roversoutsider Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Cracking news if true. For all their faults , the venkys did invest money into the academy so fair play to them. Hopefully venkys can see the benefits of trusting the right people with money. This summer keeps getting better.
Guest Norbert Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 What in effect does this mean? Is it just something we can mention when trying to attract any young 12 year old to try an make it with us, or are there more benefits?
McClarky Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Is this the thing that lets us steal promising young players from lesser clubs like Burnley and pay them almost nothing in compensation? if so, lets go for it.
CapeTownRover Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Is this the thing that lets us steal promising young players from lesser clubs like Burnley and pay them almost nothing in compensation? if so, lets go for it. i dont think we need anything from Burnley
Eddie Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I think it is also hugely beneficial when it comes to bringing in young players from abroad, it makes the visa process significantly easier.
McClarky Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 It seems to me like another way of making the rich stronger and the poor weaker. Considering that the vast majority of youngsters at the top clubs can only get a game by going out on loan to clubs like us it's argueable whether it brings any benefit to the game as a whole either. Acadamies are held up as the way forward but since they have been in place the quality of English players coming through from the top clubs has been on a sharp downward spiral so I'm not convinced.
OJRovers Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 What was the reason we missed out on Cat 1 status in the first place? Wasn't it a bit of a botched application? I thought that i'd seem some poorer facility clubs get status 1 even though they have nothing like the brockhall academy.

I think it had something to do with not having an all weather pitch, the academy has since installed one.
blueboy3333 Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 there's a bit about the Cat upgrade at the bottom of this article:- http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/10514971.Goodwillie_prepared_to_stake_claim_for_Blackburn_Rovers_place/
Baz Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Is this the thing that lets us steal promising young players from lesser clubs like Burnley and pay them almost nothing in compensation? if so, lets go for it. Yep. Its a real kick in the teeth for those lesser clubs bringing talent through. Another "big club" rule.
bob fleming Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Indeed. It's a joke rule. As I recall it, as a cat 1 club you can recruit 'talent' from any club, any radius. Without that badge you're restricted to a certain mileage / catchment area. I think thats the big difference. It's out of order. Fortunately we have it and fair play to the club - but the game has gone mad. Then again, the cream will rise to the top anyway. I mean why go to City and not get a sniff (Sinclair). The bubble will burst soon. It's boring now at the top. In fact the the Premier League is tedious, but that's where I want us to be, obviously. Like any fan of any club. The whole thing is geared to supporting the big clubs. More so than ever. FFP? Man U were 300m in debt last time I looked! "Serviceable" though I believe. Oh, OK. Cat 1 is great for us. But as we know only too well, the FA, The Premier League and the Football League don't really give a damn either way. No offence to the football league - they don't really have a voice - but why make waves.... ? Just preserve the status quo, and an easy life.
Majiball Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 CAT 1, 2, 3 or 4 is only good if the EPPP works. We've already seen the closure of several academies, wycombe and yeovil for example and I don't see how losing centers is a good thing. All the decisions have been made by the premier league clubs who have basically held the other 72 clubs to ransom. Barnet had to get lawyers involved to gain cat 2 even though they ticked all the boxes. Loads of the smaller centers are cutting corners so we'll see how things get on when they get inspected this coming season.
Andy Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Good news, considering we were deemed cat 2 not too long ago. Shows that some work, planning and/or investments has gone in, which is promising.
Backroom Tom Posted June 30, 2013 Backroom Posted June 30, 2013 Good news, considering we were deemed cat 2 not too long ago. So we got promoted and didn't die trying? Shebby was right all along!
unleaded Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Rovers have a player by the name of Hyuga Tanner........Wizard of Oz Tanner is a skilful young Aussie attacking midfielder...... Well worth keeping an eye on him.............. http://sportskefi.wordpress.com/2012/09/15/alistair-edwards-names-qantas-joeys-squad-for-afc-u-16-championship-2012/
The Rover of Finland Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 How is Modou Cham doing? Reports were promising a year ago.
Backroom Tom Posted June 30, 2013 Backroom Posted June 30, 2013 I'll look forward to seeing him unleaded after all I remember you singing the praises of Hoilett and Nzonzi before most had even heard of them

Guest Norbert Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 The dawn of the Child Snatcher has arrived at Brockhall. Let's steal some talented children from other clubs and Dhuradhurkastan
Ewood Spark Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Confirmed http://www.rovers.co.uk/news/article/rovers-receive-top-academy-rank-894528.aspx Can one of the many conspiracy theorists on here tell me where this news fits in with the .... asset stripping .... Glasgow gangster run .... building housing estates on Brockhall ... BS .... many of us have been subjected to on here for the last couple of years?
Guest Norbert Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 There were some odd theories about, but you cannot deny there were some very crazy things going on since Venky's took over. Agent's sleeping at the training facilities during a transfer window being just one.

Its been a regular hoot with those nice chappies from India, aint it swell.

Glasgow gangster run .... building housing estates on Brockhall ... BS .... many of us have been subjected to on here for the last couple of years?I don't think anyone has quite been able to appreciate just how STUPID Venkys are. Because if we dismiss all other theories, such as former agent over-involvement, that's what we are left with: absolute stupidity. The academy status is good news. Lets hope we don't have the best facilities in League One!
