Just feel for the fans.

.

Indeed. Cov do have a number of head cases but after the final whistle Cov away (93?) was one of my most memorable moments following BRFC. When their mob advanced across the pitch there was a nervous moment for the police until it was clear that they were coming over to applaud us and shake hands etc.

You may be right, but quite a lot of the smaller amatuer/semi-pro German teams have folded in the last 10-15 years. A lot more than those in our non-league set up. Personally, I think that model should be adapted slightly so we have the top 3 divisions as one body (i.e. pre-Premier League), then League two and the Conference combined to form two regional divisions that could have professional or semi professional teams, then what we know as the Blue Square North/South and the rest of the divisions bin the pyramid system.

Indeed. I've sa\id for many years that 92 full time clubs is way too many given the economics and the infrastructure these days. The fact that every club needs a 'millionaire with a death wish' just to to survive is ludicrous. Matters will come to a head for all sooner rather than later.

I hope so, it's taking the proverbial now. The authorities are more than happy to take the money and run, whilst letting more than 100 year old institutions go to the wall...

The football league, FA etc. are just not fit for purpose, and should all be dissolved by government. Or at least forensicly scrutinised and grilled in the committee rooms of Parliament. Football is a big attraction for this country, and the way it is being destroyed will only lead to more losses in ways that can and cannot be empirically measured. If Coventry City went completely out of business, it would be a blow to the city's identity now Jaguar is mainly based in Castle Bromwich, and the Peugeot factory has long gone.

The attendance at the Burnley game shows that people are losing interest in the game long term, and beyond the glory hunters, it is on life support. The romanticism of the sport has gone, no more Wimbledons are allowed to exist as it all about the top 3 or 4 teams and the narcisistic boasting of shallow 'fans' at work as teams they have never seen live win some game.

Interesting remark about the Burnley attendance, perhaps holidays etc. have a big influence on this?

If we had been playing I wouldn't have gone. Summer and lots to do in garden, lovely day, bike to ride, shopping etc. Kicking off on the first Saturday in August is daft, people have lives outside football.

I do agree with the thought many are losing interest and truly amazed Rovers have reported 10k ST sales. We'll see if that's true next weekend.

Whilst there is a lot to do Paul there is always lots to do if you look for it

I can see people being on holiday may have an adverse affect on the attendance mind

Very, very true Tom. I wouldn't have given up a beautiful day to go Burnley. That I think is the problem, life used to be planned around football, now football is proving difficult to fit in. That's partly due to the state of the club but I think it's probably more to do with KO times.

For me, assuming normal crowd control and not a police state, going to Turf Moor for 12.30 would have meant leaving home at 10.30 to collect my lad etc. and probably get home 3.30/4.00pm. Whole day gone whereas a 3.00pm KO let's one do something with the rest of the day.

Got friendly with cov fans and any of the ticket holders are to be treated as scabs . Same as us scum owners.

The equivalent here would be the likes of John Pittard and his mates. Calling suchlike people scabs is hardly something I'd be comfortable in going along with Abbey.

One of my favourite away games that too, remember after one goal some of our fans spilled onto the pitch, half wearing fancy dress, even the stewards were p*ssing themselves as batman etc pranced around celebrating.

I was thinking reading your first post that in a couple of years' time someone could be posting all that about Rovers.

I like many others hope this never happens to our club.
