In that case, why was Smalling (another mixed race player) the "man" in this scenario?

Surely if Hodgson was being racist he would've picked a white player to make his point?

See how many kinds of stupid this is now?

A fair point, which i had not considered.

Still a random thing to come out with, though. Weird for a team talk, that's for sure.

There is NOTHING racist about the story he told. Andros is the 'monkey' because in the context of the joke he's the one trusted with all the work, whereas everyone else simply has to feed (pass to) him. I feel embarrassed that I even need to explain it. In hindsight, perhaps Hodgson should've been more aware of what he was saying, when we live in such a hypersensitive society with a white guilt complex.

Btw, I'm not saying this for your benefit because you're clearly trollin'.

Absolutely 100% spot on.

Sadly the redtop rags are succeeding in suckering in the small-minded folk who come out with tripe like "He should resign". (Although Jim won't see it that way).

I've already explained it once, you're just being deliberately obtuse now.

So in your opinion, by applying the same logic, Luis Suarez is not a racist?

I'd like a manager who can say - " Every time you get the ball give it to bloody Townsend ". Instead of taking a age telling jokes. No wonder half time intervals are getting longer.

I prefer a manager who can say whatever he needs to, in whatever phraseology appeals to overgrown school kids, in order to get his point across and win matches.

I also prefer snivelling rats with agendas who leak stuff to the media in order to cause problems to get as far away from the England set up as possible.

Funny things is, Aragones can come out with proper offensive stuff and get away with it, yet an innocuous comment has our crybaby nation up in arms.

Oh grow up. Anybody with half a brain cell can realise that Hodgson wasn't being racist. Its pathetic to see people getting so pedantic about this. He used the word monkey but not in relation to the colour of the guy's skin. Is it that hard to comprehend?

My god, people are halfwits.

He said give the ball to Townsend in the context of a humourous joke. He did not call Townsend a monkey due to his skin colour.

None of Townsend, Sturridge, Welbeck, Defoe or Gibbs have complained.

My logic regarding those who think it was racist ARE racist is thus: You are the ones acknowledging the difference in skin colour. Roy never did.

World Football is a cesspit of corruption. The F.A. are spineless snakes who are running the game for vested interests. Put the 2 together means I don't give a big fat feck.

I'd care more if we sent a pub team of honest blokes, who are proud to wear the shirt and prepared give everything they had to win.

My brain hurts reading some of the responses here but I should have expected it from some of the biggest trolls on here, where's sparky to complete the trifecta?

This may have a galvanising effect and the public and team will rally behind Roy now after he's been made a scapegoat here, wait is goat racist? Ok he's been the victim of a witch hunt, just wait most witches are depicted as white, that's racist as well.

I couldn't agree more Mike. The only people who can see racism here are those sad individuals who have a particularly strange view of life. It was an old joke used to illustrate that Townsend should be given the ball at every opportunity. How the politically correct mob can see this as racist is beyond me. There are no racist connotations in the joke and there were no racist connotations in the use of it to illustrate a point. I assume that monkey is another word they wish to see erased from the English language. The fact that Roy, probably the most liberal and most cosmopolitan of anyone involved in football, should be accused of racism tells us more about his accuser than the man himself. The coward who ran crying to a newspaper rather than saying something to Roy needs to have a look at himself. I'm sure many of his team mates will be having a word with him. It says much about the player that his first thought was to run to a newspaper rather than bring it up with the manager after the match.

TBH this whole national team is a farce to me. My dad served in the armed forces during the war and married a german lass.

Hence I am half Scot/German.

This whole nationalistic thing is just total @#/? to me. I love Blackburn Rovers because I live here and have had a season ticket since 1972, I love all Lancashire clubs, because that is the county I live in.

Beyond that, no, not interested.

£300k per week so called stars who will never reach the heights of Geoff hurst & Franz Beckenbauer, sorry, I'd rather watch the hairy bikers. apart from the Rovers ofc.

I see that clown Peter Herbert has waded in to the debate, demanding a full investigation instead of the FA 'sweeping it under the carpet'.

Him and Roberts should be forced to apologise for bringing the game into disrepute. Their comments and meddling are more damaging than Hodgson's team talk referring to an age old joke with zero racial connotation!

Slightly odd thing to say. You love burnley, preston and blackpool? I don't, I keaning hate them and that's because they're in Lancashire.

Can someone please explain how this is any different to the Suarez saga?

You're buzzing with this one aren't you mate, wringing the last drop of juice out of it.....you nowt better to talk about. Offended are you?

Not at all. I saw how the media reacted when Suarez was found guilty, I saw how they reacted when the John Terry incident occurred and now the Hodgson one.

Suarez incident was very similar to this in the sense that neither of them were being racist and it was taken out of context. However the fact that Suarez is not English, the general public slaughtered him. I am baffled as to why Hodgson is getting the backing from the same public that scrutinised the best player in the PL.

Hodgson deserves a touchline ban for referring to a black player as a monkey. End of.

While I don't "love" other Lancashire clubs I certainly want them to do well (especially the town clubs), except when they're playing us of course. Loyalty to the area where you live is not odd and perfectly normal - I would always want Burnley to win against a southern team for instance. Living in Blackburn in the early 1960s all the Lancashire town teams were in the old first division and we took tremendous local pride in that. Same with cricket - I'm desperate for Lancashire (and England) to do well, and I would even back Yorkshire against one of the southern counties. This "hatred" for local rivals is odd to me.
