agree Chaddy, but anybody who says they would rather have Bowyer than Holloway, Mckay, Clarke etc needs their heads checked. Bowyer might be a nice guy, and the best we could have hoped for at the time, but his inexperience is showing right now. like i said, he cant be blamed for some poor defending and individual mistakes, but his tactics and substitutions are questionable. Its okay to get it wrong in terms of setting up your team, but to make those errors again, shows he himself is unaware of where the problem lies

Can I just say that at present Clarke has only half a season more managerial experience than Bowyer, Holloway has still more failures than success' on his CV. McKay has done one good job but cannot be deemed a good manager so have you a good name for a head doctor please.

I agree his inexperience is showing, his tactical nouse is questionable but removing Bowyer now is just crazy. Even Utd fans questioned Fergie's team set up.

Maybe bring someone in short term to assist Bowyer maybe an option. Gibson brought Venables to assist Robson at a time when Robson was struggling and it worked short term. An option could be to bring someone like Clarke on a short term contract to assist Bowyer.

I just think it's worth remembering that a good portion of the second half of last season was also under Bowyer's watch in difficult circumstances.

To be honest, I always thought that it should have continued as caretaker or interim manager the biggest mistake that we made was to install me as permanent manager.

Before then I could see the players responding but as soon as you become the manager things are different, players treat you in a different way and the job did change. The pressure probably increased and there was never any chance that Id go beyond the end of the season.

Ricky Sbragia said that (full piece here http://www.thejournal.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ricky-sbragia---didnt-want-4392559 - worth a read, change the odd name here and there and...).

Anyway, the point is Sbragia did an amazing job in a short spell as caretaker - losing only 1 game in 4 (United away) and kept them up that season.

Quinn probably saw it as reward or the cheap option. Either way, it wasn't the same that first season (and last) as manager.

I think we need a more experienced manager if we are to progress.

I think that a very rudimentary calculation of our gate receipts, and a guess at sponsorship - based on estimated turnovers of some of our sponsors - that we don't have time to wait for Bowyer to get that experience.

I like Gary Bowyer. I like his persona in interviews and I genuinely feel that he wants the best for BRFC. However, as a career coach I don't think he has the man-management skills to cope with temperamental professional footballers. I firmly believe that an experienced, quality manager would be getting the best out of Best and, prior to the allegations, Campbell. Not to bang on about him but Allardyce got Roberts motivated after he started the season without even being given a squad number! It's that ability to draw down on experience, having seen it all and done it all that gets players onside. Bowyer can't do that.

You are right about circumstances though, Sunderland had a lot more time on their side to be able to give a manager time to find his feet, yet they potted him when they felt it was necessary.

Would I pot Bowyer, now?

Given our credibility in the football world, and the kind of people that Pompey brought in, I would be afraid of who we might get. Holloway or Mackay, yes. Provided Gary could be kept on on some capacity. (Which means I would be putting the feelers out).

However, my gut tells me that our ship has sailed and, barring a takeover by someone happy to subsidise the clubs losses and pay FFP fines/tax - perhaps we already have those owners WTF knows - we are going to have to cross our fingers, toes and whatever else and hope that if we can't be promoted, we still have a professional football club to grumble about.

Am not convinced about Best or Campbell, but can't really disagree with too much else there. It's very much going to be a case of hoping Gary continues to improve and learn from his mistakes, because chances are we aren't going to get anybody better with the current lot in charge.

Here's another one, in season 2010-11 when we nearly went down we managed 21 points from the first 17 games under Allardyce and 22 from 21 under Kean. And if memory serves me correctly, Phil Jones suffered a serious long term injury in Kean's first game. So judged purely on those stats there isn't that much to choose between Kean and Allardyce as managers which clearly isn't the case and shows just how misleading the selective use of stats can be.

Correct simon it isn't the case. The difference extrapolates to 49 points over a season for Allardyce and 39 points for Kean. Which in turn is the difference between relegation and mid table which in turn is worth at least 50 million per annum. Which is all that football is about nowadays. Venkys pressed the suicide button when the fat controller convinced them that Kean was a top manager good and proper didn't they?

Crazy looking team today and a gamble on his part but it may just work

It seems Cairney is in the middle through suspension to Lowe and within 15 minutes he's created a chance that Rhodes scores

If only he spotted the obvious earlier!

Sadly he's stuck on the wage bill. Gestede doesn't need to be.

Gestede would be the only strong/fast/powerful forward we have - Personally I say he looks a decent acquistion - Cardiff played him 20+ times last season and won the league (since you like stats that suit agenda's)

All this without mentioning he scored the winner in a for the "blue and white army" today.

Well done today. Now we are about where we should be.

I hope that Lowe is treat in the same way as Kane if Cairney signs permanently. Neither have been particularly good before their suspensions. Kane went out for Henley who did very well and has since not played. Williamson is IMO better than Lowe and gets unnecessary stick whilst doing the same job, as Lowe is in regardless of his midfield partner, and if Williamson plays, it means that Cairney is wide and we are inbalanced, and it happens to be with Williamson in the team.

Cairney and Evans with Williamson as 3rd choice and Lowe 4th would be good for me.

Fortune favours the Brave

Well done to Bowyer for being more adventurous today.

I have certainly given him stick for being over cautious on hthis board recently so credit where credits due.

I think this result breaks a sign that Leeds have had over us that goes back 40 odd years if not more.

Now we need the consistency sorting................................there is always more to do.
