AJW Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 As we all know the Jules Rimet trophy was replaced for the 74 world cup because Brazil got to keep it due to winning it 3 times well by my reckoning Brazil again Argentina Italy and Germany all go into next years tournement on 2 wins does anyone know if another new trophy will be commisioned should one of those nations make it 3 ? i dont know about anyone else but i'd be sad to see the current trophy go

Audax Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Italy has 4 wins ('34, '38, '82, '06) and Germany have 3 ('54, '74 and '90). Brazil has the one and only Jacques Jules Rimet trophy, I don't think another one will be made. I don't believe there is any problem. It would have already been dealt with.
Stuart Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I think the original point was the number of wins since the Jules Rimet was permanently awarded. It could be argued that the current trophy should be permanently awarded to the country that wins that one three times. Mind you the footballing authorities are not the most consistent of organisations - at any level. Who is Jacques Rimet, btw?
Audax Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 On Rimet's initiative, the first FIFA World Cup was held in 1930. The Jules Rimet Trophy was named in his honour.- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jules_Rimet I see the point, so since Brazil got the original Rimet in 1970, Italy and Germany and Argentina have won the World Cup two times. By this reasoning, Brazil would also be in the running since they have won it 2 times since 1970, 1994 and 2002. It is not known whether FIFA will retire the trophy after all of the name plaques at the base are filled in; this will not occur until after the 2038 World Cup at the earliest.[13]FIFA's regulations now state that the trophy, unlike its predecessor, cannot be won outright: the winners of the tournament receive a replica which is gold plated rather than solid gold.[9] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World_Cup_Trophy
FourLaneBlue Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Nobody gets to keep this one, no matter how many times they win it. That point was made when they came up with it after letting Brazil keep the Jules Rimet.
AJW Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 didnt know that four lane blue, i suppose that answers the question , but it wouldnt surprise me if fifa did a u-turn
thenodrog Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 At this point it might be prudent to ask the question "Who cares"?
