Muddboy Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Holy smoke! That's a stunner of a story. It seems even Mellor's finest isn't imune from the perils of gambling. Can you trust anyone in football these days?
cn174 Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Doesn't surprise me. He used to come into my shop a fair bit when I worked in Manchester and we banned him in the end for repeatedly trying to bet without having enough money to pay
Fife Rover Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Holy smoke! That's a stunner of a story. It seems even Mellor's finest isn't imune from the perils of gambling. Can you trust anyone in football these days? A better question would be:...... Can you trust anyone who gambles?
Backroom Mike E Posted August 28, 2013 Backroom Posted August 28, 2013 So he has a salary of a million and debts of 100k? Not much to see here. Moving on.....
Roost Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 It doesnt even say he has debts of £100,000 - just that he ran up debts of £100,000 with one firm. Some call that a line of credit. £1M salary though - money for old rope.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 I don't like Taylor's persona at all as head of the PFA, but on this if he can afford to pay the lossea he has stacked up that is entirely his concern and no business whatsoever of anyone else. Plus arguably if he has first hand knowledge of the undoubted perils of gambling, he is far better qualified to talk about it than someone who hss never placed a bet in their life and is only approaching it from a theoretical standpoint.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 A better question would be:...... Can you trust anyone who gambles? Err, no you can't.
thenodrog Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Well my money's on this being a load of bollax.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Err, no you can't. You may be right but is it any different really to a bloke on 10k p.a. who, instead of going to the Pub spends 20 quid a week at the bookiesfor his enjoyment? And Taylor can probably better afford to lose his money than the bloke with his 20 quid. Or someone on Taylor's sort of money who spends 100k per year on himself holidaying in the world's most exotic locations. Would they be newsworthy stories?
Guest Norbert Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Never liked Taylor. One of the highest paid union bosses, despite the PFA being smaller than many others. He always makes excuses for the arrogance, extravagance and alleged bad behaviour of players, and has no interest in the health of the game as a whole. It's all about the £ for him.
wilyrover Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 I wonder how many people slagging off Taylor realise how much of his own time he's given to charitable organisations in Blackburn? And he's done it for decades and kept it quiet. How many slagging him off have ever done anything voluntarily for anyone else except themselves? Let those without sin - or vices - cast the first stone.

chaddyrovers Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 in my view, This is private matter for Gordon Taylor and his family. He is entitled to his privacy and he should be allow it. Hope he keep his job and continue to do very good job at the PFA

Let those without sin - or vices - cast the first stone. I applaud him for that, and say well done. I just don't like how he previously came across as an apologist for the excesses of the players on and off the pitch. Player X assaults a person in a kebab shop, and he seems to be either silent or playing it down. That sort of thing.
