The FA probably told Hodgson to apologise but I saw someone else confronted with a wild accusation and the response was not to even dignify it. That is a good response because it is somewhat outrageous to read racism into this. Probably a chance, Hodgson's used this story before as a lesson before and probably thought nothing, nothing of it.

We also asked Wayne about the rumours in this mornings press regarding Roy Hodgson’s half time team talk – “To be honest it’s really annoying that something such as this should see the light of day, all the lads know what type of guy Roy is, and to try and pin some form of label on him is absolutely ridiculous. Roy spoke to Andros straight away who took no offence whatsoever, hopefully that’s now the end of the matter”.

But we all know the press will love this keaning stuff. It wont be the end of the matter for days/weeks

I don't understand why he said it. I don't think he'd have said it if he was white, which is the crux of it.

Just really weird.

I really don't think he even thought about his colour. Shows how observant I am. I never even noticed that Townsend was black.

Well I'm a huge racist because I'm aware of the fact that Townsend is not caucasian.

I really don't think you know what he thought.

I do believe there was zero malice intended, though, such is the reaction of the named players.

Still don't know why he said it if it wasn't anything to do with the colour of his skin. Can't imagine he'd have said it to a white man. Maybe Milner.

I wouldn't discount the offence from the unnamed player being genuine though, as I'd have felt uncomfortable in that situation. But of course it could well be as some are saying and that it is stirring up trouble. I don't think anybody on here knows for sure though so it's hard to post so surely on that matter.

I just cant get my head around how it can be racist if townsend says it isnt.

Then you might want to sit back, stop posting in this thread and have another go in a couple of pages. It'll likely have been explained by then.

And good chances are he's white too in reality, I could be wrong on that but just saying.

Would it make any difference if he'd said this to Townsend or if it was to Welbeck? can one be so bold as to even refer to this?

Indeed. So what's your point.

Refer to your post #383.

On a personal basis, I know people who have 2 black parents, know people with one black, one white parent, they may look more black but they have white features, that's the kind of marriage President Obama was born out of. I think we as individuals often note these things or I know someone who has a Far East Asian parent and a white parent, this woman is not straight up a Chinese person or a White person.

So, not knowing his direct background, only statistically is Townsend a "black player". And those statistics are cold and impersonal. I see a person as a person period but if I meet a mixed-heritage type, I figure often that such kind of a black (or black white) can relate to a lot of "caucasian" things as well. There background is not removed from being white as well.

So "weird" hardly describes what Roy said...

This appalling post represents everything that is wrong with Britain in 2013.

Of course he would have said it if he was white. To think otherwise is imbecilic and, ironically, racist.

We really need to get away from this pretence of being terminally offended about everything.

It's only racist if you take it completely out of context, sure.

Just like they took Suarez's words out of context? If you have been to South America yourself, you'll know that the term 'negirito' is a friendly term that they call each other with. However, the media and FA took it out of context and deemed him guilty.

Hodgson should resign. Joke if the FA don't take any action after publically humiliating the PL's best player.

Can't imagine he'd have said it to a white man.

A: It was directed at the team.

B: The joke is about a monkey being smarter than a man and nothing to do with black or white or green or blue men.

On that note, I'd suggest the only racists are those believing that such a joke has racist connotations. Your minds, not Woy's.

But all of this pales into insignificance if you don't believe he would have said it to a caucasian. I personally don't, but that's not necessarily the case as many will argue. But I don't see how they can be so sure. Are you saying that people of mixed race don't get called monkeys?

Do you honestly think he would have said it to a white person?

What real relevance did it have to do with anything? Unless he's saying that Townsend has the intelligence of a monkey (which is not racist, simply demeaning) I don't understand why that particular joke has any relevance to the situation in hand.

I don't see how it's an appalling post. I'm merely stating that the situation is weird. Please explain how my post is racist. You appear to be the one who is working up a sweat and getting offended.

Difference being that Hodgson was referring to a frickin' monkey!

"He is of Cypriot and Jamaican descent"- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andros_Townsend

And there it is too, Townsend's ethnic makeup.

In Brazil and in Spanish, isn't there the word "Mulatto" ?? Maybe if one uses terminology, this is what we are dealing with but I don't even see that at stake here. It'd be hard to envision Roy sees the lockerroom in gradations of white and black. I just wouldn't buy it.

So why was the joke about a monkey being smarter than a man applicable here? That's why it's weird.

And questioning whether something has been said because of somebody's race does not make somebody racist. What kind of argument is that?

Oh no.

Whilst talking to Andros Townsend, a black player. Clearly a racist remark. Townsend too scared to say anything incase his World Cup spot is jeopardised.

Hodgson has to go.

Ugh.

There is NOTHING racist about the story he told. Andros is the 'monkey' because in the context of the joke he's the one trusted with all the work, whereas everyone else simply has to feed (pass to) him. I feel embarrassed that I even need to explain it. In hindsight, perhaps Hodgson should've been more aware of what he was saying, when we live in such a hypersensitive society with a white guilt complex.

Btw, I'm not saying this for your benefit because you're clearly trollin'.

How is it any different to Luis Suarez? I'm sick and tired of the usual nonsense to back up a racist. He called a black player a monkey. In the same way Suarez called Evra a negirito, neither were 'deemed' racist by the offender. However, Suarez was hung out to dry whilst given an 8 game ban. Why does this not apply to Hodgson?

In that case, why was Smalling (another mixed race player) the "man" in this scenario?

Surely if Hodgson was being racist he would've picked a white player to make his point?

See how many kinds of stupid this is now?

I've already explained it once, you're just being deliberately obtuse now.
