Last night imo Rooney was very poor. Goodness only knows how poor he will be in 5 years time and still on 300kpw! If he is to to play in Brazil he must be behind and in support of Sturridge and not elbowing him out on the wing. Liverpool have Sturridge and Suarez playing right across the line and dovetailing to perfection and Hodgson would do well to try and recreate that situation.

Lots to be positive about with the 'newbies', Lallana and Sterling looked excellent and v good respectively and Shaw looked terrific, Baines must be twitching and Cole can book his holidays. (Lallana's movement reminded me a touch of Ozil). Left back position is between 3 good players. Right back is well covered too but we are still weak at CH imo and there are no stand out candidates. Henderson might have found his level as a club player but Barclay is a significantly better prospect imo. Right wing can be shared between Sterling and Townsend.

If there is to be a place for Gerrard then thats where he played which hopefully strikes off Barry and Lampard.

After that we really need Bale to discover an English ancestor somwhere.

As I've said previously we should go for broke and pick the kids (as Germany did in SA). We wont win this WC but it would surely serve us in good stead for the euros.

Stevie G has found his niche, but Denmark are limited, we slow down the play beyond belief, and look what we are, second rate. We ain't going to take Brazil by storm. Sad Woy needs to shake it up, isn't it time to go for broke? Woy isn't the man imo

Why is it Hodson's fault? He can only pick from what is available and apart from Rooney who I think is stopping Sturridge from playing in his best position there is little wrong with the tactics. My opinion is that if you must play Rooney (I think he is a busted flush) he should be played in the hole behind Sturridge who is our best striker by a mile.

England remind me very much of Rovers as they are playing dour boring football under a dour boring and uninspiring manager. England's plan for the World Cup will be exactly the same as it was for the Euros stick 10 men behind the ball and try to nick a goal from a set piece.

haven't posted here for a while because have had enough of football mainly, as its getting a bit too @#/?, too much of it on tv, must say after watching the previous two England 'performances', I turned the game off after 10 minutes last night, tuned back in on about 50 minute mark only to learn what I expected it was 0-0, sterling doesn't look ready for international football, sturridge is a class act and the only one who looks like he could make a difference at the mo, shaw did ok, nothing special, lallana looks good, as for the rest of them, pretty much I was expecting, I don't think we will get out of the group stage in brazil, if only bale was English!!!

For the record, I don't think Denmark is too shabby of a team. drew Italy in a World Cup Qualifier last year, 208 and 2011 in other qualifiers defeated Portugal. Defeated Netherlands at the 2012 Euro which was a bust for Netherlands. Results here: http://eloratings.net/Denmark.htm I'm not calling them great either, obviously, they've taken a tumble over the last year. Armenia as mentioned earlier whipped them 4-0 in Denmark.

A decent assessment. Henderson and Barclay are different players though with Barclay being the better talent.

Last night's squad

GK's; Forster Foster Hart Ruddy

Full backs; Baines, Cole G. Johnson Shaw Walker

Central defenders; Cahill Caulker Smalling

Central Midfield; Barkley Carrick Cleverley Gerrard Henderson Lampard Wilshere

Wide midfield; Milner Oxlade-Chamberlain Sterling Townsend Lallana

Striker; Defoe Lambert Rodriguez Rooney Sturridge Welbeck

Woy has to pick 23. Jagielka needs adding back in. If Phil Jones and Andy Carroll are in the frame (I think they should be) 10 need to go.

My bet at losing out are; Ruddy, Shaw, Caulker, Cleverley, Lampard, Wilshere, Defoe.

Then pick 3 to go between this lot; Jones, Smalling, Carrick, Townsend, Lambert, Carroll, Rodriguez, Milner.

Edit; can't fix the bold.

That's exactly what we said last night...uninspiring. I went off to watch some paint dry instead.

Still class

Not sure I know what Petr Cech was doing helping that shot into the net but they do say 'form is temporary, class is permanent' don't they? We did have the best of him but nice to see that he is still plying his trade in the Turkish Super League and on the International stage. Such a pity that we can't afford to sign similar quality now that we are back where we naturally belong. The likes of lesser talents Conway, Taylor, Marshall, Willamson will just have to do for as long as we have a club. Still I guess the our know nowt boo boys can concentrate their efforts fully on Jason Lowe now eh?

'Keane' and 'Kean'. That little difference might count for a lot ;)

Shaw and Wilshire will go to Brazil, no doubt. I have to Say the team looks good. Much better than a year ago. Very good balance. To make the quarters would be a good performance.

This would be my 23 man squad for the World Cup. Not that I think this will be the squad as Hodgson certainly has his favourites who seem to be un-droppable.

Hart, Foster, Robinson

G.Johnson, Walker, Lescott, Terry, Cahill, Jones, Cole, Baines

A.Johnson, Milner, Sterling, Gerrard, Lampard, Oxlade-Chamberlin, Wilshere (If not fit then Henderson), Townsend

Agbonlahor, Rooney, Hooper, Sturridge

At least 7 of them need not even pack a bag for my squad. You need to bin off a few tired old has beens who have had their chance and go for youth, exuberance and the right attitude. How come no place for Barclay, Shaw or Lallana? As I've said before we haven't a cat in hells chance of winning this year so we should be bringing in the new kids to blood them in preperation for the euro's in two years time.

Shaw isn't as good as Cole or Baines at the moment in my opinion. Barkley started the season well but his form seems to have took a dip of late probably due to tiredness in what is his first full premier league season. And I haven't picked Lallana because I don't think he is that as good as the other midfielders that I have picked he's just the flavour of the week after a good 30 minutes against Denmark. I'd like to have a team with the majority of players coming from England's top clubs as they have that winning mentality ingrained in them that others don't. Also you can't just take kids and write off the World Cup of I didn't think we will win it but you have to give it a go. If you want to experiment in a tournament and give youngsters a chance do it in Euro 2016 in preparation for the 2018 World Cup.

Much better than somersets attempt imo. :tu:

Terry, Lescott, Hooper, and Agbonlahor are out there suggestions.

I understand the logic in taking the youngsters but I think Shaw is just too young. Woy knows Ashley Cole and he is a great defender. Sometimes experience helps. He has hardly played since Christmas so should be well rested too. I don't know if Wilshere's injury hurts or helps him. He should be back in early May. Is that enough time?

If Jones and/or Smalling goes you could lose Walker as they can both play right back therefore opening up an extra midfield spot.

:!:

Have you been in a coma for the last decade or so somerset? That is something they patently leave on the dressing room peg when they take the 3 Lions shirt off it.

The world cup is for specialist players playing in the positions that the managers tactics dictate. Rasmsey taught us that surely? Utility players in general wont do. They are invaluable to a club NOT to an international team where we can take 2 specialists for every position. If we take one it's Jones cos he can do a job in defence AND deep midfield. Smalling as far as I see is fairly weak and at best a nearly man.

So will it improve taking players from Southampton and Everton, of course it won't because they don't have that winning mentality and they aren't use playing in important matches. You take the best players from the best clubs as they are playing for those clubs for a reason they are the best, take Spain as an example the majority of their players come from Barca and Real and the bulk of the German squad will come from Dortmund and Bayern.
