Rover_Shaun Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Jones is an odd one. He did OK last season and his fee is slap bang in Venkys favourite price range.

longsiders1882 Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 Apparently he's a few options (not just rovers and yourselves). It wouldn't be the first time someone has been on trial and not signed mind. No I agree, trialists often sign elsewhere for one reason or another. It was just the claims we had signed him but were delaying the announcement for 'a funny reason, nothing sinister' - I think it more likely that he is using us to help his fitness whilst he weighs up his options
tomphil Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 The delay could just be that his Wigan contract is not up till end of July so options will remain until then in case a ahem....bigger club should come in at the last min For what it's worth i wanted Rovers to sign him as he'll turn out to be a decent player over the course of a season at this level. A bit frustrating at times as he seems to want to turn every ball onto his good foot before making a simple pass and appears to needlessly tie himself in knots at times but apart from that plenty of effort and a eye for goal.
Rover_Shaun Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 2 goals in 12 is an eye for goal? It's like saying I have an eye for winning on the lottery
Reedy You're A Star Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 If you win 1 in every 6 lottery draws, I'd say that was pretty prolific.. Also, what numbers do you use?
tomphil Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 2 goals in 12 is an eye for goal? It's like saying I have an eye for winning on the lottery I meant in my opinion i reckon he will contribute 8/10 goals over the course of a season, not bad for a one peg midfielder. You however do have an eye when to add a sh#te reply to a post, as usual !

Bigger - or just not worried about FFP or bankrupting their club

You however do have an eye when to add a sh#te reply to a post, as usual ! Still not prolific? And don't be precious and throw a tiz when someone disagrees with your hyperbole If you win 1 in every 6 lottery draws, I'd say that was pretty prolific.. Also, what numbers do you use? I won a tenner twice in 5 years so I suppose if the standard for prolific is set so low then yes I suppose I am.

And don't be precious and throw a tiz when someone disagrees with your hyperbole I won a tenner twice in 5 years so I suppose if the standard for prolific is set so low then yes I suppose I am. You were the one who brought prolific into it but just for you i will re state my comment as "an eye for the odd goal". There you go, now no need for you to go looking up big words like 'hyperbole' to add in reply eh! :)
Brfcrule1 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 2 goals in 12 is an eye for goal? It's like saying I have an eye for winning on the lottery B&W I believe when it is said an eye for goal it means he had more shots on target that the opposition keeper has had to make superb saves to keep him out I certainly remember one when that fouling dirty player Shittu came in 2 footed he escaped & Forde had to make a superb one handed save to claw it out of the top corner I reckon players like Shittu should be sectioned one of the most dirtiest players I have ever seen in the championship.
USABlue Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Disappointed we missed out on him, not a great player but good solid performer.
longsiders1882 Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 I'm not sure you have Blue - at least not to us anyway

A 2 in 12 midfielder has an eye for "thumping it in the direction of the goal with all joints crossed in sheer hope"
longsiders1882 Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 How come Longsiders1882 ? I'm just not convinced anything is signed. Perhaps it was finances and maybe if Austin goes (strong rumours linking him with another move, possibly Forest but nothing certain - Nixon tweeting again about him) it will happen but the longer these things drag on the less likely we are to sign him - other clubs will start looking more seriously at him as other options they were working on don't pan out - e.g. your loan move for Spearing that looks like it may have gone sour?

Of course I could well be wrong!!
Rover_Shaun Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 How can they sell Austin if he can't pass medicals?
Ossydave Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 They never re-invest the cash made from sales anyway, it's hardly a secret.
thenodrog Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 How can they sell Austin if he can't pass medicals? Failing medicals is imo more of a fee and salary negotiating tactic than a real injury problem. But maybe I'm just a cynic.
Ossydave Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Jones was thoroughly average for us anyway. He played well in his debut, well - better than the absolute shambles before he came on, apart from that though I can't remember thinking he was the midfield general we need whilst watching a game.

funny-old-game Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Why has GB not taken a punt on David Jones? The midfield we have leading up to new season is only good enough for mid table at best. Jones would without doubt improve this poor excuse of a midfield and he is free!
alexanders Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I agree he would improve the midfield. However i think there's better alternatives around. Also shown by the fact no one has Signed him yet.
Andy Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I think he's still actually contracted to Wigan until the end of the month, so can't sign for anybody until then.
donnermeat Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I may be wrong but in some cases I believe when a player is released from a club, he gets a fee from his previous club if he doesn't sign for another club before the 1st August. It does sound a bit preposterous I know, however I'm sure this was the case with Matt Upson signing for someone a few years ago. So maybe that is why he hasn't signed for anyone yet?
