tomphil Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I think we should try and get Nigel Pearson in, would keep a few players on their toes... Just the kind of guy we need, a new voice and ideas, authority and a bit of presence and a decent track record. Just the kind of guy they'll do everything to avoid.

wolfie Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Venkys v Pearson, last man standing wins, no iron bars allowed..

LewisF Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Then again he's a fruitcake as well. What position does his son play, other than 3 and in? If a fruitcake can get us out of this mess and potentially into the PL, I'd be prepared to be managed by a fruitcake.

martonrover Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Pearson would be great but forget it. Venky's only want gormless subservients in managerial positions at Rovers.
LewisF Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Pearson would be great but forget it. Venky's only want gormless subservients in managerial positions at Rovers. Unfortunately that's true. They really do not have the slightest clue how to run a football club.

Good shout, sounds like he has his head screwed on. He is only 23. Time is on his side if as Bowyer says he is experieincing continuous professional development.
den Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 "He senses danger". Blimey, he's a professional footballer, that's the least any of them should have.
Backroom Tom Posted July 8, 2015 Backroom Posted July 8, 2015 Didn't see this article coming... http://mobile.rovers.co.uk//news/article/jason-lowe-2531781.aspx He looks broader, like a bit of a unit There
tomphil Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Didn't see this article coming... http://mobile.rovers.co.uk//news/article/jason-lowe-2531781.aspx He's the new Robbie Savage according to one on here though so it's great news
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted July 8, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted July 8, 2015 He's no world beater, but he's nowhere near as bad as people suggest. He's got potential, and the ability to get around the pitch. This should be harnessed into making more forward runs, as he's shown with that rocket against Middlesbrough he CAN shoot. But, yeah, let's castigate him, that's a better approach.
Rover_Shaun Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Now and again I make a luck shot at Darts. Doesn't make me the next Barney
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted July 8, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted July 8, 2015 Now and again I make a luck shot at Darts. Doesn't make me the next Barney I'm simply saying that when he DOES get forward he can do it. I just wish our centre mids (to borrow another poster's phrase) didn't need a passport to go beyond the halfway line!
Backroom Mike E Posted July 8, 2015 Backroom Posted July 8, 2015 Now and again I make a luck shot at Darts. Doesn't make me the next Barney Calling it a luck shot would be more valid if he got forward and shot a lot without scoring. Fact is he doesn't shoot much because he's rarely within shooting range (unless you're Charlie Adam or Xabi Alonso). Whether it'd get him scoring or not, it'd be worth having him move forward more while someone who actually tackles sits back. Just makes sense with his engine! I'm thinking more of a Steven Reid-type than a Robbie Savage.
G Somerset Rover Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I remember him cracking the post against Yeovil at home with a 25-30 yard drive too. He's clearly been under orders not to venture too far forward. GB needs to release the reins on at least one of our central midfielders for next season, that's for sure.
tomphil Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Nice to see Kevin Gallagher in his column highlighting yet again we sit too deep and the gap between midfield and strikers is too wide. Something he and numerous other football people regularly commented on last season. I wonder if any of the pundits or reporters or commentators have actually ever posed the question to Bowyer as to why he insists playing this way ?

For the midfield to get forward - especially away from home - the front man has to be able to run the flanks and hold the ball up until they get the support. Midfielders can't be everywhere.

Midfielders can't be everywhere. I see where your going with that but I don't think he'd alter the style even if he did the personnel. Our midfield as it is could play a bit higher than it does and try more forward passes to utilise Rhodes strengths, or give and go. Anyhow he could play 2 banks of 4 away and get the strikers a bit deeper to defend as a whole unit, Hughes style then look to hit on the break down the wings but we just hoof it anyway.

Ideally we'd play five men in midfield giving us more flexibility.
tomphil Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Ideally we'd play five men in midfield giving us more flexibility. True especially away from home against the better sides, maybe even at home to them. He's got to show some balls and put results first.

All the best teams I have seen down here over the past few years have played with high intensity and pressed the ball all over the park. We're not only poor and without method when we have the ball we're the same without it.
JBiz Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 We're not only poor and without method when we have the ball we're the same without it. How on earth can you amass 137 points in two seasons if we are consistently poor with and without the ball?
