jim mk2 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Yes, Lowe has played in most matches this season - and look where we are and what state we are in. If you could only pick one OR the other, who would you pick? Lowe or Rhodes? Depends on the formation of the team and who else is available so it's a daft question.

arbitro Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I have been critical of him during the second half of the season particularly how work rate. Today he put a real shift in, more so when Gestede went off. He ran the channels well and chased a few out to the corners. His body language was a massive improvement on recent weeks. I was so impressed by Nahki Wells today. He made life really difficult for all our defenders and he really looked the part.
47er Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Rhodes had extra motivation today, playing against his old club in front of his family and friends. Perhaps he really does "score when he wants to"!
Stuart Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Depends on the formation of the team and who else is available so it's a daft question. No it's not. Pick any formation you like. The only caveat is that it should be designed to win football matches - otherwise what's the point?
Uddersfelt Blue Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Rhodes had extra motivation today, playing against his old club in front of his family and friends. Perhaps he really does "score when he wants to"! What a load of tosh! He scores when he can, when the players around him put him in a position to score. not when he wants! 20 goals this season playing in an average team is some going. He will do the same in the Premier League too
47er Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 It was a joke mate. Bugger off back to your own site.
Uddersfelt Blue Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 It was a joke mate. Bugger off back to your own site. Err I think you'll find that as Rovers fan this has been my site since 2001. Apologies if you were only joking mate!
jim mk2 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 No it's not. Pick any formation you like. The only caveat is that it should be designed to win football matches - otherwise what's the point? You could have 11 Jordan Rhodes in a team but it wouldn't win any matches, so yes, it's a daft question.
47er Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 He's a blue, 47er!! Fair enough. Bit thick on my part!
darrenrover Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Rhodes today showed what he can be capable of IMO. He ran his knackers off, chased balls down, harassed defenders (which resulted in his third, forget the 'gift') and most importantly bagged 3. Fair play, so he can do it when he wants!
Stuart Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 You could have 11 Jordan Rhodes in a team but it wouldn't win any matches, so yes, it's a daft question. Eh? Make up a different question, then call it daft? Ouch. Fair enough. Bit thick on my part!
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 No it's not. Pick any formation you like. The only caveat is that it should be designed to win football matches - otherwise what's the point? Ok - I'll pick Lowe - in my formation I have Sutton (94/95 version) playing alongside Shearer.

The step up to the PL is huge and Rhodes isn't ready for it by a long way

Jimmy612 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Three super finishes from Rhodes, the third particularly was a cracker. You know this as fact because ? Sorry Abbey, I shouldn't state things as fact you're right. Based on the past two years and his complete lack of ability in any aspect of football except for in the box, my suggestion is that Jordan Rhodes is a million miles behind 90% of the PL strikers that get anywhere near to scoring 20 goals every season. Fat owd hag bint
jim mk2 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Eh? Make up a different question, then call it daft? Same answer to the same question.
Stuart Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Ok - I'll pick Lowe - in my formation I have Sutton (94/95 version) playing alongside Shearer. There's no use trying to be a smartass if you are no good at it.

Fat owd hag bint And yet i imagine a good 40% of sides in the PL would take a chance on him. Rhodes, i'm afraid, is unfortunate to be playing in an era when the emphasis is on winning a midfield battle. How can you accomodate a striker who has obvious failings in areas of his game such as strength and ball retention AND also pack 5 into the midfield? Its very difficult to find a balance. However, when you have a striker who is deadly in the box, a real predator, then its worth persisting and trying to find a balance. Part of me wonders if this is why we keep seeing new personnel coming in in the wider postions. Because if you accept that to get the best out of Rhodes you need to get others up and in support of him, the wide players need to be flexible and intelligent enough to change their game as the match ebbs and flows. Sometimes they can afford to be expansive and get forward, other times they need to tuck in and made us harder to break down. If we Bowyer can find this balance then Rhodes will apply the finishing touch more often than not. But i will happily concede that Rhodes needs to do his bit too. He can't just wait for things to happen. He'd be well advised to up his work rate and realise that chasing lost causes, putting pressure on the opposition back four etc... can reap its rewards. Especially in this division. There are still a good few cloggers earning a living in this division. A touch of the Dickovs might get him an extra few goals a season and in turn get us a few more points on the board.

Jason Lowe is useless. Bowyer is tactically inept. We only win when Lowe is not in centre midfield. Cairney is wasted outwide. Williamson is too old and slow. The team should be built around one player. We have won 2 games when Lowe wasn't in midfield. This stat therefore proves that this is clearly the way forward. How am I doing?

The fact is that Lowe is the first name on the team sheet in CM, unless injured, suspended, or we are desperately short in defence, and Bowyer doesn't even think to try this as a tactical starting formation. Why the hell not? As for the Rhodes comment, what would the score have been without his goals yesterday?
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted March 16, 2014 Moderation Lead Posted March 16, 2014 Given Henley and Kane's recent performances, I advocated a return to full-back for Lowe, a shame injury cut this return short really, as Henley desperately needs taking out of the firing line, and I'm not convinced Kane is any better.
Ricky Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Three very good finishes today to put him just 4 goals behind McCormack. Ings is out injured for a while now so if Jordan goes on a good run he could still get the golden boot.

I have been thinking the same thing for weeks now. When everybody is fit and playing in their best positions Lowe should be well down the pecking order for a midfield berth. He is though, in my opinion currently our best right back.
