This must be a spoof....'He has a brilliant change of pace, and he is a great target man. It is not easy to hold the ball up and battle in the air with some of the centre-backs playing in the Championship, because they are often brutal. Most strikers are swallowed up by the aggressive, solid approach of these players. There is one forward, however, that these defenders dread coming up against; Jordan Rhodes. His strength and ability to hold onto the ball when all sorts of tackles are flying in is unmatched in most strikers, even at the highest Premier League level, and this makes him a feared opponent. Rhodes embarrasses and demolishes defences all by himself.'

'He is not just a crucial goal-scorer, but a leader, a player that will inspire the rest of the team to victory' A leader? On what planet does Rhodes ever possess any leadership skills?

What a complete load of old twaddle. Either this is a wind up or just another Jordette who's seat doesn't face the pitch / opinions are based on lazy journalism lauding over JR. To suggest he is the best striker Rovers have had since Shearer is an insult to Andy Cole, Craig Bellamy, Benni McCarthy, Roque Santa Cruz, Chris Sutton (add where appropriate).

Edit: Ahhh no I feel bad now, having read a bit more he's only a young lad. Sorry if you're reading this Will, but be careful what you put into the public domain. On another note, his writing style is very impressive considering he appears to be only 15 or so. Good on him for engaging in his passion to become a sports writer - difficult career to pursue.

I didn't realise he was a young lad either. You wouldn't have thought so, other than the content it was quite a professional article.

Exactly. I was particularly scathing because it was such an articulate piece and my assumption was that it was written by an adult. We must congratulate his writing, whilst perhaps critically analysing the content. Anyway, constructive criticism Will :tu:

His piece on Ozil is very good too.

Any comparison between Rhodes and Shearer other than them both wearing the blue and white shirt must be acutely embarrassing to the former.

At fifteen that means that he was 7 when Shearer hung up his boots for NUFC. Video clips quite simply don't count.

I agree with this.

But we are never going to see a striker as good as Shearer at Rovers again (IMHO).

Agree that it wasn't a great example of skill - but I admired his tenacity - he kept scrapping and throwing himself after the ball, and ultimately it created the chance for the goal.

Paul Dickov'esque

Let's face it, nothing Rhodes does will ever be good enough for some "supporters", hence why they're doing their best to drive him out of the club.

JR receives a lot of praise from everyone on here for some of the stuff he does. Equally he receives criticism for the poorer aspects of his play.

Why don't you watch the highlights again and let me know your thoughts on the two pieces of play that he performed in the build up to that goal.

There are a few well-balanced opinions of Rhodes in this thread but there's a very nasty and bitchy undertone prevalent from the "Experts" sitting in their little ivory tower fault-finding and making snide criticisms because Rhodes can't score blindfolded with his legs tied together. It's not enough that Rhodes is a goal-machine, no, he has to be an Allardyce wet-dream of a target man, as well. Like I've said on numerous occasions, with the exception of Lowe, I don't see every other first-teamer having these polemics aimed at them because they're not the complete player in their respective position.

The others haven't got £8m and forty grand a week sitting on their shoulders.
