meerkat
I was thinking a day or two ago about how how Gary Bowyer reminded in looks of Brian Clough.. I had no idea till now that Gary's dad was the great Notts Forrest player Ian Bowyer! Let's hope history repeats itself. Anyone else see the resemblance? Audax
Good observation. Yes, probably more than Michael Sheen but yes, I can see a resemblance.
meerkat
IAN Bowyer doesn't think Nottingham Forest got the credit they deserved for winning the European Cup in 1979 and 1980. "It was a fantastic achievement at the time," said Bowyer. "But it did probably not get the appreciation it deserved in England because we were Nottingham, not a big city team like AC Milan, Real Madrid or Liverpool. Happy days: Ian Bowyer and Kenny Burns lift the 1979 European Cup after Trevor Francis scored the only goal of the game against Malmo in Munich. Much like when we won the premiership! saxo1man30
not sure he looks too much like clough, and he certainly hasn`t got his persona, but he does have the look of a football manager and appears very comfortable in the role. i like the way, after the 2 high scoring wins, he`s kept his feet(and therefore his players feet) firmly on the ground. no bullsh1t guarantees or promises like under the despised kean, just that himself and the players will continue to do their best and see where that takes us.. Audax
To me, Brian Clough excelled much more so when Peter Taylor was his assistant manager. They do well together at Derby and Forest. They needed each other in my view. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Taylor_%28footballer_born_1928%29 WIthout Taylor at Leeds among many other factors, we know BC did not fare well while it seemed Taylor had some success with clubs he managed solely. I read a number of the books out there on Clough. Most are great reading whichever book one goes with.

John Howarth
I was thinking a day or two ago about how how Gary Bowyer reminded in looks of Brian Clough.. I had no idea till now that Gary's dad was the great Notts Forrest player Ian Bowyer! Let's hope history repeats itself. Anyone else see the resemblance? The only resemblence I can see is the fact that Brian Clough and Gary Bowyer were/are always seen in a track suit instead of looking like a manager in a suit. To me it always appears like they wish to be a coach and not a manager. Even after the game yesterday, Bowyer had changed into a red track suit top but not a suit. Most managers now at the higher levels are seen in a suit during and after the game

Guest Norbert
I hope you're not suggesting anything meerkat................. God, that would be one hell of an episode of Jeremy Kyle! As for our Bowyer's dress sense, he can wear a leopard print dress and wellies for all I care just as long as we keep this results going.

Audax
Had to bring up this thread, random thoughts, Brian Clough didn't get along with the players at Leeds, DiCanio has some sort of fall out with the players though I don't know if one can compare the two. Clough, 44 days at Leeds, DiCanio at Sunderland for a limited spell. ------- Back to Clough, the BBC movie, "The Damned United" is actually kind to Clough, he's a hero, now that book, it was real popular but I don't know if I'd recommend it. Link on how the Clough family did not care for the "Damned United" book, really much different than the movie. If I were to be so bold, the main problem with the book by David Peace is probably the portrayal of Clough's problem with alcohol. I suppose he had alcoholism as that article would seem to confirm per the words from the man himself and it probably cut his life short but to do a narrative as that book is per Clough's point of view mixed with this illness probably is where truth breaks down. Just my opinion. But this one despite the strange title which must take from a Clough quotation is good, won the William Hill sport book of the year: The journalist spent a lot of time with Clough. perthblue02
If only the FA had not bottled it (some things don't change ) I'm sure there would have been a few more interesting chapters in the various Clough books, could imagine the cosy old boys club will have had a few of their ties yanked.
