Major League Cricket T20 starts tomorrow in the US

Not difficult to guess which 'English' bat for hire is amongst the first to hop aboard this Indian backed gravy train.

I wonder if the ECB has a patent/ copyright or whatever the term is on The Hundred, the Septics after all are all about family values.

If this takes off and expands then the fundamental problem we have is that our seasons clash.

I do not look forward to their bastardisation of the cricketing vocabulary.

England looking to bat Moeen at No 3, according to the papers.

Einstein is alleged to have said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results but this obviously does not apply to the England cricket team

And yet moving him to 3 contributed to us winning the game, because Brook would likely not have scored 75 batting at 3.

The idea should be you have a No 3 who is capable of batting No 3, not an over-promoted No 8

Root should be number 3.

He averages 38 at No 3 and 51 at No 4. You leave your best batter in his best position

Moeen at No 3 is barmy but have to say I can't think of many decent alternatives and it's not as if if it's Pope's best position either

Which helps prove Jim’s point because they had Brook at number 3 for the first innings.

Replacing one ‘not a number 3’ with another ‘not a number 3’ does seem a strange tactic to me.

Would you be tempted to try Stokes at 3? - particularly given the unlikelihood of him bowling much?

I know this ‘conflicts’ with my previous post but *at least* Stokes is a definite pick.

 No.

Is there a decent, in form opener right now? Someone like that could be a number 3 for the short term. Out of the squad though, I can't think of who would work. Ali would not, as going 1 down early would almost make him an opener which is silly.

Alastair Cook is averaging 40 this season… 😁

I guess it suits the team if Pope isn't fit and if Lawrence isn't going to play which it seems cos we need 4 seamers and 1 spinner in the team cos Stokes can't bowl then it has to be this way.

not for me. England's best Batsman and his best scores are done at number 4. why change something that works

He was fine at no 3 before he was captain and seeing as he isn’t captain any longer he’ll be fine there again.

I’m not averse to Ali playing at three. We have some good batters and assuming Woakes plays it’s a long batting line up

Ali is in on a technicality really. If we had another spinner he wouldn’t be here. As such you kind of see him as a bit of a free go

I think Moeen has played everywhere for England. If he can get a quick 30+ at number three then I’m happy. I see him as a bit of a utility man, a night watchman kind of bloke, who is there to try and grind the bowlers and the ball down for Root, Brook, Stokes and Bairstow

Perennial bridesmaids Somerset move above Lancs in terms of trophies won this century. I forget the stat but it’s something like Lancs were/are the joint 2nd or 3rd least successful county this century. So consolidating that lowly position. Derbyshire better not get some players coming through.

The whole reason 'The Hundred' exists is because the ECB invented T20 and then didn't copyright / patent it. They're trying to close the stable door well after the horse has bolted - to the detriment of the Counties I might add.

I think you mean Derbyshire better not woo the fringe Lancashire players who are better than Vilas / deGrandholmme et al, but their faces don't fit. e.g. they missed out on Lamb, he's already off to Sussex.

Gross stupidity shown by the ECB and now they've completely clutter fecked the calendar with The Hundred, a poor man's T20.

If the US based version of T20 succeeds it will drain the best UK cricketer's from our home summers.

It's basically run by the same lot as do the IPL and the new experiment in SA so has every chance of being big.
