chaddyrovers Posted July 7, 2023 Posted July 7, 2023 England needs a couple of quick wickets tomorrow. Stokes's batting today was a great watch plus Wood's quick innings was fab to watch. Wood's bowling today was great to watch. Broad has Warner's number every time. 2 hours ago, jim mk2 said: 250 will be too much for England to chase Need to knock them over for less than 200 rubbish. anything less 300 runs to win I think England are strong favourites, anything above that will be tough but still more than doable for me. 33 minutes ago, jim mk2 said: Bonkers then back Aussies. Dreams of 1995 Posted July 7, 2023 Posted July 7, 2023 A day of highs and lows but I think we edged it….coincidentally the theme of this test! Some silly cricket has given us the lead. Smith must be kicking himself to be honest. Does anyone know what the “smudge” comment is about from Bairstow? Australia batted like we did in the first two tests. We’ve got to capitalise. An early wicket tomorrow morning and I make us firm favourites Quote

"What we're saying is, if you want to have a mindset of how you want to play, you stick with that, and you've got the backing of the whole dressing-room." Edited July 7, 2023 by chaddyrovers 1 Quote

Livingstone 7 runs of 13 balls in T20, and not for the first time this season he was fecking pathetic. Lower order shambles. Why did Jones take a single on the final ball of the 19th to keep himself on strike. Jones ..... Having said that Surrey are a good side and tactically outdid us by keeping their top bowlers for late overs. But Livingstone, I've seen those pedestrian performances a few times this season from him. Edited July 7, 2023 by AllRoverAsia 1 Quote

But Livingstone, I've seen those pedestrian performances a few times this season from him. It's not just Livingstone, although he's been particular poor this season - how he's captain I'll never know - but you don't see top teams relying on a 37 year old Croft, Vilas, Jones or Wells (who wasn't even playing T20 cricket before he got to Old Trafford!) in a crunch quarter-final. The IPL trio have flattered to deceive throughout the entire comp - fair play to Salt he's turned up in the County Championship so I'll curb my criticism of him somewhat. It's time for a regime change at Lancashire - we last won the County Championship in 2011 and the Blast in 2015 (you have to go back to the 90s for the one day game, which is now a second tier competition thanks to The Hundred). That's unacceptable for one of the major forces in county cricket. 3 Quote

wilsdenrover Posted July 8, 2023 Posted July 8, 2023 From a 2017 interview with Smith: In England, people with the last name Smith, well, cricketers anyway, all seem to get called Smudge. Huss (Hussey) had obviously played a lot of county cricket over there and he was the one that started it. After that, it just stuck. Quote
Ewood Ace Posted July 8, 2023 Posted July 8, 2023 Another year of Southern dominance in the blast for the second time in 3 seasons its an all south finals day. At this rate they are going to have give the Southern group an extra place in the quarter finals. 1 Quote

Is Buttler still contracted for red ball cricket? If he's played 20 red ball games in his 10 seasons there I'd be surprised. Quote

If he's played 20 red ball games in his 10 seasons there I'd be surprised. I think he is contracted for red ball cricket, but basically both he and Livingstone can’t be bothered with it. Last night’s outcome was no surprise to me. The bowling department is lacking, and whilst you can get away with that in the group stages against weaker counties, it will find you out at the business end of the tournament. Injuries to Gleeson and Mahmood have been a major factor, but Lancs knew the score coming into the season and should’ve recruited accordingly, eg a pace bowler as one of the overseas berths. De - Grondhomme was an awful signing and it says it all that he has been dropped. Add to that the Parkinson situation and Hartley’s poor form this season, so spin options also not good. Livingstone is not a captain. How many times did Surrey batters play the ramp shot and he failed to react with field settings. Our batters hardly ever played it, but when they did, Surrey had set the field accordingly. Surrey’s strong bowling unit was the difference. Curran and Jordan are top exponents in T20. Of Lancashire’s attack last night, only Wood might get in Surrey’s T20 team. How on Earth Jones gets in the T20 side I have no idea. It’s simply not his game. Sending him out in that situation last night was ridiculous. A hitter such as Hartley or Bailey would’ve been more appropriate. As @Mattyblue alluded to, Lancs are lacking in ambition on the pitch. County cricket is becoming more like football in terms of player movement, with ambitious counties already signing players for next season. Our Director of Cricket, Mark Chilton, (a cheap and cheerful appointment), appears to be asleep at the wheel. 2 Quote
Mattyblue Posted July 8, 2023 Posted July 8, 2023 Chilton, Chapple, Allott (has he finally stood down?). All seems very jobs for the boys down there. 1 Quote

Allott was replaced by Chilton as Director of Cricket, but is still involved at the club. I think he is involved in the Farington project. Quote
