Young defenders are always a little sketchy defensively. I'd play Henley over Kane anyway.

Glen Johnson was pretty bad defensively until he got a little older. The same will be the case with Kyle Walker. You can't give up on them now. People expect to much of young players imo.

I'd have played Henley as well but he's injured. Johnson's still not a great defender. I'm not giving up on Kane but I think he might be more successful further up the pitch. To a certain extent good defenders are born and not made. They have that sixth sense that senses danger two passes before it arrives. I remember seeing Keith Newton as a young player and he had that in spades. He'd be Kane's age and he came up against Cliff Jones of Spurs ( the Gareth Bale of his day ). Jones never got a kick that day, whatever he tried Newton had an answer for it. I knew then he was an England international in the making.

Part of the problem is full backs rarely come up against class wingers these days. Walker looked like a fish riding a bike when that Ukranian No 10 started running at him. In the Newton era every team had wingers who'd give you a chasing if you let them, so you either dealt with them or got moved somewhere else in the team. Fred Pickering and Malcolm MacDonald were two failed left backs that later became tremendous goal scorers. This fashion for playing left side players on the right and vice versa as made the situation worse as well because they very rarely take the full back on down the touch line.

Not read back through the posts yet but i was quite impressed with Burnley yesterday they knock it about well but without creating much real danger. That makes it a good effort from us with a young raw team that were under the cosh on and off the pitch at times but refused to buckle. We aren't great but we are a work in progress and compare the performances of the past few weeks to ANY time last season and there is a world of difference - in a good way. Credit to the clampits fans ( the few who bothered that is :) they made a show of support yesterday throughout the game just as us hardy visitors did. It the made the silence of the last 10 mins in the home stands even more sweeter ! Also ive been a big critic of the overzelous policing of this fixture but yesterday credit to the coppers on duty who seemed to have a more relaxed and jovial attitude to it than any other time over the past 13 years.

That's the point though, we've been conceding similar goals regularly ever since the VenKean take over.

To be fair I think 9 out of 10 times they don't score that goal. It took a v v good strike of the ball which wont happen that often. We restricted them very well and they didn't have many clear cut opportunities. I do think we seem to be getting better defensively and importantly the silly individual errors are happening less and less and really it was mainly Kane who made them (I thought it was him that didn't stick with the man when they scored and didn't clear the ball that led to the sending off).

Importantly even when they had longer periods of possession they didn't open us up easily. Lets be honest about this since Venkys its only Bowyer that has managed to make us look more solid. Its going to take time with such a new team but we already seem to be improving. I have a lot more confidence in the way the team is set up than I ever did under Kean.

Felt that we did not get much credit in press today or on Radio or TV yesterday-more a case of luckless Burnley. We earned the right to a draw at least by the way we attacked in the second half as reflected in the corner count. I can't remember Kean having to do much other than one great double handed punch out in the second half. We were disappointing in not taking advantage of some great positions for free kicks and all those corners-lets turn them into chances. Hope we are working on these tomorrow before Leicester-chances will be very limited there.

I agree with most of what you're saying. However even at this level if you allow an opponent to have an un-pressured shot from the centre of the pitch 20 plus yards out the chances are they'll hit the target. Wether it goes straight at the goalkeeper or in the top corner is another story. When I played we'd several calls we all shouted out when we ran out and during the game. " Defend the D " was one of them. " No free shots " was another.

Credit to the police ? They stood chatting around the coaches but left the area around the fire station unattended . The scruffy chavs were allowed to sit on walls and lob bricks ( or something) at coaches and an Asian threw pebbles. All that money and fans could still have had serious injuries by being hit on the head with a brick.

Im as big a critic a critic of the plod as anyone but just made the point as yesterday although they don't do sod all they didn't seem intent on goading/eyeballing or herding the traveling fans as much as previous years. Didn't see any bricks flying but how are they going to stop a lone tool throwing a pebble ? That's just another reason they should let people travel on there own as a convoy of coaches is a huge sitting duck. Im amazed nowt serious has happened yet. In previous seasons ive seen the official Rovers coaches bricked at Villa and attacked leaving Brum. Both occasions the aggro was started by goading youths ON the coaches.

Rhodes would probably have scored a cracking goal if the defender had not got in the way, he wrong - footed them brilliantly, that's why he ended up

knocking it against Jordan's shin as he was just about to fire home.

To say it was a lucky goal is wrong !

That's my take on it anyway, we deserved a draw.

I expect a convincing, nay spectacular victory, at the home of football in March, to seal 35 years of domination, sending the

' hillbilly hordes ' back across the pennines with tails firmly between their legs.

Interesting point. Another one would be that we can only get better and 3 games 7 points. You're allowed some optimism in life.

I think we also need to give Burnley some credit - they are on a good little run at the moment - and without Dunn we were playing them at the wrong time. They are still top 6 - and could have gone top - and who beat Derby 3-0 in their previous fixture. It is a good point against a form team - on to Leicester now for the next test for Bowyer's babes :-)

I didn't see any horrific pebble throwing and have to say the policing was a credit to the force all day, had good banter with them all day, one even offered to take a group photo for us at Clayton which was decent of him. All credit to the stewards and bar staff too. The whole experience was better this year I thought. Only downside was the disgusting toilets but that was more due to our fans just pissing wherever they saw fit.

I'm pleased that our very young side - a team in rebuilding even - still managed to continue the record. Average age of 22 and a bit, wasn't it?

A club in turmoil, only now (hopefully) showing signs of recovery, the last 3 derbies should have been Bumley's for the taking, yet they still haven't been able to take advantage.

This may sound harsh to some but these last few meetings between our two have seen us mostly second bested and leaving it late for the draw.We may all be glad of the point in the end but Jesus Christ how far have we fallen these last three years?...standards have gone through the floor.

When we all take a step back to assess the situation we all know it's NOT good enough.

You're absolutely right. I said this last season when Dunny equalised in the dying seconds.

This season I see enough steps in the right direction to hold fire, though by the time we meet Burnley at Ewood I expect significant improvement.

Think we deserved a draw on second half performance. Worrying though that for the last 3 derbies we have been outplayed in the first half and Burnley have failed to take advantage when they were on top. Nothing sweeter than snatching something at the end though. Great atmosphere and all in all a great day out. Even the travel seemed a lot less of a hassle this year, we certainly got back quicker.

Stop living in the past, Simon. We all should realise that things have changed for the worse but are now showing signs of getting better.

Also, Sean Dyche is working wonders at Burnley. They are a better side than they have been for years; maybe better than under Owen Coyle.

GB has a young and new squad and they are improving game by game.

Let's enjoy this season as it unfolds. I think it will be exciting for both Rovers and Burnley.

The difference between the 2 sides yesterday was burnleys work rate, they closed us down quickly and didn't allow us to settle on the ball, good tactics against a young inexperienced side.

But they still couldn't beat us!

Totally agree - but that was the good thing - Doncaster were the last team to do that and we got beaten - so there are the shoots of improvement.
