Thankfully it's not about your personal preferences.

If I had been born then, perhaps that comment might have some relevance in my life. Otherwise it's just repetition of the same comment as the first sentence in a differing context, rather like your stuck in your ways.

Really? Well my personal preference would not have seen us lose to burnley. Remind us of yours again maj.

As for stuck in my ways? 'My ways' saw England win the the world cup! My ways saw English teams dominate Europe by winning the European cup 5 seasons in a row AND without foreign players in the teams. My ways also saw a Scottish team win the European cup with a squad of mainly glaswegians.... Remind me what exactly have your ways with all your coaching manuals and scientific theories ever done? What have you and countless theorists all intent on making an easy living from the football gravy train like you actually brought to the party?

Making him captain does seem a bit of a dodgy decision. From what I've seen he's not really a player that fires people up and leads from the front. However he does seem unsubstitutable so he'll never have to hand over the armband.

I slightly see what mattjansen is getting at. Even when playing 2 up front, strikers are outnumbered 5 to 2 as modern keepers are comfortable passing it short as well. Personally I see little point in strikers wasting their energy fruitlessly charging around trying to win the ball back off defenders. Its something fans seem to love but it never actually achieves anything. I prefer them to do the bare minimum jogging and defending the space, simply stopping defenders marching out comfortably with the ball. As far as the rest of its concerned, don't bother and lets win it back in midfield.

And as for running on to hopeful, punted balls, that never works either. Almost all modern defenders have pace. If you're gonna play long-ball, actually aim it and get a bit of loop so Gestede can win the header. Zipping flattish, woeful through-balls in the general direction of our strikers gives them nothing to work with. And chasing after this type of pass is another source of pointless energy-sapping, although again fans seem to get worked up when Rhodes doesn't really bother.

1. Dear me, what a load of rubbish. Watch the top European teams, Bayern, Barcelona, etc, Benfica against Spurs the other night - they work their socks off, all 11 of them.

2. Sam Allardyce's team have made an art of it - and it didn't do us much harm under him either.

I don't like lazy players is you saying that all players who appear lazy to you cannot be the best in the team. Industry isn't something all exude nor is it a prerequisite for success as history clearly shows and yet since you personally don't like it, it cancels out all their other qualities. Surely someone not stuck in there ways would not act like that?

I'm willing to place a large amount of money on 'your ways' contributing the square route of kean towards those stated achievements. Given you had absolutely no involvement at all in any of them ergo 'your ways' had no influence in them. It was 'others ways' that achieved those rather monumental accomplishments as we are all nothing if not individuals. Obviously if you are Jock stein, Alf Ramsey et al then I apologise, but I'll hazard a guess it won't be required.

However just for fun and using your own definitions of everything, do I now get to claim that a poxy theorist's ways contributed towards a Scotsman winning Wimbledon? I can't wait to tell the grandkids that one!

Sorry I didn't realise men's tennis singles counts as a team game in your book.

Oh and BTW you can tell the grandkids all you want but they won't take any notice of you. Older people know nowt remember.

Oh are there rules to this debate? I wasn't informed of that, you must have forgotten to tell me.

Surely if a Scottish team winning a european cup is a great achievement for 'your ways' then I get to use one that embrace 'my ways'? 'my ways' saw a Scottish tennis player (who'd have ever thought it given our track record) not only win something an englishman hasn't for ages, but he did so with the english cheering him to victory. Shall I bring up the olympics? They embraced 'my ways', using a sport that doesn't truly embrace 'my ways' seems inappropriate given your bold statements. Are you willing to change your stance now on these forgotten rules you have introduced, given a rather logical explanation has been forth coming? Or are you stuck in your ways?

Again with the preconceptions, I never said older people know nowt, that's you making assumptions and yet again believing you are representative of all ala winning the world cup in your previous statement. If I ever say you know nowt Theno, I will mean just you not all older people, just you. I hope your ego understands that. Enjoy the match and the Lazy Scottish captain scoring.

  • Moderation Lead

Goals win games, he scores goals, thus he is invaluable, it's that simple for me.

Of course he could be better, but then again, no player is without his faults.

hat trick for Rhodes today and 20 goals for season and people still think he shouldn't play. don't know why.

we all know he is a goalscorer and not a target man like Gestede.

for all of his weaknesses he is proven goalscorer and shouldn't been sold at all.
