47er Posted July 9, 2023 Posted July 9, 2023 Delighted in the end, great win. Can someone please stop our batters throwing their wicket away by swishing outside leg stump? Its frustrating beyond endurance .Oh---and pick Foakes! Quote

As long as London gets 2 games every series whether it’s a 5 match or 3 match that’s all that matters. Not good enough really. 1 hour ago, jim mk2 said: Yes, that occurred to me too. This absolutely stinks if true it true Jim. Sky Sports commentators have mentioned it a number of times during this test match Quote
47er Posted July 9, 2023 Posted July 9, 2023 Looks like some more "levelling up" is required Chaddy! Quote
Mattyblue Posted July 9, 2023 Posted July 9, 2023 London MUST have its two Tests (used to be three) as the ECB make a fortune from corporate sales. The rest of the grounds can fight over the crumbs. Quote
matt83 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Since Mitchell is out with a groin problem would have been nice if the club captain deemed it appropriate to be in the squad, but you have a rest Livi lad, take the weight off. Get back to the liv golf days out. Take jos as a caddy. As for the starting xi Jones over bell and de grandhomme over balderson. Really?! 1 Quote

chaddyrovers Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 I wonder if Foakes will come into the team now maybe for Bairstow or Ali. Alot depends on the pitch I reckon and whether its will spin Quote
Norbert Rassragr Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Unchanged squad announced, so Bairstow can drop more catches and endanger a result. 1 Quote
Dreams of 1995 Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 We may as well kiss goodbye to hopes of Foakes It is one of them decisions they simply have to stand by. Changing half way through the series is admitting they made a mistake. It won't happen I suspect we will see the last of Bairstow as a batter / keeper though. After the Ashes it can't continue; Bairstow has to be dropped and only used on pitches we can afford an extra batter on. Until then he is a bit of a waste of a spot I also think Foakes would have got a similar amount of runs than Bairstow in this series. I do think Bairstow is the better batter overall, but form is important too 2 Quote
jim mk2 Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 On the face of it their faith is Bairstow is mystifying. Foakes is a more than decent bat, averaging circa 32 in Test cricket to Bairstow's 36, but by common consent is the far superior wicketkeeper. England might be ahead in this series without Bairstow's many mistakes behind the stumps. Whether it's because Bairstow has bought into the Bazball cult more than Foakes one can only guess. It's one of them decisions that just don't make any sense 2 Quote
Ianrally Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 The decision to keep Bairstow will come back to bite our chances of winning the Ashes. The selectors should admit they got it strong. Winning is far more important than saving face. Quote
oldjamfan1 Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 They are very stubborn. That is the kindest thing I can think of to say about Foakes’s omission. Quote
chaddyrovers Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 I'm not surprised they have stuck with the same squad and with Bairstow. They clearly backing Bairstow and want him in the team over Foakes as keeper Quote
Ewood Ace Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Forget Foakes, forget Bairstow. The future of English wicket keeping is James Rew, a very special talent. 1 Quote
wilsdenrover Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 I’m not surprised but I am disappointed (re: Foakes) 1 Quote
Gav Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Bairstow has more than earned his stripes over the past few years, he's done remarkable to come back so soon from that injury too. Saying all that I wouldn't have been disappointed had he been dropped for this one, but you have to admire the loyalty shown here, same with Crawley, who is technically one of our best batsmen, but has struggled at times. Who is missing Ashes cricket already? Me for sure... 2 Quote

chaddyrovers Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Jack Leach has complained about the absence of any northern-based tests in the 2027 Ashes series. England star raises huge Ashes fears vs Australia as ECB make controversial decision (msn.com) well done Leach for calling this out 4 Quote
