Clearly not been for a while. Shocking

There’s barely enough toilets without the scaffolding stand, ridiculous when it’s up. About 10 extra portable loos with 15 minute queues even during the sessions. Dread to think at the intervals.

Spot on chaddy, you called it right a while back.

I don’t think anyone was critical of him being in the team as a batsman.

I’m not convinced he’s done anything to suggest he’s a better ‘keeper than Foakes.

I guess the difficulty would be getting both in the team - maybe having Root as our spinner would allow for that?

Leading to a team (if all fit of) along the lines of:

Crawley, Duckett, Pope, Root, Brook, Stokes, Bairstow, Foakes, Woakes, Wood, Broad

In the subcontinent you’d need a specialist spinner ( probably in place of Woakes?)

He's not. Stokes knows it and claims Foakes as the best keeper in world cricket.

We need 4 fast plus 1 specialist spin.

Broad, Wood and Woakes must all play at the Oval.

Can Stokes bowl a decent session. Is Pope going to be fit.

Oh and Bairstow is a guaranteed place at keeper.

It’s embarrassing. Same every time there’s a crowd. They can’t handle it. It’s scandalous there isn’t an ashes in the north next time round but frankly ot doesn’t deserve one.

I was talking to an Australian during a 45 minute long queue at tea and he said 90,000 at the mcg and he can’t recall ever having to queue.

There’s so many better systems such as troughs like get a festivals and Hyde park concerts. Nope we’ll get about 20 port a loos for an extra 8,000 fans. Truthfully the club doesn’t give a shit about match day experience. Unless on the point balcony of course.

If we’re not playing a specialist wicket keeper why have a specialist spinner?

(I may or may not be being serious here!)

Fingers crossed the forecasters have got it wrong and it soon blows through.

No chance wilsden, this is set I’m afraid, looking in every direction it’s raining.

What’s it say for 16:00 onwards?

Thanks in advance 😀

Back up to 60% rising to 80% by 1900. I've been told the met office app is one of the more optimistic ones so I'm choosing to ignore the others 🤣

Edit: Back up to 60% all day now boooo

A rain interlude prompted by earlier discussion on our No. 3 issues. Some stats have changed since 8/22 but the principle remains.

Wisden As at August 2022

Joe Root is the best opener England have had since Andrew Strauss. He’s also their best No.3 since Jonathan Trott, their best No.4 since KP and their best No.5 since Ian Bell. If you gave him the gloves, he’d probably be the best keeper since Matt Prior. If he had to focus on his off-spin, maybe he’d be the best at that since Graeme Swann. And given he’s bowled the odd bouncer in his time, there’s potential as a seamer too. His 180 against Australia is the highest score by an English non-Cook opener since Strauss, and even when promoted in a pinch in 2016 against India at Mohali, with the ball turning significantly and England’s pre-tour optimism just starting to ebb, he still managed 76. He can’t do everything. But imagine if he could.

Root as opener: 6 Tests, 417 runs at 41.70, 1 100, HS: 180

Fancy being on the same wavelength as Chaddy 😆

Did England bat an hour or so too long yesterday, giving us extra time to take a few more wickets  and maybe even win it? Vaughan kept repeating saying a lead of 200 would be enough given the match could be wiped out

No.

Yes.

I guess the extra hour we batted on yesterday might still have been needed later in the match to chase down the ‘missing’ runs.

Personally I would have declared earlier and ‘worried’ about that scenario if and when it occurred.
