I thought he worked his socks off on Saturday, never stopped running, although there were times when we failed to pick him out

All strikers experience a mini drought at some stage, Rhodes hasn't really had one in the last 2 seasons. Not saying this is his time for one after just 2 games but even if it does come to that in a few more games time it's no real reason for alarm imo.

If he was more or less ever present and he'd only scored 2-3 goals by Christmas that might be a different matter.

And what would we sell him for then Simon? He'd be worth diddly squat.

Rhodes will be here for his contract....we are his peak, earning wise, a very lucky boy with limited natural footballing ability who got a good deal off the back of total carnage at rovers and I certainly would be paying someone else his wages and fee if I were in the premier league....you could probably get an England international winger for half the money....or a Brazilian playmaker for the same fee.....

No, I'm just pointing out to you that if I were a Premier League owner, I would spend comparable money on someone like coutinho or downing or Carroll or someone else etc.....yes you'd have to pay a bit more, but Rhodes won't be even in the thoughts of premier league clubs when they have the pick of the world....He just ain't good enough, not the finished article they could buy......

Ps. They'd have to pay him more than he gets here anyway...so you're talking @#/?.

But your not a premier league owner??? Past premier leAgue owners have forked out 35 mill for carroll..10mill for wickham...hell even millions for Akinbiyi even spent upto 17mill on borini who took the championship by storm

It's just my opinion mate, it is a forum.....I would not play Jordan Rhodes up front for my team in the Premier League and right now the managers all agree with me or they would just come and buy him.

it is strange when the likes of Swansea and Cardiff are splashing out big money on largely unproven foreigners when theres a good young british striker who scored goals at almost every level who would be cheaper

Except the one that matters... the top one. I suppose a lot of football people can see that Rhodes has peaked and in these days of 4-5-1 / 4-4-1-1 / 4-2-3-1 etc very much represents a square peg in a round hole. The key number being the '1' at the end.

That's a very interesting comment Yoda, as interestingly, the ones who are not showering glory on Rhodes are infact the group who would probably be classed as pro-sam. Theno, Jim Mk2, Den, Me etc.

Cashing in on Rhodes would only be an option if the cash was used to better the squad and therefore improve results over the season. As that is not likely to happen, plus no one is going to pay anywhere near £8m, it looks like we will have to battle on and hope that his goals keep an otherwise poor squad up.

I was personally pro-Sam and I also think Rhodes is a valuable addition to the club, which I wouldn't sell for less than 10 million.

I respect the footballing views of Theno, Jim Mk2, etc., but I really think the issue with the squad is not the strikers, Rhodes, Best, DJ, etc., are fine, but with the defense and our midfield/wingers. Hold onto Rhodes and Best, shift MGP (a great servant but he's not part of this campaign) and Givet (if we can), and reinforce the aforementioned areas would be my personal preference.

Then again, I freely confess my footballing ignorance and will trust to the expertise of Gary Bowyer.

So has Formica actually gone and did we get a fee for him? I thought he was going to Mexico but can't remember seeing anything official (surprise surpise). What about Ribeiro, Jorge and Rosado as well, presume these will be paid off or go on loan for another season. What a meal ticket this club is.

By my reckoning we've permanently shipped out just 3 players and the money we got for Olsson went on paying off Murphy and Gomes. At the same time we have signed 9 players on permanent contracts.

Saying "we've had no bids for Rhodes" once is fair enough. Saying it twice in a week seems a little suspicious to me...

Shaw, just shut your face. I am sure we'll know if and when someone does bid, until then say nothing.
