Delighted in the end, great win. Can someone please stop our batters throwing their wicket away by swishing outside leg stump? Its frustrating beyond endurance .Oh---and pick Foakes!

2027 - Lords, oval, ageas, edgbaston, Trent bridge.

2031 - Lords, oval, Trent bridge, ot, headingley.

As long as London gets 2 games every series whether it’s a 5 match or 3 match that’s all that matters.

Not good enough really.

Yes, that occurred to me too. This absolutely stinks if true

it true Jim. Sky Sports commentators have mentioned it a number of times during this test match

Since Mitchell is out with a groin problem would have been nice if the club captain deemed it appropriate to be in the squad, but you have a rest Livi lad, take the weight off. Get back to the liv golf days out. Take jos as a caddy.

As for the starting xi Jones over bell and de grandhomme over balderson. Really?!

We may as well kiss goodbye to hopes of Foakes

It is one of them decisions they simply have to stand by. Changing half way through the series is admitting they made a mistake. It won't happen

I suspect we will see the last of Bairstow as a batter / keeper though. After the Ashes it can't continue; Bairstow has to be dropped and only used on pitches we can afford an extra batter on. Until then he is a bit of a waste of a spot

I also think Foakes would have got a similar amount of runs than Bairstow in this series. I do think Bairstow is the better batter overall, but form is important too

On the face of it their faith is Bairstow is mystifying. Foakes is a more than decent bat, averaging circa 32 in Test cricket to Bairstow's 36, but by common consent is the far superior wicketkeeper. England might be ahead in this series without Bairstow's many mistakes behind the stumps.

Whether it's because Bairstow has bought into the Bazball cult more than Foakes one can only guess. It's one of them decisions that just don't make any sense

The decision to keep Bairstow will come back to bite our chances of winning the Ashes. The selectors should admit they got it strong. Winning is far more important than saving face.

Bairstow has more than earned his stripes over the past few years, he's done remarkable to come back so soon from that injury too. Saying all that I wouldn't have been disappointed had he been dropped for this one, but you have to admire the loyalty shown here, same with Crawley, who is technically one of our best batsmen, but has struggled at times.

Who is missing Ashes cricket already? Me for sure...

Maybe I’m misremembering but wasn’t Bairstow’s best form when he was in the team as a batsman and Foakes had the gloves (2022)?

Forget Foakes, forget Bairstow. The future of English wicket keeping is James Rew, a very special talent.

but can he bat??
