If cricket was decided on the pitch and not by the weather this would be set up for an absolutely thrilling last 2 hours to decide the ashes.

Still a cracking watch though!

Not picking Chris Woakes at Lords a ground he averages 11.33 on with the ball has cost England winning the Ashes. Woakes has been phenomenal since coming in England's player of the series for me.

It wouldn't because it would have been all over yesterday or early this morning at the very latest.

He had a niggle apparently, that was the reason for his omission.

I wouldn't be so brave to assume anything like that in this series

As the last 30 minutes has shown us

Fantastic cricket

Out all day and just tuned in to TMS.... we always do well when I don't check the scores......totally unexpected, please England finish them off

Just shows Woakes should have been picked from the start of the series... a serious error

Broad not taken a wicket, come on Stuart end your career on a high by knocking the last 2 convicts over

This has to be one of the best Ashes series ever, it’s had everything.

Any chance we can play another 5 tests to decide the winner?

That was Wood, Woakes was fit

Agnew definitely said Woakes wasn’t risked due to a niggle.

Great scenes - Shout out for Moeen too, who came out of retirement to serve his country and he’s been brilliant.

And to the physios - how on earth have they got him back on the field after his injury?

Brilliant win for England. Well done England. Stokes managed this team very well and both teams played their part and Stokes got a response from his own players 2 nil down to come back to 2-2 and if Manchester hadn't been rain off I think we would have won the series 3-2.

Yes but he could still do a job the next two winters in India and Pakistan.

I don't doubt to be honest. It will be interesting squad selection for India in January

I would have picked Crawley. Had a brilliant series

Thanks goodness for that. England didn't deserve to lose this series and 2-2 at least gives them a semblence of respectability. Hats off to Broad - what a player and what a way to end a career - but why is he retiring? He's bowling as well as ever. Credit to Mooen too on his Test comeback and retirement (again)

Having said all that, England have blown a golden opportunity to regain the Ashes this summer. This isn';t a vintage convict team and we could have won comfortably this series. The mistakes in selection, captaincy, Bazball tactics and individual errors at Edgbaston and Lord's proved costly, particularly the first Test.

Time to salute the old and bring in the new. Anderson cannot be first choice any longer and there's several candidates waiting to pick up the mantle. Leach can take Moeen's place when fit and there's a couple of promising spinners in the county game waiting for the call. Above all, James Rew has to come in as the new batsman/wicketkeeper.

I agree with most of that Jim. We’ll need to disagree on the ‘Bazball’ thing though - that wasn’t what cost us this series. A combination of two bad decisions in the first test, undercooked players in the first two tests and the bloody Manchester weather cost us the series.

But what a fabulous five games eh?
