Kilgallon should be first choice CB no doubt, both Duffy and Hanley play better with him and have a much more assured performance.

The Hanley/Duffy partnership yesterday was certainly an improvement on last season (and the Wigan friendly), but it has to be Killa for me, he's always shown enough when he's played. I also feel a defender's prime is about 2 years later than a midfielder or forward, they're still fit yet have that experience too. Killa is about that age now.

I guess so, I honestly thought Killa was older than that.

The more these two play together though, the better they will get.

Stuart - just because a wage ain't on the pitch, it's not wasted! Killa is a cracking backup if we are going with those two and I'll be happy if they perform like yesterday because they played solidly! Also, it'd be more fun discussing this stuff if you didn't have to constantly bring everything back to the simple sentiment "bowyer a not good enough" or "he picks his mates"..

Whilst it's very early days, Guthrie looks an inspired signing though from the club in the circumstances, especially considering age and prime. On yesterday's display I'd play Evans next to Guthrie in the 4231. It will take a few games till he's at his best but he's got a few of the things we've lacked in midfield.

Knowing the bounce of the past few seasons, he'll be out for an operation mid September.

Conjecture. If anything, those two started getting worse and worse when played together over the course of last season until injuries kept them both out. Nothing over the last two years has suggested that we will improve defensively this season under Bowyer. Nothing at all.

The only argument for Bowyer improving this season is that he's got another year of experience under his belt. Didn't help him rectify any errors last season so I'm hardly hopeful this time around.

As for Guthrie, he looks an improvement on what we've got but certainly unfit and a little error prone at the moment. Hoping he continues to improve with fitness and that his injury problems don't continue to plague him. I don't think he's a big improvement but an improvement nonetheless.

I'm still concerned as for the fitness of the players though. Some looked a little sluggish yesterday and seems they've all been hitting the gym again. Heard this before about Bowyer's coaching team. Focus on strength training, not on aerobic (from a good source). Explains why the players get stronger but not quicker, and explains the niggling injuries we've had for the last few years.

Oh yeah let's think on before we keep writing all these nasty things about Bowyer on these message boards.

He must come on here late at night and cry himself to sleep.

Also, it says "fans should not be so QUICK to..." Bowyer hasn't been abused in near 3 years, despite under performing for the majority. He's got it easy.

Does Bowyer get abuse at the ground? I was under the impression he gets a pretty easy ride at Ewood regardless of how we're performing.

I hope not, because what Martin Ling went through sounds horrific. I think Rovers fans are generally very decent.

What's an easy ride? Should he get abuse?

Bit of an overeaction. it was a joke, hence that yellow thing. Touched a nerve there mustard? :)

Certainly am Stuart. Very encouraged by today's performance. I just hadn't realised that as well as messing up FFP the Football League had also introduced a new rule whereby you can push the ball in the net with your hand. :(

Very encouraged by yesterday's performance? Blimey Parson, Wolves played poorly and had an off day Imo and it was still good enough to beat us thanks to our usual defensive frailties and lack of punch going forward due to the manager playing the wrong formation. Who we are going to be good enough to beat under this manager I really don't know.

You did say 'think on' in a manner that suggested some Rovers fans abuse/would be inclined to abuse Bowyer. I'm sure there is a minority (like the ones who sent his daughter messages) but I'd like to think it is just that.

Bowyer shouldn't get abused. Not beyond the occasional boos after a poor performance anyways. However, he also shouldn't get a job for life on the back of being a nice chap. It's a results business, whilst abuse is unacceptable, I think Bowyer's performance over that last 2 years warrants at least questions being asked as to whether he is up to the job. Forgetting the odd conspiracy, I'd say most of the criticisms aimed at Bowyer have been justified.

An easy ride is the fans not making much angry noise even when the team is playing poorly and/or failing to capitalise on periods of domination and then conceding a goal, as we are accustomed to seeing under GB. I certainly think he gets an easier time of it than he would at a lot of other clubs in the league. Whether that's a good or a bad thing is up for debate. It probably doesn't matter much either way, though, as Bowyer does not seem to have the ability to learn from what happens on the pitch and would not change anything even if the crowd were showing their unhappiness.

Bowyer has change his formation and style of play from last season.

He also swap Marshall and Delfouneso positions yesterday after 35 ish mins and that lend to our goal.

Plus in the 1st 25 mins yesterday our new formation/style of play worked well yesterday. But we are trying to play differently to last season but this will take time to implement this.

I'm sure I read on here that this happened organically, and in the second half Delfy went back to the wing, as assumedly he had been ordered to do by Bowyer at half time?

What led to our goal chaddy was a bigggggg deflection and then their keeper palming an easy save into his own net.

We played football for less than half an hour and then resorted to sitting back and lumping it. Second half Marshall was back behind the striker, doing sweet F all again but Bowyer didn't change it this time did he? No sub til after 70th min either...

It will take time yes, time for the players to unlearn the dreadful, wasteful hoofball that has become synonymous with Gary Bowyer. The players we have are of decent quality, the manager's tactics are not. Sometimes the players manage to escape the confines of whatever Bowyer sets up for them to do, play with freedom and they actually look like good players. Then we sit back and absorb pressure, just like Bowyer wants, and it all goes wrong. Same old, same old.

Bowyer swapped Marshall and Delfouneso position as I watched him giving the instructions to the players

And yet switched it back at half time?

Yep...

Chaddy, if you're going to praise Bowyer for making the change that saw an improvement in performance, you should also criticism him for then changing it back to something that wasn't working.

Be consistent.

Why do people still refer to Bowyer as a manager? He is a nothing but a coach. He is has no tactical brain, he is not smart enough to out smart opposition managers , and he cannot motivate. He has no personality on the side lines, neither in an interview. If you believe a player has been poor after 30 or 40 mins in the 1st half, then take him off. Don't dilly dally until 10 or 15 mins remain, before you decide to make a change. How can you make a substitution every game with 75 mins on the clock as an example , it makes no sense, nor does it give that player much time to have an impact on the game.

Bowyer wanted to get Marshall playing through balls to Rhodes and Delfouneso to used his pace out wide against their left back IMO

I will admit that I thought Delfouneso should have come off around the 60 ins cos he seemed to drop some confidence. also disappointed that O'Sullivan wasn't on the bench.

Are you surprised O Sullivan wasn't on the bench Chaddy? Do you actually think he, or the likes of Nyambe or Tomlinson will get much playing time?

I would have started with O'Sullivan yesterday I said in the match thread before the game

if Henley is poor for the next few games then I hope that he would be replace by Nyambe.

Tomlinson has played well pre season.

I joked last week that Tomlinson would be dropped after scoring and so it came to pass. How dare he pass the ball forward, rattle the opposition, get into the opposition half and score a goal.

Who does he think he is? A midfielder?

The situation with O Sullivan is beyond a joke Imo. The poor lad is what, 23, seems to have done well everywhere else he's been but still can't get a proper chance here. Play him. If he's not good enough, move him on.

Good luck getting Lowe out of the team.
