thenodrog Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Amarillo...... would you prefer Saturdays line up or a five man midfield with Cairney in the middle of it and Gestede up top? That is the current obvious alternative on form.

Shabani Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Drop one of Lowe and Williamson, explain to them that there isn't two places in the team at home for them Then move Cairney inside and play Campbell down the right
thenodrog Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 With Craig Short there i'm confident that team GB would be able to identify and bring in someone who's competent for the position afterall they've not done too badly with the Rudy and Cairney signings .I'm sure you won't mind me saying that by neglecting to provide a name or two as a suggestion for a suitable replacement your point is somewhat vaccuous and your subsequent response is a bit of a cop out. Drop one of Lowe and Williamson, explain to them that there isn't two places in the team at home for them Then move Cairney inside and play Campbell down the right Campbell? That would really disjoint the team. You'd really put Campbell in before Taylor, Dunn or King? Are you suggesting a 4-3-3 as at Leeds would continue to prove successful?
Shabani Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Down the right, i think he is able to play with a bit more fluency than others. Less square peg-ish Also liked his cameo at the end of the City game
jim mk2 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 There's some great amateur managers in this thread who clearly know more about it than the professionals. Perhaps though they should stick to their area of expertise. Subbuteo.

Parsonblue Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Drop one of Lowe and Williamson, explain to them that there isn't two places in the team at home for them Then move Cairney inside and play Campbell down the right Gary is not going to drop a holding midfield player if that is the way he wants to play. At the end of the day it's the manager and not the fans who decide tactics. Clearly they work on things in training and the fact that Cairney has had a major impact in games whilst playing wide suggests that it's not seen as an issue at Ewood. It's rather like the fans chanting for Rochina in matches whilst the management know his best position is sat on the bench. Gary clearly wants two holding midfield players and it's not turned out too badly thus far. There's some great amateur managers in this thread who clearly know more about it than the professionals. You're behind the times jim, it's the computer "Football Manager" games that have made everyone more of an expert than those who have spent a lifetime in the game playing, coaching, managing etc.

Jimmy612 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I must admit as we went deeper and deeper in the second half, I did suggest putting Cairney into the middle and pulling one of Lowe/Williamson off. Reason being I felt that we needed to get a foothold back in the game. A cool head, capable of keeping hold of the ball may have just swung the momentum back to us. As it were, Bowyer clearly thought that too and brought Dunny on to try to be that person. ** As an aside, did I see someone criticising the MoM award in Hanley? I thought he was excellent on Saturday. Every time they put a cross in (which they did quite a number of times in the 2nd half) Hanley won every single one. For me he's getting better and better and imo will certainly be a PL centre half sooner rather than later.I do hate his stupid attitude at the moment though whereby he has to run over to every little incident and start pushing people in the chest. I used to do that when I was @#/? sometimes... soon stopped when I got thumped properly. Perhaps he needs similar treatment. ** Little word on Robinson too. Although I've never been his biggest fan, it's great to see him back in goal. Vital for the back four to have him there, such a big voice to have behind them. Loved his passion at the final whistle as well - clearly enjoying being back and he does have a huge love for Rovers.

With the talks been about Scott Dann being available for sale, if a suitor can be found. If he was to leave and a more powerful centre half could fill his place, then hopefully with this it would reduce the need for playing two defensive central midfielders in the team that was my original point Theno. You give us a name Thenodrog as my subbuteo players dont seem to have names on their backs unfortunately.

Shabani Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 OK, I'll put it this way Is Cairney our best CM (of course) So why not play him in the centre. An argument can be made against it away, but not at home, surely?
Amo Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 come on, that was one of Jim's better ones, very humorous I thought it was very Jim-like: dated and not funny.
Stuart Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Cairney has had a major impact in games whilst playing wide. That's just not true.
jim mk2 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Cairney played well in the wide role in the match away to QPR, and a few others too. I've seen him play poorly in the middle. This debate really is futile and scars the away match-day threads from the moment the team is published with Lowe in central midfield to the final whistle when Lowe (according to them) invariably is responsible for every defeat while being given no credit in victory. It really is pathetic.
yoda Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I thought it was very Jim-like: dated and not funny. yes neal
yoda Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 eh? re jim's post Its like posting at a dentist sometimes on here

You're behind the times jim, it's the computer "Football Manager" games that have made everyone more of an expert than those who have spent a lifetime in the game playing, coaching, managing etc. You have to realise that fans will not agree with everything that Bowyer does. I also personally think that Cairney is much less effective on the right and that one of Williamson and Lowe could make way at home. This is an messageboard to give opinions. I also disagree with Kamy's theory that fans don't see what Lowe offers. I understand that his job is to provide energy, do the dirty work, win the ball up, mop up loose balls etc, but not only do I feel that he is not particularly good, but I feel that he is unneeded at times.
yoda Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Bowyer's best traits seem to be common sense and honesty. He's making massive improvements for those two reasons alone, IMO. The play against Man City had me thinking that this squad could survive in the PL, if only we could get promoted. We do have Sioux, Apache, etc. We have no official language, but prefer English (though Spanish is also massively prevalent). The rest we keep in the closet until convenient. For example, our use of Navajo during the WWII Pacific campaign. I think we prefer English as that's the language of our forefathers. My ancestor, William Henry Moss IV, was a North Carolinian who fought against the English during the Revolutionary War. His ancestors, Richard and Edward Moss, were from Lancashire and fought for Charles I against Cromwell before immigrating (or fleeing- your choice). That family history is repeated millions of times over here in the USA. So what I'm getting at is that its our language too, so if we Americans chose to butcher it, that's our prerogative. Moved out? More like evicted. Which is a shame as I think the British Empire would still exist (and likely would have been unstoppable) if only George III and his advisers had the wits to give us colonials the rights of Englishman. Return the land to the original owners? Never. But if we did something better for them in exchange; we made them Americans. And on that point, everything we've learned about invading, colonization, etc., we picked up from you. So glass houses and all of that. I'm not sure what the airport reference is about. Are you really hiding behind the "French beat us" excuse? I thought it was a capital crime to assert that France could ever overcome England. A more correct assertion might be that you were beaten by colonials (Englishmen or the descendants of Englishmen), but only because the French threw a cheap shot when you weren't looking. And I agree that there was a missed opportunity, but you brought it upon yourselves. But as I have a soft spot for England, I'd be willing to vote to make you guys state nos. 51-60. I'd even vote to let you keep the Queen, if you really wanted. In the 80's your special forces landed at the wrong airport in Syria I think it was looks like the retired pilots and navigators are still at large in civvy street http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-25715186
Beta Ray Bill Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I thought it was very Jim-like: dated and not funny. We should savour jim's comments about Cairney's position. You won't find him defending a right winger very often.
yoda Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 We should savour jim's comments about Crainey's position. You won't find him defending a right winger very often. even though Jim used to be one, maybe still is
Gally Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 That's just not true. It's hard to argue that he's not more effective in the centre, but that shouldn't get in the way of what he brings to the team out wide either. A week or two ago, he was named in the Championship team of the season so far, and I think had created the most goal scoring opportunities in the division. He simply couldn't have done either of those things without having been effective when played on the wing (probably about half of his games)
Parsonblue Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 That's just not true. If he hadn't had an impact Stuart we wouldn't have signed him. Cairney has said he's happy playing on the right, Gary wants him on the right. The only folk unhappy seem to be a few fans who think they know more than those who work on the training ground everyday. "Football Manager" certainly has a lot to answer for
