Today's La Gazzetta dello Sport roughly translated via Google

Livorno - The Livorno closes for Gael Givet . On Monday the experienced French defender should put pen to paper with the formation of the patron Spinelli . Givet, class '81, is free transfer after the divorce with Blackburn .

That's cleared that up then :D

Reminds me of every time I use the translate feature on facebook for my Polish friends' status. You'd be better off reading it in Polish.

How has this Givet saga carried on for so long?? He doesn't want to be here we have always appeared to have a stance of wanting him to stay but if he really wants to leave he can leave but yet he still remains! He must be on some real cash for nobody to have wanted to take on his contract.

I'd imagine his heart problems and suspect fitness in general are other road blocks toward selling him.

Looks like he's finally off, shame really as I think on his day he's better than dann an Hanley. Got the best years out of him anyway. Also just seen skysports confirm jack o'connell's loan to rochdale till January. Songo'o must be signing now surely or we'll be left with only 3 CBS plus edwards as 4th choice

I know Kean was a complete s***, but it is hard to see past Givet being a self indulgent primadonna, who was prepared to take his wage without fulfilling his side of the bargain.

Never knew how much the heart stuff was just another convenient hiding place . It takes more than a beard to be a warrior..it takes a lot to laugh..it takes a train to cry

Givet is a bit of a primadonna and needs strong management - something we've not had since Sam left.

However Givet is also by far the best defender we have both at centre back, and sadly in his weaker position at left back. It's a shame that there's obviously contractual issues as he would be a real asset for us with a decent manager - definitely one of the best cbs in the division.

If you could get his head right i'd agree it just seems for far to long he had mentally checked out i don't know why he was hailed a warrior while MGP was blasted on a constant basis at least MGP went out and tried to earn his wages while the warrior sulked and never looked like trying.

Remember seeing him last season against Leeds away. Took an injury early on (dirty Leeds) but battled through the whole game as our reserve cb was already on as Leeds had already injured Dann. Also recall him being excellent when recalled when Hanley suspended late on in the season. I think he still has it, just he's seemingly not allowed to play if at all possible!

As for Pedersen agree he gets undue stick.

We've not many top division players left now. Nearly a complete clean sweep since Venkys took over...

Givet is a player good enough for the premier league, but we release him on a free.

People say that his heart/head wasn't in it, but I never saw less than 100% from him on the field.

I can't help but feel that there was a smear campaign against him, started by Kean and then continued by Kean's mates.

This feels like another Salgado situation where you have a player that could contribute to the club, but is messed around and then dumped in a very shoddy fashion. Givet, like Salgado, was a warrior and exactly the sort of player we have been missing. Better then anyone else in our back line, IMHO.

Thanks for your efforts over the years, Gael!

Givets problem appears only to be that his wages are high. He's our best defender by a margin.

Yet again a decision made on financial not football grounds.

Would you sooner have Givet or 3 portugese players who don't play? Ill bet theres not much difference in cost.

MGP peaked some years ago and has been living off former glories throughout that time. However, due in part to the halo effect and some niceties he expresses on his blog, the scathing criticism towards him has generated an apologist faction within the fanbase for what has been one of Rovers biggest underperformers in recent years. People argue that if truly declined after Hughes left, then how come he was a cog in Allardyce's team? I thought that would be self-explanatory. Allardyce had limited options at Rovers and a certain "style" of play which encouraged playing for set-pieces. Nine times out of ten Pedersen's set-pieces were poor but he always has the potential to pull a cracker from time to time. That was enough to keep him in an inflexible side that was working the percentages. Let it be said that Allardyce also rated Pedersen on long-throw duty despite the fact 99.99% of them found the head of the opposition. As someone on the higher end of the wage bill who was once one of our more inventive midfielders, it is not unreasonable at all to place a certain expectation on him that unfortunately not been met for several years now.

That's my view also. He doesn't do enough often enough.

My perception is that even in his early days, the offensive/creative Pedersen only came good half way through a season,

Then, as time went on it became only a handful of good games.

The other side of his game-the running and chasing etc -always went more unnoticed. Stats always showed him as covering more ground than most other players in the team....apparently.

I think the general pattern is that he has never done the business often enough-which is probably why he stayed a r

...Rovers player.

One thing I have noticed is that Pedersen no longer attacks the full back when crosses are coming in from the other end. Where he found a lot of success for us earlier in his career was when he had the balls to attack the opposition full back. I can name a few goals off the top of my head where he did this (Norwich at home, Wigan away, Fulham at home, Leicester City at home etc).

He's probably the softest players I've seen at Ewood. Always scared to commit to a challenge and inadvertently costing us possession and goals.

Very poor standard set by himself over recent seasons. Should have sold him when we were offered the money by Spurs and United.
