Rover_Shaun Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 The team are displaying expected levels of motivation. Scraping the minimum is hardly worthy of praise. People are blinded by the abjectness of what went on previously but Bowyer is no motivational collossus. Being average is no reason to put the flag up no matter what went before. Seens some fans expectations and ambitions haven't just been crushed by Venkys but totally removed. Also Bowyer using the past as an excuse for him being as average as average can be, and expecting thanks and praise for it, is very worrying and does not bode well for the future. This is the first time most fans are doubting him and it is getting to him already. He may totally unravel before the season ends.

Stuart Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Bowyer's negativity in the second half on Boxing Day, and his apparent bloody-mindedness in the first half today mean that we are not going to have to get 3 unlikely points from somewhere. Let's hope it's against Leeds on New Year's Day. 2013 is a year I'll be glad to see the back of as a Rovers fan. Let's hope it's better in 2014!

They do say bad luck comes in three's so we are due a good year! Roll on 2014
FGS5635 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Today wasnt down to tactics, formations, selections, it was just down to conceding 3 awful goals due to individual mistakes. Cant blame bowyer for everything...that 1st half is on the gk and back 4
arbitro Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 The shape we finished with today was the shape we started with against Sheff W which got badly criticised. Just can't win as a manager. My personal feeling is that GB won't get sacked as he knows the owners on a personal level. He visits them in India and speaks to Mrs D on the phone fairly regularly apparently. This is what Kean did, he didn't get sacked. Appleton and Berg didn't do this and they got sacked. Gestede played high up today. Against Wednesday he played in the hole. It was another baffling decision from Bowyer and one that can't be blamed on inexperience.
Riverside67 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Bowyer is on a road to nowhere this season after that perforamnce today. The first half antics were comical. As bad as anything under Kean interms of lack of professionalism. The real bad one for me was the first one with the defence all over the plave and no desire to be first to the ball. Rank Amateurism in the first half should not be masked by the secoind half, The second half formation and line up is not how we start games. We alwasy go one up front and play forward balls at half pace. We immediately let the opposition have the initiative. Lowe and WIlliamson cannot start together, both are too simialr and have no pace. We have talked about cutting out inidividuak errors for some time and so has Bowyer. Maybe he cannot do it. An experienced man like Maclaren has sorted Derby in double quick time. He knows his best 11 and he has round pegs in round holes. We are still searching. Bowyer used the words unacceptable on the Radio. Too much of it continues at the moment and the real test now is whether is has the ability to sort it. Play offs looks a pipe dream to me
Rover_Shaun Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Not the first time 'Gaz' has said things have been unacceptable. It's already sounding hollow.

Stuart Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I don't know what happened to you but get over yourself. I think some fans still want there to be a Steve Kean figure just so they can hate someone.Get over myself? How about this.1) Bowyer had boos from a section of the crowd after a very negative second half on Thursday, sacrificing the 3 points. 2) Bowyer picked the same negative team and was booed off at HT, 3-0 down. 3) I didn't boo on either occasion. I'm only the messenger. I don't think Bowyer is, nor want him to be, a Steve Kean type hate figure. What did you think of the performances in both the halves I mention? How would you explain his reasoning for sticking with a formula that didn't and doesn't work?

