And you really think promotion this season would eclipse winning the prem?

Or have you been on the mulled wine?

I think it would be a bigger achievement given the state of the club and squad.

Promotion for Rovers this season could not be put down to anything but Bowyer and the sheer determination of this very average squad.

94/95 we had some of the best players in the country playing for us and one of the best managers and assistant managers in the business. You might think I'm stupid (fair enough) but, being completely objective, I would be more impressed with promotion this season than winning the league, although not by much. There is certainly a massive difference in expectation levels.

Don't get me wrong winning the league was amazing for our club but it was helped by other external factors.

Perhaps I should put it that I think Bowyer winning promotion this season would be a bigger achievement at Rovers than Kenny winning the league in 94/95.

Akin to winning promotion in 88/89 say.

the club was geared up for and actually trying to win the league

this season the club has done jack sh8t to suggest promotion was a realistic aim. therefore if Bowyer somehow manages to turn water into wine whilst being hindered by the assortment of numpties and emptyheads above him he will have done amazingly well

I think that was what Stuart was alluding to

'Bout it BnWA. :tu:

I think you make an interesting case. It is hardly as if the foundations were laid for a promotion push.He will have done it with one arm tied behind his back.

I think it's like comparing winning a professorship to winning a nobel prize. Both are very good achievements but different leagues.

For example Owen Coyle did it with Burnley, so is that a bigger achievement than winning the prem?M

Maybe we could set an essay question:

A bright child from a professional family goes to Eton and achieves 10 A*'s

Another child in care of the local authority has special educational needs. He goes to a school that is placed in Special Measures, yet manages to achieve 4 C's

Which is the bigger achievement? Discuss.in relation to the achievements of Gary Bowyer and Kenny Dalglish at Blackburn Rovers.

It's not an awful analogy but if you think promotion to the PL (for any team) is equivalent to getting 4 C's you should think again. More like 5 A*s. Plus the rich kid had access to the best personal tutors and actually flunked his final exam, only to get the necessary marks after a recount.

By my grading, I would think that the child in care, the one got his education from the local library, was deserving of more praise than the rich kid. I'd certainly be more impressed.

Don't worry, I meant the 4 C's to be seen as a very big achievement-especially in that context.

The Premier League Championship may be the highest honour in the land, but Kenny did have the Etonian equivalent of support and advantage.

Promotion maybe a lesser honour but- I agree with you- a huge achievement in the Venky/ post Shebby Singh, Shelfman "special measures" context..

Bowyer is tyhe main reason that I decided to renew, but I do not kid myself that he has had promotion or bust backing!

I listened to Bowyer for a couple of minutes on the radio last night. He has one of those boring drone like voices like Milliband that makes me want to switch over or turn the radio off. His motivating skills must be quiet and unassuming (often the best) as he bores the hell out of me.

Sir Alf Ramsey and Bob Paisley didn't do so badly did they?

As long as the team keeps winning he could screech like a banshee in every interview for all I cared.

Actually you see it a lot in teaching. there are many different styles of motivating and some teachers shout a lot whilst others are very quietly spoken. Both types can get results. It's knowing how to get the kids on your side in the first place. Once they are there it doesn't matter what you do, you have them. Bowyer's interview style is poor and if he were working in a different kind of job then he might need to work on it, but as it is, he is obviously getting through to the people who matter, the players, so I'm not complaining.

I will take boring and monotone right now in exchange for some stability and dignity. Bowyer must delivery consistency now I accept.

That style contrasts greatly with not boring and ridiculous from both Kean and Singh.,,,,,,,,,,,look where they took us.

Down nearly 40 places in league standings and nearly a double relegation.

Seem like he's trudging around the world again as the Rao's have clicked their grubby fingers.

Why do you need to fly thousands of miles to be told the cupboard is bare and you have to sell to buy then claim you won't sell your ONLY saleable asset? in fact the only player we have who's worth a dime.

madness and still tarnishes his credibility in my eyes

How about they fly here for a change

In mid Winter with the possibility of low flying snowballs? The trauma of their last royal visit has probably scarred them for the rest of their (hopefully) miserable lives.

I think I've refrained from commenting on Bowyer so far. After today that's it for me, if we have any thought of promotion we need a new manager.

Bowyer is devoid of ideas, inspiration and tactics. He seems a very decent guy but at best he's an average manager. Our first priority has to be a new manager who can inspire and motivate the team.

This is not a Bowyer out post. Only my view we will go nowhere with him in charge. Every game I've seen this season has been identical, we lack variation, inspiration, creativity, there is just nothing there and it starts and finishes with the manager.

The owners have said they want promotion, are you saying you don't want promotion?
