Amo Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Bowyer can take a bow. He's Lawro's "Man of the Weekend" for his attacking gameplan against Man. City.

Backroom DE. Posted January 6, 2014 Backroom Posted January 6, 2014 A dubious honour to say the least.
USABlue Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Think you've got the wrong end of the stick USA, I WAS a stayaway under that rat Kean, but came back as soon as he was sacked. I was there on Boxing day and probably will be at City for the replay. As for forgiving the owners, or trying to, that will never happen, and I'm surprised you're advocating such a stance knowing where you come from and which era you grew up in, maybe the US has softened you up! No no no Gav. I'm not defending the Venkys. Just seems like some look for justification not to go. Softened me up? Heh heh @#/?. It's criminal what they have done but what ever happened to being a fan? Seems like so many now ate just bitch mongers. I often wonder what sort if treatment my old heroes would get now. You know the Faz's Meccys et al. Theyd probably get ripped a new one on here. Yet we idolized them often putting ones body at risk to go watch em. Dunno I guess it gets under me skin sometimes. Estranged from the team I loved since childhood for over 30 years and I still love my Rovers following every move every day.

I think what happens with a lot of fans USA, is that when they fall out with the club, they fall out with the game, hence why so many never go back.
Dan Furness Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I think what happens with a lot of fans USA, is that when they fall out with the club, they fall out with the game, hence why so many never go back. I think more and more people are and will fall out of love with the game. It's going down the pan it really is.
rigger Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I think less and less people are actually playing football, at any level. Personally I think this reflects the amount of passion for the game, in the people of this country.
Stuart Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I think more and more people are and will fall out of love with the game. It's going down the pan it really is.The thing that's making me fall out of love with the game the most is TV companies taking all of the games onto, effectively, PPV. The FA Cup and World Cup used to be sacred cows. Now they are cattle to the highest bidder. They will kill the golden goose as people eventually switch off, that's if it doesn't all pop first. The only glimmer of hope is that it might send people back to the terraces and out of their arm chairs.
Gav Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I think more and more people are and will fall out of love with the game. It's going down the pan it really is. Yes, I couldn't agree more. Football not that long ago was about the fans, now it's about the players, agents and TV, and thats hard to swallow for a lot of people.

Going to be interesting to see how streaming is combated in future with people continuing to turn off due to being unable or unwilling to pay what TV companies are demanding. It'll become quite a big (illegal) business imo.

Football not that long ago was about the fans, now it's about the players, agents and TV, and thats hard to swallow for a lot of people. Exactly. Sky are to blame for all of it. Money has ultimately ruined the game. I prefer us getting less media attention down in the Championship but just don't find myself really interested in it as much as I used to. Inflated wages, massive egos etc. Ruined it for me.
FGS5635 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 In many ways I prefer being in the championship than the premier league. Reminds me of the golden days when the leagues where more balanced and its not dominated by the mega rich.
broadsword Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 In many ways I prefer being in the championship than the premier league. @#/? that. Whilst I will support Rovers no matter what, it's all about winning.
Jimmy612 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Kean that. Whilst I will support Rovers no matter what, it's all about winning. Oddly ironic We are actually winning more games now. I do take your point though, it's all about being the best that you can be. Having said that, I wonder how much Palace are enjoying their season.
speeeeeeedie Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I have no idea if this Guardian article has been posted elsewhere but it credits Bowyer and highlights some of the relative quiet at Ewood lately; http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/jan/09/blackburn-rovers-championship-burnley-venkys?CMP=EMCFTBEML853 The same journo did write this though; http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2012/mar/21/steve-kean-blackburn-manager-of-year
Paul Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 First remark I made to my wife when I got back from Ewood was "I can see us playing Burnley in the play offs" - even at this point I find that exciting and frightening in equal parts. Imagine the police operation for that in Lancashire let alone Wembley! After Christmas I didn't think we had a hope of the play offs but here we are two weeks later and our next two games will have a massive impact on our season. Beat Forest and Derby and we are right in the mix - four points would probably be enough. It does though highlight the opportunity we threw away at Christmas. Wednesday and Birmingham should both have been beaten by a side looking for promotion. I can't really fathom this team or manager. Terrible results at home over Christmas, by all accounts excellent at Leeds and more than matched City. Yesterday I thought we were flat from the beginning and got worse as the game went on. Played well enough in the first half and SHOULD have been 2-3 goals ahead but there was no spark almost as though the team was on autopilot. That is the conundrum , we don't know how to go for the jugular. Young team, young manager perhaps it's what we have to expect. I'm still not confident just as the team is not consistent.
gumboots Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 The Rovers Burnley play off scenario is causing havoc in our house because my daughter and her fiancé cant plan their honeymoon in case that final happens and may not speak to one another for months after their wedding if it does.
Gav Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I'm still not convinced we’ll make the play offs, we're not consistent enough but we have 20 or so games to work on that I guess. Can’t believe I’m saying this but I’d much rather miss out than play that lot down the road, not because I’m worried about getting beat so much, but the whole package of a Rovers v burnley game in the play offs would send me over the edge.
Stuart Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Daft as it sounds, if Bumley finish 3rd and we finish 6th I think they will be more worried. A lot will hinge on "the 19th". But we are getting ahead of ourselves. Bumley could finish 5th and us 8th.

I'm with you on that. Being on the other side of the world is horrible on Derby day, sleep deprived, on edge, family don't get it. A play off derby would send me off into a Prozac binge.
den Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Rather miss out on the play offs? People find it too easy to ignore the consequences of not going up.

Tell her to dump him! Do you want grandchildren with hoofs instead of feet?
JAL Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 GB just needs to find some replacements for his soft centres (Lowe & Williamson) now, then the team, along with the fans, can look forward to the season finale with confidence.
Stuart Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 JAL. I'll save you the suspense. Bowyer will play Lowe in EVERY game that he is fit. He is the first name on the team sheet every week and Bowyer is basically staking his reputation, and promotion, on Lowe.

Fine Stuart, then there will be less probability of promotion for Rovers this coming season.
