MCMC1875 Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I've been hoping that Darwen would join the Lancashire League for many years now. Look forward to the East Lancs v Darwen games Darwen v Rishton is only 10 mins by M65. Quote

chaddyrovers Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 England had a great day. 114 for none we are. Rashid blowed his best in a test today. 1 Quote
Steve Kean's Hypnotoad Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Does nothing really for the game does it a pitch like this. Still, good to see England matching India as a minimum which is something I think was beyond a lot of peoples' expectations after the draw with Bangladesh. Great to see a Lancy lad getting his first test 50 as well! Quote
Husky Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 It looks like Lancs will have to find another opener. Quote
matt83 Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Alviro petersen has been charged with six counts of match-fixing. All in South Africa by the look of things. That's him and hameed Lancs have lost today! They need to pull their finger out more than ever and buy some players. Barely a player for next season. At this rate I'll have to dig the bat out of the garage. Quote
chaddyrovers Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Really good test match for England.. Rashid bowling at his best. Ali doing better with his bowling We have finally found a proper opener. 1 Quote
Mattyblue Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Could Cook have been a bit more positive setting up the declaration? Twenty or so more overs for the bowlers to play with... Quote
Gav Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Could Cook have been a bit more positive setting up the declaration? Twenty or so more overs for the bowlers to play with... I think he got it just right Matty, but you're right with another 20 or so overs we'd have probably won... At the start of play having 50 overs at them was widely seen as the wisest move. Great test, sets the rest of the tour up nicely. 1 Quote
onlyonetugay Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Could Cook have been a bit more positive setting up the declaration? Twenty or so more overs for the bowlers to play with... Perhaps he could have been a bit more positive but I'm sure he consulted Bayliss and Farbrace on the declaration . The pitch started to disintegrate as the 5th day progressed but if it hadn't, then India had more than enough good batsman to pull off an unlikely win with a smaller target and more overs. I thought he got the declaration just right and if England had got Kohli early on, they'd have probably won. After what happened in Bangladesh it was important England didn't lose the first test of the series. I think the tour and the challenges ahead will get harder , but our spinners out bowled theirs and we have found a diamond in Hameed ( shame for Lancs but we have to accept that the whole point behind county cricket is to produce players for England) , so I'm pretty optimistic we can be competitive. Baz Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Could Cook have been a bit more positive setting up the declaration? Twenty or so more overs for the bowlers to play with... Cook never sets a positive declaration, he's pretty negative as a captain. Had India had a bit more time, and a few less runs they may have been more attacking, creating more opportunities too. Instead we really gave the Indians and our bowlers a pretty unachievable target. Quote
onlyonetugay Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 (edited) Australia thrashed again and now lost 5 on the bounce. I wonder if Steve Smith's looking on in envy at Cook's cautious declaration ! Edited November 15, 2016 by onlyonetugay Quote
Husky Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Aussie Aussie Aussie! I can't imagine the press over there being much less scathing than in England. I might have to have a quick read and a chuckle or two. Quote
onlyonetugay Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 India 317-4 . Tough day at the office today . Couple of quick wickets tomorrow morning will help get us back into this , otherwise we're looking at a difficult 5 days. Quote
Husky Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 We were always going to be up against it after losing the toss - though we made a good start and the run-out chance and dropped catch certainly didn't help. Nice to see the Burnley lad has still got it at least - 3 for 44 - pretty decent figures on his return. Quote

They've done it before Edited November 18, 2016 by onlyonetugay Quote
Husky Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 This is more like what most people expected - A thorough thrashing after losing the toss. In truth India could declare now if they fancied a day and bit off. Quote
matt83 Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Yeah sadly this test is going how I thought they'd all go. That said the pundits were saying this is a pitch only able to bat on for the first day so when you lose the toss and have to bowl you effectively lose the game before a ball is bowled. Quote
chaddyrovers Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 The wicket is slow and low. Not an ideal wicket for test match cricket tho. England openers have not taken a risk all inning from what Ive watched. Board and Rashid bowled very well tho this mornimg. Rashid look like he has come off age now and become 1st choice spinner Quote
ABBEY Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Board ? Funny how you picked al up for getting a name wrong , ain't it . The wicket is slow and low. chaddyrovers Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 87 for 2. Shame Cook got out right at the end. Can England get 317 from the final day play? I would say its doubtful.. Only see a draw or a India victory but really hope we win tho. I will be up at 4am watching it tomorrow Quote
matt83 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 There was archive footage of England vs saffas from 1995 at Johannesburg on earlier where Atherton batted all day to save the match and get England the draw. Something of that magnitude is needed tomorrow. But on a spinning pitch vs Ashwin I can't see it. It's funny looking back at international cricket in the 90s. Away draws really felt like wins in those days. Shows how far we've come really. Quote
