Welcome to Britain 2013. Where honest football fans have to be herded around like sheep, and CCTV watches our every move, for the sake of a small minority. It's all for our own good, really! Or so they'd like us to believe.

The whole derby day experience is a total load of keans...

From posturing young lads singing infantile songs, the total Police lock down and overkill, the boring pre match build up and usual hype by the local rags and an away end not fit to have a dump in.

Lost a lot of interest.

Absolutely, it's a young lads trip now, no disrespect to us in exciting middle age, 70 is the new 50 blah blah, but I couldn't take my 13 year old. One of the seemingly few who doesn't like swearing! The thought of being in that rats arse of a space below something that should have been condemned in the 70's makes the lure of the sofa all the more enticing.

Fair play to the hardy 2,000 that endure the trip (chance for Steve Coogan special), at least there might be a bit of breathing space and one urinal per 1,000, chance of avoiding the sink awaits.

I am going again as I feel quite fortunate to be going via a corporate line.

I don't agree with the operation put in place to police it the tactics are draconian, granted there are clowns on both sides but is there really a disorder issue to warrant this herding of away fans ? It doesn't happen at other venues with bigger support in place ie, utd/city, rangers v celtic and spurs v arsenal.

It is sad that in this day and age such a police operation is in place.

How times change eh Gordon? I remember 'siding' with you on the messageboard in the week leading up to the game you mention. At the time it looked like we would not sell all our tickets. I remember stating that the "empty seats would stand out like rotten teeth" and cause embarassment to the club. I seem to remember you agreed.

It appears that your memory is better than mine in this instance I'm afraid ES. Must admit whilst the coach there was fun for a 'one off' the journey home was both endless and tedious ..... just imagine how it would have felt if we had lost! The fact that it took way over a working day to complete is absolutely ludicrous.

A) ticket price

no it wouldnt put me off although it is expensive

transport price

Bit of a @#/? take having to pay for enforced travel. Especially when I can catch the bus for a couple of quid.

C) Combo of A & B

It would not stop me. I have been the last 4 derby games at the turd.

D) enforced transport

This has stopped me this time. It is a disgrace. You spend hours pretty much in police custody. Ruins any enjoyment of thr day.

E) over crowding at Turf Moor

It is pretty grim. Never experienced congestion so bad underneath a stand. Pretty dangerous.

F) tv coverage

not fussed. Benefits me this time as ill be watching.

Thing is, if the police action protects one innocent person from being hurt then it is completely worth it.

Let the scrotes fight themselves into the ground, but if innocent members of the general public are at risk of being caught up in it, then I couldn't care less how many officers it takes.

it should be our choice if we want to take the risk of making our own way there and back, the police escorted coaches will always be there for those not wanting to take the risk.

It seems strange to me to cut short a wedding do so you can be shunted around East Lancs all day for a football match, especially when the game is on TV.

Not sure what the game being on TV has to do with supporting the team?!

What about the folks not interested in football, attempting to go about their business, being confronted by marauding gangs of half-wits. At least they will be spared being victims of collateral damage.

It's like saying the North Korean regime are right if it stops one person ever seeing the Xfactor

Haha ...Brilliant! Although you do make a good case for Kim Jong-Un's regime.

Seriously, I just won't put up with it. I used to work in Burnley and their fans felt the same way.Lots of them wouldn't go to Ewood for the same (police state reason).

I often wondered whether the real reason for this OTT, social control stuff was to just give the police an opportunity to practice tactics..

.What other group in society would be expected to accept this?

Maybe some guy high up in the police would be able to tell me why I'm wrong on this but in my opinion it comes down to too much emphasis being placed on prevention instead of reaction as a means to combat trouble. I say someone would tell me I'm wrong because that seems to be the standard way of operating for the police and similar government organisations, prevention as opposed to reaction, so you'd assume there's a good reason for it. But in this case to me it basically forces on thousands of people, draconian, intrusive measures as a low-risk prevention measure as opposed to high-risk reacting to trouble that may be caused by tens or at most 1-200 if few prevention measures are in place.

Few examples: The huge coach detours. If the coaches went by the most direct and obvious route from Ewood to Turf Moor, some Burnley hooligans might congregate in the town centre and throw stuff at them, requiring the police to confront them and arrest some of them. But thousands would be spared lengthy pre-match inconvenience. If fans were allowed to travel by any means, a small number on both sides might contrive to meet each other requiring police to monitor, escort and intercept those groups. But thousands would be spared unnecessary travel, time, petrol etc useage. If away fans were kept in after for 15-30 minutes instead of 45+ then police would be required to clear small groups congregating outside the away end, and again arrest if necessary. But thousands of people could get home earlier to meet possibly other important commitments.

Seems to me its an approach of laziness and almost cowardliness from police. Rather than doing some proper police work and earning their money, they take the approach of removing the rights of thousands of people so there's no chance of any possible conflict arising. And then you get about a thousand bobbies stood around doing nothing all day while fans are treated like cattle.

..... No thanks .... I'll take the extra half-hour sightseeing detour if it means there is less chance of a house brick smashing into my ten year old son.

Two hour journey from York to Blackburn (ironically passing through Burnley) + travelling time between Ewood/Turd moor and back + £38(!) for a ticket to get treated like a criminal...

I've just checked and I'd have to leave the house at 6.30, but god knows what time I'd get back.

Enforced transport.

I live in skipton and would have to drive right past burnley around 3 hours before kickoff to get the bus. Just stupid. Don't know what time I would get home either. It is gut wrenching not to go but this travel thing needs to stop. Drop the transport arrangements and would be there like a shot.
