All that said, I don't see what the big deal is in saying a general thing like the press stirs up things, is negative, puts on the pressure, etc. We don't mean all the press, probably don't mean more than 5% tops of newstories, tv news...an extreme minority.

The players, manager and everything surrounding the team is of great interest to the public - is the press only supposed to publish the "nice" stories ? How do you expect the press to report the national team - match reports and nothing else ? The press is generally negative only when the team has had a bad result, or when it has played badly, which is only to be expected. I'm saying this so-called "pressure" is a load of nonsense and if players and managers cannot perform without this "pressure", and to use it as excuse for failure, they weren't good enough in the first place.

To take a step back on this subject the press certainly were not in the dressing room at the time of the comment. Begs the question who in the eng setup leaked this to the press as a story

If you follow Oliver Holts twitter, that's his point , the story is not the story but who leaked it. Interesting conversation between him and Stan Collymore, who's taking the moral high ground . Unfortunately the leak has not been named yet

Just followed him now and am reading Stans's tweets. I must say I like Stan, really suprises you after all the press he got as a player.

Always thought he was a nob, but he's a fairly articulate intelligent guy at times and talks alot of common sense about most football matters

From what I read last night in those tweets it seemed to be pointing to somebody who didn't play on Tuesday who had been passed story from somebody who did play, might have changed since then not looked today

I must be thick, I can't see the dots. I would be surprised if it is Townsend, he seems a very decent lad and Woy gave him his debut. Whoever it was is a scummy piece of kean, on an evening when all should be be celebrating qualification, some spiteful, spoilt little kean spits his dummy out, beyond belief. No loyalty to his manager, the team or the fans, just a self-indulgent kean, who will hopefully never get selected again, we don't need vipers in the team.

As a joke its quite funny but obviously as a tactic it didn't work as at no point during the game did I see a rocket ,Astronaut, or a monkey on the pitch. Took $IFA ages to accept goal line technology so the chances of the previous three being allowed are non existent.

The 'joke' was racist whether he meant it to be or not. The media are always going on about what an intelligent man Hodgson is and let's not forget that this is a man who played football in apartheid South Africa during the boycott. So with the evidence you either have to conclude that Hodgson is incredible naïve and not as intelligent as the media make out or Hodgson is a racist?
