Steven Fletcher, Steven Naismith and Ross McCormack

1st two playing regularly in the Prem and McCormack definitely in better form of late, Rhodes needs to up his game if he

wants to get back in the squad, watched Naismith for Everton the other day looked a decent player, scored a good goal

and much quicker than Rhodes too.

Let's hope he bangs a couple in at Reading on Saturday, just to show Strachan what he will be missing.

You don't need to be a genius to know that if you are playing with a lone striker, Jordan is not the man for that role.

Some of our best performances this season have been with Rhodes up front on his own with Dunn 'in the hole'.

And potentially our best was home against city with Rudy up top alone

Most of the competitive games Scotland play are akin to rovers v city, they won't outclass teams so need to battle, it makes sense that those players are more suited to the role than Rhodes is

Common sense Tom, but the Jordanettes©

wouldn't accept that.

Copy written to me, just as "Paulette's" was. Anyone remember the hordes of Paulette's who wouldn't have a bad word said against him?

All in response to Abbey's "Rhodes haters" of course :)

Correct, the guy is a luxury player. Scotland have decided they can't afford luxuries. We seem to think differently.

Very few teams can afford 'luxuries' at any level of football Tyrone. Ozil looked completely disinterested last night and should have been dragged off as soon as the red card (if not before after that PK). He's a luxury that Arsenal couldn't afford last night and quite often Rhodes is the very same for Rovers.

Question if anyone can answer it btw (sorry off topic).... Was it Ozil that took the freekick straight to Neuer when Bayern scored their second? Koscieny had worked his keans off to win that free kick and then whichever gormless bugger it was decided to try to pump it forward with one man (Koscielny) running after it. I'd have gone absolutely ballistic if I was Wenger. Centre Half hopelessly out of position and possession crassly conceded when getting completely murdered. Defied belief.

The guy who's scored about half our goals since he arrived here is a luxury player? Personally think scoring goals in football is more of a necessity than a luxury.

Having said that I must admit my faith in Rhodes is beginning to wane slightly. For me its nothing about the type of player he is or his ability, I'm just convinced now that he really doesn't wanna be here. The sharpness and competitive edge seems to have gone from his game. Anyone remember the goal he scored away at Barnsley in the 3-1 win last season? It was sheer determination that let him get the best of that defender, find the yard of space and slot in it, was a great goal and crucially pretty much a one-man goal. Hasn't scored one of those for a long while it feels like.

I'm not sure you can call a goal scoring striker a 'luxury player'. It's not like he is an attacking midfielder who needs someone to play behind and cover his runs and can be a liability for his side in some situations

Luxury also seems to suggest he is an unrequired thing of opulence, yet he has scored 140 times in 255 games in the Football league which is some record

I understand he's having a lean spell and isn't contributing greatly atm, but let's give him the benefit of the doubt? We owe our Championship existence to his goals last season and without his goals this season we wouldn't be near the play offs

The key word there is 'Dunn'.

Most strikers need some creative spark behind them. It's common knowledge that without it Rhodes is left isolated, but if there's someone there to feed him, then he will score nine times out of ten. Obviously, he's going through a little barren spell by his own impeccable standards which is only going to highlight the deficiencies to his game. However, name me anyone in the current squad who IS a complete player and whose weaknesses do not impact on the side at times?

If we don't go up this year Amo - and we have no money next season, then personally I would bring in a better manager (if we could find one), tell him to sell Rhodes assuming we could get a decent fee for him and use the money to build a better side. After all, it's the better teams that win games, not necessarily the teams with the goalscorers as we have been seeing at Ewood for the last couple of seasons.

Unless you or someone else has a better idea?

Hmmm, I'm not sure. He's not scored for a while but I am not knowledgeable enough to happily sell him and know another player we could bring in that is both cheaper, better all round and get you the same amount of goals. I'd have to scout a few players extensively before I'd risk it. After all DJ Campbell has had spells where he scored for fun at this level and look how that turned out.
