tomphil Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 We mentioned this last season about having someone more experienced and maybe a bit more hardline along side him. In Short despite what he looks like or how he played he to is a nice, easy going quite softly spoken guy, very similar to Bowyer. A new voice and new ideas are needed and someone to be a bit of a eye ball to eye ball type with the players.
mustard Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Everything about the man screams of complacency. This resonates throughout the squad/staff.

It's normally the coach who does the softly softly stuff, and the manager does the hairdryer act.

Not always, the good cop bad cop can work either way. There's been some right rough house coaches knocking about down the years. In the modern world of the thinking mans manager there needs to be a few more. Trouble is for someone like Bowyer then unless he knows the person really well it would be far too easy for someone to undermine him.
patrickvalery Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Everything about the man screams of complacency. This resonates throughout the squad/staff. I don't think that's fair. It might not be happening for him and that's bad enough. But he doesn't come across as a man who takes the job lightly. It's the little things. If we could become better at defending and attacking set pieces we'd be worth another ten points a season. And that would, in the past two seasons, turn us from a mid table to a play off side. I'd love him to be able to implement that. If nothing else because it doesn't sit easily with me when I hear people make references to him being similar to Kean or suggestions that he's on the take. If he comes up short that's one thing but I find it hard to believe he's a wrong-un.
Baz Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Anyone remeber the game City got promoted at Ewood, we absolutely pummelled them for an hour, hit the post / bar 3 or 4 times, then got an unlucky own goal and lost it through city counter-attacking? After that game, Souness locked the dressing room door and tore strips off the side for 30 minutes for capitulating. That is what this squad needs - desire to win.

So do I but when I his India aimed interviews all the time I 'm not sure what else to conclude other than self preservation.

I remember Wendy James on RR waiting to interview Souey when he finally emerged from the dressing room and saying he was still visibly shaking with rage. It's not just Bowyer though it's the way the game is in general these days, everything geared for the mamby pamby players, young ones growing up through academies and being even more pampered. The whole thing is getting so stale in the top two divisions it's sickeningly sterile and very boring. Another reason Souness refused to get back into management. Anybody working in football today with gonads as big as Soueys the authorities would have him castrated !
LDRover Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I remember Wendy James on RR waiting to interview Souey when he finally emerged from the dressing room and saying he was still visibly shaking with rage. Ah, so that's where she ended up after Transvision Vamp...
Riverside67 Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Three years into the job Same game plan Same doesn't know best team Same tinkering Same level of intensity Same playerst Same immobile midfield Same silly defensive mistakes Same two goals against Same outcome Same post match interview drivel Have I missed something ..........................someone once gave a definition of madness............................he might have known a thing or two Plainly our Manager thinks he knows better
G Somerset Rover Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 That interview last night was infuriating. No accountability whatsoever from the manager, constant rambling and contradictions galore. Unless I misunderstood, near the start of the interview he said we had to rotate so many players because of the 'numbers' we've got. Well don't forget Gary it was only last week that you were telling anyone who would listen we had the smallest squad in the division!
Kamy100 Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Sometimes Gary does not help himself. 9 changes was far too many in my opinion and surely he must have realised that a loss would put him under a lot of pressure? Huddersfield suddenly becomes a huge game, if we lose that then I can really see things getting ugly at the Cardiff game especially if we lose that one as well. I don’t believe that the owners will sack him at this stage even if we lose the next few games but I can see a scenario of him walking if the fans turn on him on mass. The problem is that if Gary goes then who do we get in? I doubt that any proven manager would want to join Rovers under the current conditions (embargo, working with Venky’s and completely dysfunctional executive structure) so then we would either end up with a “desperado” manager or they take a punt on a up and coming manager from the lower leagues.
DanielMB Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I have been very patient with GB but that patience is beginning to fade

The fact is there will never be an 'en masse' moment for our gaz, as he seems oblivious to his many failings as a manager.
oldjamfan1 Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 He has no idea how to select and organise a team. Move him into a different role and offer some kind of bonus to a proper manager. Hell, even a young League One manager who can set up our forward thinking players in the right way. There must be an ex pro who is trying to get into a club. Something. Maybe not League 1 but Gareth Ainsworth is a local lad and he has impressed me.
Coatbridge rover Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Two home defeats is not good, short memories as I thought on sat we were not too bad just poor officials.I missed the game last night and luckily was in a snakebite coma. Calling for the managers head after two games is very poor, but sugar spoon fed supporters as Gordon calls you will throw the dummy out the pram. Some clubs do not take the milk cup serious others do,like Mr Bowyer said he looked at squad players,P's how did O,Sullivan play.

Brilliant post. That day we had all the skill and talent but no heart or desire. I think it was the end of Christian Daily at Rovers.
Coatbridge rover Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I believe everyone starts the new season with a clean slate, bumley lost to port vale with 7 off the team that played at Leeds,Dyche out.
Backroom Madon Posted August 12, 2015 Backroom Posted August 12, 2015 I have backed Bowyer through thick and thin but the tide is turning. Lose on Saturday and that could well be game over as far as I'm concerned.
