For a lad that’s only been here since he was 12, he had a pretty strong Cumberland accent a couple of years back, then I heard some fella on the radio news the other day talking about the new captain, I was wondering who it was… it was Stokes! Gone for a bit of a wander that accent 😁

Stokes regards himself as a proud Cumbrian now. He's lived here since he was 12. McCullom should be given a warm welcome as England coach. After the Silverwood disaster, it needed an outsider to come in and shake the team up.

I read somewhere that McCullom, good player as he was, has never coached before. Can that be right ?

He's coached in the IPL and the another white ball league from what I've read. So yes, inexperienced in coaching terms and very much a left field candidate when Kirsten was the obvious choice. Interesting though - he's an impressive type.

Whoever wrote the article I referred to must have meant he’d never coached in red ball cricket before then ?

Its very interesting appointment and given his international experience and he started the New Zealand revolution with Test and one day cricket.

Why? He has been interviewed 3 times for the England coaching job and each time he has missed out on it.

Exciting appointment I think Chaddy, Stokes and McCullum will be a great combo.

The only slight resevration is he doesnt have much coaching experience but I suppose neither did Langer when he took the Austraila job and that turned out pretty well. Hopefully there's better times ahead for red ball cricket.

He can’t possibly be any worse than the previous lot.

Agreed

Very true, making Silverwood coach and selector was a disaster.

Rob Key has made 4 key decisions already. Appointed Stokes as Captain, McCullum as red ball head coach, splitting the head coach role into 2 and bringing back national Selector role.

So Lancashire need 12 wickets tomorrow against Yorkshire to win the game. Unlikely but who knows.

Root's batting was very good and from an England view point its good that he is scoring runs. He will be one of crucial parts of England team under Ben Stokes's captaincy. I am also looking forward to seeing how Brenden McCullum does and how his working Partnership with Ben Stokes works and how well they worked together. It will be interesting to see the squad we pick for the first test and how the team will play under Stokes and McCallum

I am looking very forward to the first test now and I am off work so able to watch it.

Andrew Symonds has past away at the age 46. Another cricketer who has past away this year with The legend Shane Warne, Rod Marsh and Dean Jones.

Yes, very sorry to hear that “Roy” has passed away. A very energetic player, particularly when fielding, and very entertaining both on and off the field. I particularly enjoyed listening to some of his “theories” about the game when commentating on the Big Bash League. R.I.P. Andrew.

I must admit to being less than enthused with the McCullum appointment chaddy, but the more I read about him the more impressed I become.

What he did for NZ cricket starting in 2013 was staggering. He brought a completely new ethos to NZ cricket that we so desperately need here, culminating in NZ winning the test series last year.

I wish him all the best.

I can understand by your first reaction.

I can see why they went for him and given how he rebuild the New Zealand team is where England are not.

I just hope they pick Josh Bohannon and Harry Brook in the line up at 3 and 5. Would be 2 positive moves for me

Look like Roy Key will appoint Australia women's coach Matthew Mott as the next white ball coach according to the Daily Telegraph reporting that the Queenslander is in advanced negotiations after impressing Key's interview panel.

Key has also been taking a lead role chairing the selection process for the first home international of the year on June 2. The former Kent skipper does not intend to hold on to that responsibility in the long term, and is considering returning to a national selector, but has been working closely with Stokes on the initial squad.

James Anderson and Stuart Broad are both certain to return following their omission from the series defeat in the West Indies, Joe Root's last as captain, but the vastly experienced pair could be joined by fresh faces in the form of uncapped trio Harry Brook, Matt Parkinson and Matthew Potts.

With all these fast bowlers who are on Central contracts out injured I have to question whether they would be better off playing matches rather than spending more of their time training. If they spent more game time they may not suffer so many injuries.  Perhaps required to bowl 20 overs a day for two days a week in the county championship who knows how many overs they bowl when training on a central contract!
