"Alex is someone I know well from back in the youth and Reserve team days here," said the Rovers manager.
"He's another player who I feel didn't fulfill his potential here. He went away to Crystal Palace and played towards the back end of the season and just missed out on the Play-off Final.
"He was hungry to come back here and make his mark, which he was unable to do the first time round. That hunger and desire is what we need."

Well that hunger and desire is clearly what was lacking on many occasions last season. He may not have the pedigree of Murphy, Etuhu, Best and several other high earners but I'd wager he can more than make up for that with some hard graft.

pointless signing this...

I take it you've tracked his career since we released him?

No need to make uneducated comments. He is a decent signing who came through the ranks. A player that you can guarantee will work his @#/? off for the club and the kind of ethos we need at the club right now. Too many overpaid fancy morons milked us last season and that is the last thing we need this season.

He could be part of the spine of a team in the lower leagues but I'm not sure he can offer much to a championship team

It's a sobering signing in a way and shows just how much closer we are to sipping squash than champagne

If he's signed to be a backup/rotational player then I think it's a good signing. Cheap wages, motivated, and with an affinity for the club. Maybe he can surprise us and be something more than that. Last season we were paying a fortune to the likes of Etuhu, Murphy, Vukcevic, Formica etc. who weren't contributing much, if anything. It's a squad game, and you need a few players like this to round out the matchday squad.

The interest in Luke Murphy and Jay Spearing would suggest that this is more of a backup/rotation move, and that GB is not looking for Marrow to immediately sovle our midfield woes.

Although I didn't know much of him when he was first at Rovers, I did hear good things about him at Palace.

The fact he is still young and hungry to be a success here is an infinite improvement on players like Murphy and Formica.

Welcome back Alex.

He seriously only played 10 games in 2 years?

Not 10 starts?

He seemed to be a regular for a period and I heard that he was doing well.

Unless I'm thinking of somebody else.

Marrow was signed under Burley and was one of a few players that stood out during the season he signed. He was very active in midfield and got stuck in. However, he then got injured and played for Fleetwood. When he returned, Palace were on a good run and he found it hard to regain his place in the team.

A decent player for a Championship side and as someone has mentioned above, he isn't the answer to our midfield woes, but for a nominal fee, a good addition to the squad as cover.

I maintain pointless signing, and with all due respect to Marrow, he will not bring much more than Lowe. We just needed to bring in Spearing, and have Lowe and Etuhu as backup in that def midfield position. We can't just sign players for the sake of it, whether its an experienced guy or a lower league player. The players need to hit the ground running.

i was with you asapossibly being correct until I saw you say Etuhu as backup. He is totally useless as back up for anything on the pitch and if we can't get rid of him then we should make him do some work around the place to keep him occupied to make sure he doesn't get anywhere near the pitch because he was the biggest waste of space last season

Yet he was still one of our better players at the start of the season IMO, that may not be saying much though!

Edit - just remembered we also have the quietly effective lee Williamson as well so I don't see this signing as a needed one unless we are trying to shift someone

Bringing players who dont improve your team is bad business. (Excluding young talent, Marrow isn't this)

If he was so important and liked at Palace, they surely would have kept him?

Im concerned that most of the players people are quoting we need to "get rid" of, are still at Ewood, and unlikely to leave without a big pay-off. We have a massive 1st team squad, adding "squad" players to it makes no sense.

Im also concerned we are targeting people who Bowyer has experience with, as this to me shows he may be more of a coach, than a manager who needs to be more ruthless.

I havent seen Marrow, but Im basing my judgement on the fact both Rovers and Palace have allowed him to leave without a fight.

Which of the 10 games he managed to be selected for in 2 years after joining Championship Palace did you hear good things about his performance in?

During his spell on loan at Selhurst Park the Palace fans raved about him. I was a bit disappointed when we let him go.

Admittedly though, I don't know what has happened since and, on the face of it, this seems like an odd signing.

No problem with Marrow coming back - he's about our level and the sooner people realise this the better - but we desperately need to shift Etuhu off the wage bill. He's a pointless drain on our finances and has no heart or desire to be here.
