Hanks Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Shades of Brisbane 2006 as the first ball goes for a wide. England v Australia is always a cracking battle. May the best team win. Remember it well, There were a few hundred Rovers fans crammed into a sports bar in Amsterdam( We were playing Sparta Rotterdam the following day) all geared up for the start of the ashes and Harmison fired into Flintoff's hands at second slip. Then when Anderson came onto ball he was roundly Booed. Quote

Then when Anderson came onto ball he was roundly Booed. Good times! I remember how difficult it was to find somewhere that a) was showing it, and was going to open late. Within a couple of hours I think everyone was resigned to it being a punishing series.... Cook gone Quote
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 The Aussie bowling attack looks pretty promising with plenty of youth and pace in there though obviously inexperienced. Clarke is one of the best batsmen in the world right now but the rest of the batting order doesn't look that dynamic. Crucial wicket taken shortly after lunch keeping this day one interesting. Quote
broadsword Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 (edited) The Ashes starting on a Weds? EDIT: and the first test is at Trent Bridge??? What the heck's happening with cricket these days? Lord's ona Thursday, if you so please. Edited July 10, 2013 by Bryan Quote

Steve Kean's Hypnotoad Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Bairstow's gotta get us to 300 now, anything less is a disaster on a pitch like this. Quote

RibbleValleyRover Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Innings ended. Looks like a really poor effort by England but you don't know what is a good score on this pitch until Australia have batted. Clarke is the real danger man here, he is averaging 66.10 since he took over the captaincy. Quote
adopted scouser Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 rabbits in headlights I got up early for this grrrr Why ? You only watch it for a fortnight ? Quote
jim mk2 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Shades of Brisbane 2006 as the first ball goes for a wide. England v Australia is always a cracking battle. May the best team win. You must be joking. England to win - especially against this lot. Typically poor first-day batting effort by our lot today. Why do we always start Test series so badly ? Quote
bellamy11 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Would hope to get Hughes out before the close of play. I don't rate him one bit. Hashtag mockers. Quote

Batman. Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Nope , watch cricket all year round . Whilst I'm not criticising Cricket, as I do like it, I find it odd that you can find Tennis so boring but like Cricket. Quote
gumboots Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I don't like tennis but watch cricket too. Cricket's meant to be a slow sport - doesn't mean it's boring Quote
Baz Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Bet theres some worried folk with tickets for Saturday now...Sundays already a write off I reckon. Really important 1st hour tomorrow, if the Aussies survive for no more wickets lost it could be a long slog of a day in the field for England, hope Broad is fit to bowl too. Quote
pg Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I think we all expected something like that. Australia has a good fast bowling attack but one Test quality batsman. The rest are rubbish. On paper England should win every test by about 200 runs. Quote

RibbleValleyRover Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 The first hour will probably decide the outcome of the match. If England can strike in the first hour and overall bowl them out relatively cheaply then they should be favorites with Swann bowling on a really crumbly pitch on day 3/4. If Australia can survive until the cloud cover clears and the sun is out then they still have the opportunity to put up some runs, though is that realistic at all with that batting lineup? England have to be favorites to win. Quote

RibbleValleyRover Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 (edited) Worst Aussie batting lineup for decades? A couple were really good deliveries but most of dismissals were due to shocking technique. Not a real contest. Having said that Agar looks a real talent, him and Hughes showing some fight Edited July 11, 2013 by RibbleValleyRover Quote
