Out of those 3 you've mentioned I think only Patterson was a local lad.

I think Barker was from Bolton way. Loved watching him, a proper No 4, back in the day when numbers meant something. The only player that I saw dominate Barker was Stuart McCall during a cold Xmas game at Ewood against Bradford.

GAV, I don't know what line of work your in but would you leave your current job and take a pay cut to go elsewhere? Of course not.

Bannan is heading into the prime of his career and needs to maximise as much money as he can. We have to remind that although rovers is our passion, to footballers it is their job and a short career. Most players move for money. Simple as that.

The point being made was that Bannan wouldn't come here because his agent wanted 500k for himself, I don't buy that at all.

Now if someone had said Bannan wanted and extra 500k a year I could buy that.

Still looking Chaddy? I have read that he's brought in 11 players so far. That right?

With the huge squad of under performing nonentities that we have, we needed to reduce the numbers and improve the quality.

It was said on Radio Lancs a couple of weeks ago that we had 52 paid professionals on the playing staff.

52 :o

I haven't gone through the squad myself to substantiate this, perhaps chaddy knows

I don't agree will are Financially screwed but we are certain up against it. Think Venkys are going to have put money into the club through shares or something like this.

And if they don't or won't? How would you describe us then chaddy?

Thankfully this site is just a very small percentage of the popular support, and doesn't really reflect what most fans feel.

David Dunn is held in high regard by many due to being a 'local lad done good' which simply some people can't handle, I'm not sure its a jealousy thing TBH, but its along those lines. Yes he's made mistakes, yes he could have looked after himself better, but even after all this he's made 350 appearances for the club and thats tremendous for a local lad.

MGP has a similar record to Dunn, has been a great servant to the club, and the club should look after him, they gave him the contract, honour it or pay him off.

Bloody hell Gav. @#/? all to do with jealousy and more to do with observation. Surely you must have noticed that Dunny only ever puts a proper full shift in when he has contract negotiations coming up?

I really struggle to get my head around some of the expectations on here (both positive and negative). Why do fans allow other clubs time to gel a squad together yet when it comes to their own beloved club do they not afford the same luxury? In the last few days I've heard last season's saviour likened to Steve Kean! Honestly? Some perspective is needed.

If true, Venkys should fire anyone even remotely connected to that contract, if they haven't left already.

That would cost em too!

Our employment laws over here are a major reason in the decline of this country. Not many are scared of screwing up and getting the sack anymore (the public sector is the worst), people are promoted on length of service and therefore few can be arsed to be bothered to excel.

Preston and Farnworth (Faz & Barker) are pretty local to me !

Does that not make those two "local" to Preston North End and Bolton Wanderers respectively? By "local" I was thinking someone from Blackburn or the Blackburn postcode area like Dunn. I don't see why anyone from Preston should have any more loyalty to Blackburn Rovers than someone from Prestatyn really but I agree anyone who's come through our youth system (Barker) may have more of an affinity towards the Club.

Simon Barker, central midfielder. Went to QPR for a club record 400k in the mid 80's. Would walk into this team.

Bob, so would Patterson etc. I'd kill for a Kevin Hird, John Bailey and an SG amongst a host of others who did have pride in pulling on the shirt!

I think it was DE who appraised the current team and their respective qualities/deficiencies during the Doncaster thread. It really made me rethink. They're all cast offs and no marks! Pissing in the wind if we have expectations from that lot IMO.

With perhaps the exception of Kilgallon, we've signed a load of crap.

The question is why they are free and cheap

I guess you're not expecting an answer Abbey?!

The club needs motivation and that starts from the top. Were the Forest team that won the European Cup twice a team of superstars?

We need strong leadership, not a set of fannies.

More than MGP could be bothered to do Gordon.

In the absence of any incriminating photos, how on earth do you think he managed to wangle a new 4 year deal in 2010?

Must have been his agent showing JW a DVD of his client from 2-3 seasons previously with a sales pitch something along the lines of:

"Take a £10m punt on wages over the next 4 years and he might get back to this!"

Would have thought MGP was rewarded for good service to the club.

Spurr looks a very decent player imo.

I haven't seen Evans or Cairney play yet so can't comment on them.

Aye you're right there and I would love to see Noel the king setting a few up for JR, whilst scoring a few himself.

And, what's your point on this?

Maybe its just an interesting article about a team we had probably never heard of till we nearly sold them a player then took one of there's on trial and am agency strongly linked with our transfers in the Kean era

Wouldn't that be great. A team and player we could truly identify with. Those days are sadly gone and been replaced with sub standards with a highly inflated ego and a whost of parasitic hangers on to boot.

As an addition, RIP Noel 'Boghopper' Brotherston and Mick Heaton.

Never met Mick Heaton but supposed to be a proper fella, Passed the time of day with Noel on a few occasions, used to see him pushing the

pram whilst out shopping with his wife and kids in Blackburn centre, hard to believe someone as fit as he was died of a dodgy ticker, only 38.

On his day he was our George Best, almost unplayable and when it was'nt his day and he was losing the ball on his dribbles, boy did he chase

to get it back.

Two proper legends !

Agree totally WYR. Only once did I see Brotherston meet his match. Viv Anderson at Forest punced him black and blue in a League Cup tie at The City Ground and we lost 6-1.

I went on the train that night with my Dad, as was the norm in those days, just to rub salt in our wounds, most of the train carriage windows were put through by over exuberant Forest fans making it a draughty ride home! These young 'uns don't know they're born!