blondie Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 We have got to forget that this is better than the last 3 years. This is timid ,insipid football, you only win if you are positive.Bowyer needs to grasp the nettle and go for it.No more safety first, give the crowd positivity and reap the rewards
Majiball Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 http://www.rovers.co.uk/news/article/we-beat-ourselves-1260940.aspx
FGS5635 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 http://www.rovers.co.uk/news/article/we-beat-ourselves-1260940.aspx Cant argue with any of that. Good fair assesment I'd say Bowyers only mistake this season is not bringing a good keeper in on loan. Hard to imagine where we would be in this league but for goalkeeping errors
Stuart Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 You say you're only the messenger but for who? I assume someone has told you that Bowyer is sticking with the same team as a two-fingered salute to the fans. Why say it with 100% conviction that it's true if you're only a messenger? In your haste to have a pop at me (again) you seem to have not actually read the whole sentence. Here it is again (first para) to save you a could have mouse clicks. The rest of it I thought was fairly balanced. Bowyer simply MUST learn from today. It seems to me that he started with the same team that finished on Wednesday as a two-fingered salute to the handful who booed at full time. Yet he was more positive in his approach. This completely backfired as Lowe and Williamson simply do not have the pace to get back when Birmingham broke. Add to this individual mistakes and a disgraceful shove by our supposed leader, Dann, on the hapless Eastwood who failed to deal adequately with the original backpass, and it was a first half to forget. Pathetic from a captain when we have two very green keepers holding fort for is. I can only hope that Bowyer has learned from this - although his Radio Rovers interview comment that the spirit in the dressing room was high at half time (or words to that effect) suggests that he is unlikely to. To his credit though, he did change it and his substitutions had a really positive effect in the second half. It was actually quite enjoyable and the fans played their part creating a great second half atmosphere in response. BUT... It is so, so frustrating to see us throw the kitchen sink at it in search of a point when a similar approach three days ago would have seen us with 3 points instead of one - with some momentum going into this game. I'm not suggesting that we send the keeper up every game but just a similar amount of desire and want to get forward in search of a winner. Bowyer himself said today, on Radio Rovers, that although we did well in the second half, that "it's all about the 3 points". If that were true, there would have been no booing whatsoever against Wednesday. Amazingly, we are not yet out of the play-off frame so we must build on the second half today. A like you Tom, others aren't so keen but I do, you are a decent poster and were a good mod (IMO), so if having digs at me gets you posting then I'll take that.
Rover_Shaun Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 'Most fans are doubting him' Not me, or the majority! Get a grip! You can remain blind if you want but just a few pages here ( Rovers fans collective mind in a microcosm) shows plenty of doubts over Bowyer. You and I are not the best impartial judges seeing as I never rated him and you want his babies
Rover_Shaun Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 http://www.rovers.co.uk/news/article/we-beat-ourselves-1260940.aspxBlah blah blah. You can talk all you want Bowyer but you have said all this bull before. It may placate the more maliable but until you actually tackle the problems, you have bemoaned for months, your words are hollow and meaningless.WHEN will we see your coaching methods affect the unacceptable mistakes? You even thought we deserved something when Brighton bummed us. Very Keanesque, which reflects rather badly on you. I'm not holding my breath.
Roverthechimp Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Blaming the fans? I actually like Bowyer and in interviews he comes across as controlled and assured. But he needs time that we don't have. He may well be the right man at the wrong time. Not blaming the fans at all - merely commenting on the sentiments being expressed.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted December 29, 2013 Moderation Lead Posted December 29, 2013 He just needs to be more ambitious.

I'm not holding my breath. Play fair - how many clean sheets have we had this season? He just needs to be more ambitious. I thought all he had to do was play Rochina and then everything would be be peachy... (not directed specifically at you K-Hod but i thought you set me up nicely)
FGS5635 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 We have a very frustrated/angry fanbase and after all the kean we have had the past 3 years that frustraion/anger wont go away and fans cant help but vent. This month the vent is at bowyer. Couple of wins and the vent will move back to lowe or another
darrenrover Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Which player in Rovers squad would anyone fear playing against? When you hear the team announced prior to the game is there any one player that you'd be pleased were included or sigh if excluded?
Shabani Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 My only criticism of Bowyer is his reluctance to play our best 3/4 players in the positions they will thrive most in Cairney should play CM, and nowhere else. Tugay never got shunted out to the wing Rochina or King should be floating around behind Rhodes, not shunted to the wing Rhodes is not a lone striker and needs a man to support him ie. the players above I feel like he tries to make the players fit the formation he wants, rather than get our best players on the pitch and work something out from there
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted December 29, 2013 Moderation Lead Posted December 29, 2013 Play fair - how many clean sheets have we had this season? (not directed specifically at you K-Hod but i thought you set me up nicely) Haha, was very glad of your bit in the small print. Problem with Rochina is that the fans call for him to play, he does and then he doesn't contribute.
Rover_Shaun Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Play fair - how many clean sheets have we had this season?8? 6 at homePlenty of defensive abortions with no sign of th3 manager getting a grip on them.

Hard to imagine where we would be in this league but for goalkeeping errors All good teams start with a good keeper which is something that Rovers seem to be lacking this season.
