Of the two overseas signings this season, one was excellent (Mitchell) and one terrible (De - Grondhomme).

We were crying out for a pace bowler, especially with Gleeson and Mahmood being injury concerns.

De - Grondhomme essentially ousted both Lamb and Vilas as overseas and bowling all rounder, and hasn’t done anything to justify that.

On paper, the batting is great in T20, but I think there’s been an element of no-one taking responsibility, until recently.

Salt should not be opening. We are constantly firefighting after poor starts.

Livingstone is not a captain .

Lamb has been pigeon holed as a one day / T20 player for some time, and evidently his face no longer fits even in that.

With Parkinson, if we had a decent spin bowling coach, I feel he could’ve recovered his form.

It’s been painful to witness his decline. Reminiscent of Kerrigan.

To be honest this redevelopment is an absolute abomination (not that it’s unfinished). They’ve purposely designed it so a shed load of seats are restricted view. And when the fencing is down in most of these seats you will not be able to see 25% of the outfield.

why isn't Jos Buttler captaincy the T20 team? 

Still think we lack quality batsman for the Championship team to bat at 4 and quality fast bowler.

very disappointed that Parkinson is leaving but it appears his career has stalled for the past 12 months for some reason since he made his test debut

The batting is fine, and will be even better when Jennings finally returns.

I agree re - a quick bowler.

Thats what we should’ve gone for instead of De - Grondhomme.

Will the ECB let us play Jimmy if he gets dropped?

I just hope it’s anywhere near as good a game as the first one.

A great contrast of styles, with Australia succeeding in their aim of playing the game at their pace and not allowing England to dictate the terms.

Makes for a fascinating series.

Mark Ramprakash was a decent enough cricketer but never someone you could rely on in a crisis and not the first name that springs to mind when I hear the word ‘winner’ tbh.

Top player in his day, a bit more than decent. He's right though isn't he? Playing "exciting" cricket is pointless if you lose

I don't entirely disagree with him as a general point of principle (who would?) - though personally I thought the errors revolved more around the selection of Bairstow as keeper and the reckless declaration. My point about him is he is not and never will be in a position to comment on Joe Root's batting. I believe they both batted at 3/4 and so are directly comparable. One is arguably England's greatest ever test batsman, the other was a flat track bully at county level but when it stepped up a notch into the test arena used to give his wicket away cheaply just when you needed him to fight for it.

His Test record is poor compared to Root's but then most batsmen's are. That doesn't mean he's not entitled to comment. One of the best commentators I enjoy reading is Steve James in the Times. He  had a long county career and played only a few Tests but his writing about batting techniques and the difficulties facing top-class bowlers is excellent. A must-read for me over the likes of Michael Atherton

Glad they didn't drop Bairstow, he needs games after a long layoff and did more than enough with the bat to retain his place.
