interesting to discuss that he might have been decent for us. I also remember Allardyce was interested in him at one time. Perhaps that's why you instantly dismiss his talents? Because he can be vaguely associated with what in your opinion was such a dark period in our clubs history? My point about Rhodes was that Huddersfield fans have had the benefit of watching both consistently, and seeing as we bought Rhodes for £8m and they bought Vaughan for over 10x less than that, perhaps it would be interesting to discuss how the two compare. I too am pleased that we have Rhodes -doesn't mean I can't comment on a player who is bang in form and who I have admired for probably 5 years or so.
Backroom DE. Posted December 2, 2013 Backroom Posted December 2, 2013 I don't think many people doubt Vaughan's ability but his horrific injury record makes signing him a massive gamble. If he stays fit and continues scoring he'll soon be off elsewhere soon enough.
Blue blood Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Interesting with Sheff Weds, Barnsley and Wigan all sacking their managers could really add a new dimension to the league. All three clubs IMO by appointing the right manager could really become a handful in this division. If the new Barnsley manager gets them playing like they did at the end of the season they will cause anyone problems. Equally Wigan have a good squad on paper, and regardless of Europa league distractions should be doing better. Could make Rovers job of play offs even harder, especially if Wigan appoint well, and make the league even tighter. Of course all three could make disastrous appointments which see the two Yorkshire clubs drop out of the league. Hope not though as both are easy away games to get to.
Backroom Tom Posted December 2, 2013 Backroom Posted December 2, 2013 I personally wouldn't say Rhodes has worked his knackers off over the last couple of games He put in a decent enough shift but it wasn't exactly Dickov style running knackers off
