Come the summer, I'd sell while his value is still high and re-invest in the squad.

Easy said. JR does not have enough about him to play in the Prem and any club in the Championship cannot pay big money cos a. they dont have it and b. FFP.

We are set to lose money big style on JR I fear.

The Irony to all the argument is that I don't think we are playing or ever have played to his strength hence all the debate.

What is quite obvious is he is an excellent finisher and goalscorer and can also head a ball - all beit just going through a rut on that at the moment with the chances he has missed - but we just don't have the backup play to be able to use his 'prowess' to full affect and probably only make one or two chances for him per game as a team (imo) hence the need for him to adopt more ti his game.

Assuming we only played with ten men or hadn't spent that money on another 4-5 quality players. The Jordanettes© always disregard that point.

But we would not have been given that money by the Venkys for 4-5 quality players Den. You disregard that point.

No question about it. To employ complete logic.

1. Injuries have rendered our defence woefully weak. No centre halves and two of the weakest full backs for years.

2. We must protect them by playing a 5 man midfield or Burnley will camp out in our half as Bolton did and with their form and strikers we'd get mullered and probably by a bigger score than last weeks Reebok dreadful capitulation.

3. That all means 1 up top. A target man who needs to be able to be just that and be able to hold the ball up, compete physically and aerially with Burnleys CH's and drag them around to create space for Dunny if he plays.

So....

Best lone target man we have is Gestede, second best from what little I saw at Bolton is Varney. Worst is you know who.

Could you not argue that with the back line in as bad shape as you have outlined our best form of def would be to attack and have a go at them for this to work i'd say we play the guy who has around 75% of our goals over the last two seasons.

I disregard it Al because the only people who know whether that's true are the Raos. Even then we would only have been certain of that if they had been tested on it.

One thing that I can see we all agree on is the cost is disproportionate to the product. From my point of view he may be worth his weight in goals, but nobody in there right mind at our level with our financial outlook would spend that on one player.

There are theories as regards his transfer such as Balajis' relegation gift, he only cost 8m over 5 years inc wages etc. I don't think any championship player could be that valuable, but it is obvious through pedantry (or statistics...) that he can cut it at this level.

Will he make it in the top flight? My opinion is yes. Not seen many natural finishers like the lad. May sound daft to put him in this bracket but when he is playing well, he reminds me of Van Nistlerooj. A few of his chipped goals for us have been special.

Which brings me to my final point. How many would Jordan have scored Ina good team over this period? The upheaval of squad and managers would surely have a negative impact on all players at the club. My answer would be lots more.

Finally- must not forget that it all boils down to your opinion of a striker. Personally, I'm more interested in goals. Jason Roberts is a prime example or a player with everything yet an eye for goal.... Funny how was dogged my Rovers fans for year also!

Jason Roberts certainly didn't have everything apart from goals at all what a load of crap. He couldn't trap a bag of cement at times, struggled to stay on his feet mostly and was useless at winning headers unless the ball was put in front of him in the box. A bit of pace and power at times and a handful when on form but overall a poor mans Heskey !

'A poor mans Heskey' - You really didn't rate him!

He'd probably be alright in this team now if he was on form but to say he had everything except goals is a bit far fetched.

Opinions can differ. I saw Jason as a beast. Fast, strong, decent positionally, fair intelligent, a very good foil for a second striker. He deffo lacked a first touch sometimes, I'll give you that. Finishing was his biggest problem though.

Clinical finishing is expensive!

Yeah, but you also see Jordan Rhodes as Ruud van Nistelrooy! :P

I could argue that but I wont..... cos we did exactly that at Bolton 4 days ago and got absolutely mullered! Quite obvious you didn't go.

I would be very happy if/when Rhodes signs this new 5 and half years contract. he is a natural born finisher and his scoring record is 1 goals in 2 games.

cant see him being sold this summer at all, I don't see why any fan would want to sell a natural born goalscorer for.

I would accept that his hold up play isn't the better but it has improved abit this season for me IMO.

also offering Rhodes a new contract IMO is a clear sign that the current owners WONT be selling up or Putting the club in administration at the end of this month like some fans thought they might. also shows that the current owners will continue to finance the club and most likely challenge FFP rules in the UK courts.
