What England have done is take back the initiative. Crawley's wicket was stupid again, but that attacking intent has put us well on track to win our first batting session yet again.

You expect Pope and Duckett to now bat the day out. I think this is where "Bazball" has to adapt ever so slightly. It is all well and good going out guns blazing, but at times we need to reign it in.

I agree. I don’t think Bazball is about being anything but ultra positive at all times. I think it’s about not allowing the opponent to dominate you at all. It’s the complete opposite. It isn’t T20. It’s a breath of fresh air for sure. Hopefully the rest of the test cricketing world will take it up.

What a mouth Carey has. Non stop bs. Watching on Astro Cricket TV and for some reason they have stump mike on max volume almost drowning out commentary.

Crawley out to a poor shot but played well.

Lyon down injured, could be a game changer.

Duckett and Pope playing good aggressive cricket shots. I like that.

Pope gets out when well set with another brainless Bazball shot. That's not Test match cricket and this is the Ashes - you just don't do that.

Root lucky to survive too with another silly shot.

I'd settle for them getting 30 or 40 each

Root gone. Commentators on the BBC says they cannot believe what they are witnessing. England were in pole position but throwing their wickets away as if it were a one-day match. Senseless cricket and I do not enjoy it.

The problem is we put ourselves in the winning position. Then we threw it away and let them back in

Lyons went off injured and they had to resort to a short barrage. Why didn't they duck it out and let them tire? Then attack again

They were stupid wickets to throw away. Duckett and Root. Especially Root.

You can attack and be sensible, they aren't mutually exclusive.

The definition of bazball is to entertain and never have drawn matches.

Man for man Australia are the best team yet we could and should have won the first test, basic errors cost us the game. Every minute of every day was exciting, we never knew what would happen next.

Yesterday was a typically boring day at a test match. Today we have bazball and anything can happen.

They say that when you die your life flashes before your eyes ....make sure it's worth watching!! 🤣

Root and Crawley should not be attempting to play T20 innings as both of them are technically excellent, even though Crawley has struggled at times.

The rest of them, go for it, but play the situation, when it calls for consolidation take a step back and calm things down.

When Boycott played the fans queued to get out rather than queued to get in, how times have changed.

England got themselves into a potentially strong position earlier this afternoon.

They did so by playing bazball.

To then play safe and ignore bazball is entirely nonsensical.

Do agree in some way with this John but there's passages of play that you have to be sensible in

They took 3 big wickets by bowling short. There is no way they could have sustained that for a while. We were scoring freely when they pitched up. In my opinion you just soak up the short stuff, let the seamers tire out, and then wait to attack when the part time spinners / tired bowlers pitch up

It was a nonsense period of cricket from an England perspective. I don't think it is betraying Bazball to just relax for brief periods

The short stuff from Australia was a challenge England haven’t faced since Stokes and McCullum have been in charge. Pope, Ducket went about it completely wrong. If they face that again and they well might do, just leave the ball alone. Quickies will soon tire and get dispirited.

Im all for this. Beats 5 day bore draws.

edit.. dreams just posted the same.

I've been shouting at the laptop about the way we've given wickets away but I'm wrong.

I repeat...... If by playing bazball you attain a strong position it is utterly and completely illogical to change tactics.

The Aussies scored at over 4 RPO, that is the opposite of boring.

A major reason we lost the first Test was a mental declaration on the first day with wickets to spare and Root at the crease.

At the moment Stokes and Brooks are playing sensible cricket to see the day out. I trust I've not jinxed them.

Edit: England's first innings is going at a RPO of 4.55

You’re on 98 in Test Match against Australia at Lords and you play a shot like that ! Beyond belief. He may never get another chance to get a century in those circumstances.

That's a fair comment, I could have happily written it myself but I would be ignoring the rules of bazball. 🤠

Yesterday, just as they did throughout the first test, Australia played with a determination not to lose.

Bazball dictates that there should/must be a result.

Duckett and the other 3 wickets were arguably all given away.

Good day on balance for England but it should have been so much better

All our dismissals today were as a result of poor shot selection and or execution and not brilliant bowling. Greens wicket a prime example, a wicket from nothing more than along hop.
