the transfer embargo for Rovers would only come in January 2015 NOT next summer 2014.

I'm still be very surprised if the FFP goes ahead tbh.

Signing players like Simon Eastwood and Luke Varney isnt the way forward chaddy. They might as well have kept Goodwillie on if Varney was the quality they were targeting.

Eastwood was signed a back up keeper.

Varney has loads of experience in the championship. can play on the wing or up front. give us options. decent signing at this level.

Goodwillie is a awful player.

Evans, Spurr, Gestede, Marshall, Cairney Taylor have been very good signings

Conway and Kilgallon are looking fairly good signings.

You'd rather Goodwillie over Varney? You clearly haven't seen either player. Don't get me wrong, Varney is bang average but Goodwillie is awful. He went back to the Scottish league and flopped! That says it all.

Results last night show why we are rank outsiders for a play off place. There are 5 teams essentially competing for the final play off spot - us, Ipswich, Wigan, Brighton and Reading. The rest are too far ahead now. We're in with a shout but we have to beat all of those four teams imo to have a better than average chance.

I like the players GB has brought in and am quite excited by next season as I think we'll be a real force in the championship. I'd like to see QPR, Forest and Leicester to go up as they are very strong teams. Cannot see Derby and Burnley being as strong next season.

What Rovers lack is a bit of pace and skill on the wings. Conway and Marshall are good wingers but they are very similar - get to the by line and cross. King offers something different but is far too inconsistent. When he is on form he is unplayable and we are a far better team. When we've put team's to the sword this season (a bit of a rarity!) King has been influential - Barnsley, Bournemouth, and Bolton. We need to get a pacy winger in during the summer - a LuaLua, Buckley, Carayol, Ledesma, Dyer type winger. That is the missing piece in our jigsaw.

Also, losing Robinson and Evans for long parts of the season has been a massive blow and think we'd have 6-8 more points if they had been fit all season.

Just a couple of minor considerations then? The finance? The only thing we know for certain is that we have huge debts and are very probably still making losses of at least a million a month. The FFP, according to Shaw will mean a transfer ban next season. That must point to this season being vital, mustn't it? How can Bowyer improve this current squad next season, under those conditions?

As SG said earlier, every season in this league makes it harder to get out of.

IMO.

not if its downward

Serious question on this - when the season kicked off who would you have swapped with a member of the Burnley squad? I recall a few discussions where the general feeling was nobody maybe other than Trippier

The players we've got have the ability to be in the top five. Trouble is we've nothing else. The lack of direction and organisation at all levels of the club is mind numbing,

I didn't want you to have Jones thats for sure...... Oh and I'd have taken the kit man and tea lady in a straight swap for Danny Murphy and Dixon Etohu.

I guess it all points to Dyche doing a fine job for you. Another bonus for you is that he looks and speaks like a lower league manager.

Rovers would certainly have a few more points on the board if hadnt have been for those young keepers especially the Birmingham game at home.

AS for pace on the wings Rovers have one of the fastest players in this league in Josh King.

One of the missing pieces is a driving dominant progressive central midfielder. Evans could be one, Cairney seems too lightweight at the moment to play in the centre for a full ninety in a central two pairing.

Good post. Although there's a few players I have a few reservations about - Judge, Marrow, Eastwood, Songo'o and a couple like Taylor I think are bang average. But overall he's got more right than wrong, and we have a very strong first 11/14 players. Thing is being rovers manager even before the Venkys debacle you had to get 90% right for us to move forward.

Also I do wonder had Robbo been fit if he'd even be here - imo he'd probably have been sold. Think we'd have gone with Kean and Eastwood as keepers, and we've seen what a 'mare that has been. In a way we're fortunate we've been able to hang on to robbo and have a (better) quality replacement ready.

I agree clubs are aiming for that 6th spot. The other five will be contested with the clubs already there.

I saw Brighton V Leeds on tuesday - if brighton Had a decent goal scorer, I would expect them to get that 6th spot. But they don't.

But whoever gets that 6th place, will be up against far stronger teams.

Possible next season for Rovers.

Yep.

Aye and in which case i am struggling to see how next year represents a better chance for us to get promoted than this year.

Its a bang average division this year (Burnley have done well so far but come on...hardly a top team) and 3 will come down with massive Parachutes.

It might become obvious at that point just how badly we have been managed as a club for the last 2 years to those that fail to see the obvious and put the spotlight on just how we did p1ss away our own parachute advantage.

Since bowyer was made permanent manager I think the club has been run sensibly - both on and off the pitch.

The wage bill has been lowered and young talent brought in.

Whether it is too little, too late, remains to be seen. I try and do my bit - season ticket, buying stuff from rovers etc. Sometimes I think I am wasting my time, money and emotional energy. But there is that glimmer of hope that things can be put right now sensible decisions are being made.

We even get a proper financial director next month!

I think we should all do what we can, while we can, and then even if it is too little, too late, we will know we tried. And if it does go pop we can all then write Abbey-style venkyscum posts. Although I think Anderson and co saw them coming, and they are trying to put things right, which is more positive than some 'fans' are being.

Spoken in true venky love style..

Wowsers.

Have you arse licked all your life.

Venkys have been killing the club since they took over Ffs.

And as for that last bit where you are blaming fans that's utter garbage. That is the most pathetic words I've EVER read on here.

It started with and still is VENKYSCUM's fault . Not the fans .

I don't think the club has been run sensibly at any time in the last three years.

Just because there's been a semblance of normality under GB doesn't undo all that's gone before....

Assuming the financial side of things are safe of course.

That's what I've been banging on about for months. You cannot make any judgement without the context and that is what we're woefully short of information on.

IF we've time, then things are heading in the right direction. If we haven't then we're holding on by our fingernails and our grip is slipping all the time.
