Riverside67 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Sounds like a Balaji publicity stunt if you ask me.

West Yorks Rover Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Something strange going on here, why would they want to give him a new contract, when he already has a lengthy one with a bloody good remuneration, especially when he hasn't scored for 10 games or whatever. ' He scores when he wants ' well perhaps he'll start on the dingles after he's signed his new contract. Hat-trick required !

Must admit the timing is strange - but we don't know what clauses were in his existing contract.
T.J.Newton Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 As a fan I don't see this as being a bad thing(he is a very very good player) , but financially it doesn't seem to make any sense and as usual the timing just seems a bit odd, I'm guessing their will be a few new clauses in the contract(minimum fee rease to prem clubs, etc)
SoldierMo Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Im sure minimum fee will be more than what they were originally asking for or else why would they sign him upto a new contract with most likely more wages and to be honest as long as hes here nx season im happy

To be honest selling him is the best way to plug the upcoming hole in our finances as parachute payments drop.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 The cynic in me thinks this is going to include some sort of minimum fee release clause if we don't go up this year.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted March 5, 2014 Moderation Lead Posted March 5, 2014 Just love being a rover, everything can be something negative. The best since Shearer and yet bad.Listen, I like the guy, and he's scored loads of goals for us, but we're hardly flush with cash are we??
martonrover Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Or possibly we are just guaranteeing the best fee for him this summer ? Not a Premiership player and which Championship club will pay the sort of fee we'll be looking for and the wages he'll be after?
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Not a Premiership player and which Championship club will pay the sort of fee we'll be looking for and the wages he'll be after?Possibly one relegated with the huge parachute payments they get from this season ?
martonrover Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Possibly one relegated with the huge parachute payments they get from this season ? Possibly, but I still think it's over the top giving him an improved contract and will make little difference to how much we would get for him.
AllRoverAsia Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 If he scores the winner on Sunday they can pay him a big bonus in a TAN paper bag
McClarky Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Wonder what this is all about, if it's true. Surely we can't be upping his wages can we? He's already massively overpaid for this league. It might be to insert some clauses in his contract to try and get a bigger fee for him because we paid way over the odds for him in the first place. If it's a straioght forward pay rise and longer deal then it's just a sign that lessons haven't been learnt so I'm hoping that there is more to it than that.
Jimmy612 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Just love being a rover, everything can be something negative. The best since Shearer and yet bad. Chris Sutton Matt Jansen Andy Cole Craig Bellamy Benni McCarthy Roque Santa Cruz Yakubu This best since Shearer is a complete myth, laughable and quite frankly an insult to the above.

I agree about the release clause but I don't think it will be as big as some people think. Perhaps an RC of £10m, understanding that clubs are going to try to nip in and take him for £6m this summer. It might give Rovers leverage to not only say to clubs 'there is his RC, that's what we want', but also to tell Rhodes 'we won't sell you for any less' perhaps to prevent him and his agent kicking up a fuss in the summer and demanding he leaves for less than we want. Probably a waste of time because in today's game if a player wants a move, 99% of the time they get it. Why I applause Rodgers for his handling of the Suarez affair.
den Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Apparently it's a huge statement of intent? This lot baffle me. One player on mega bucks while we rid the club of anyone else on decent money and deal in free transfers.
thenodrog Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Theno's head will be spinning! bloody right. Tyrone sums it up. Just as a matter of interest what do people think he is worth currently if we were to put him up for sale? If I were chairman of another club I dont think I'd go past 2m at the absolute tops.
CAPT KAYOS Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Chris Sutton Matt Jansen Andy Cole Craig Bellamy Benni McCarthy Roque Santa Cruz Yakubu This best since Shearer is a complete myth, laughable and quite frankly an insult to the above. Indeed and so Ironic given the posting name (mattjansen)

If I were chairman of another club I dont think I'd go past 2m at the absolute tops. Not often I agree with you much Theno but I am with you on this. Not one for picking up on players after individual matches but as I posted after the Blackpool game last season at Home - he needed to add more to his game and was one of the weakest players I have ever seem - needed to add more to his game or would end up as what is happening now with more doubting his credentials.
mattjansen Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Indeed and so Ironic given the posting name (mattjansen) Should have said best goalscorer since Shearer, Matt Jansen should have been one of the best to play for Rovers but sadly didnt. Still MY opinion
M-K Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Should have said best goalscorer since Shearer, Matt Jansen should have been one of the best to play for Rovers but sadly didnt. Still MY opinion But he doesn't score goals any more.
mattjansen Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 But he doesn't score goals any more. No he is passed it, sell him fast
McClarky Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 bloody right. Tyrone sums it up. Just as a matter of interest what do people think he is worth currently if we were to put him up for sale? If I were chairman of another club I dont think I'd go past 2m at the absolute tops. I would think he's worth about £4 or 5 million in the curent market. A gamble at that though. Shows how much we overpaid for him. If we put a £10m RC in his contract I don't see what difference that would make to anything. if he wants to go and the most anyone will pay is £4M then that's what we'll get for him. Not really a statement of intent when we are attempting to go through a full half season with 2 centre backs on the books.
M-K Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 No he is passed it, sell him fast Wat? I'm just pointing out that having gone nine games in the second division without hitting the target, Rhodes seems to be very far from being the club's best goalscorer since Shearer. He is literally not in the same league as the great goalscorers mentioned earlier in this thread.
