I don't disagree..... but there is already a thread on Mr Kean.

There's already a thread for Jordan Rhodes too ;)

Besides of which it isn't just Kean. He's a big part of the problem but the two main issues - poor quality defenders and inadequete midfield cover - have been an issue since wee Stevie took over back in 2010 and only addressed briefly by Appleton at the expense of trying to play any form of football.

I think if he's here then the manager will play Rhodes. So despite the fact that we struggle we have to find a way to make it work somehow.

The key imo is to flood as much ball playing talent as possible behind him

Id have a 4231 with lowe and cairney as the 2. Swap lowe for evans when he's back. King dunny and rochina as the 3 in any combo position you like and JR up top

As for the back 4, gk and clean sheets, not sure what we can do personel wise re that, so I'd play the team above in the hiope that a) we dominate possesion alot helping the back 4 b ) old kevin keegan of you score 2 and we'll bag 3

Its not perfect, but if JR is going to play alone up top then this is the only way I can see it working with 5 good ball playing players behind him

I always found it was the cb's that appeared to be causing the main issue by bypassing mdfeld when possession was regained. whether mdfield is mobile enough to play that way I'm not sure.

TBF to them when williamson and lowe are infront of them I'd consider bypassing them. With 5 good players all capable of taking the ball in space to feet it should give me more options and confidence to play it into feet in midfeild and stop JR trying to chase or hold up direct balls.

Struggling to pick myself up after Saturday's performance. Usually after a day or so following a defeat I can pick on one or two things that would have made a difference, but it really is a case of where to start analysing that performance.

Brighton were better drilled, they attacked quickly and with purpose, any Brighton player who wasn't closed down would progress with the ball. In contrast the only one of our players who looked like he could cause a problem (or even wanted the ball for any amount of time) was Josh King.

Our centre midfield is poor without Corry Evans. Lowe and Williamson struggle to cover the ground and Lowe is like a rabbit in the headlights when he does get the ball. I really think we need Cairney in their - he is an intelligent, mobile footballer.

Judge should join Marrow in the 'signings that didn't work' out section of the squad.

We are all great managers in hindsight but we started at least a couple of players who weren't ready for a match - in Spurr and Etuhu at least we had 2 players who weren't match fit / sharp. To be fair to Etuhu, after his shocking start he settled down and was central to what moves we tried to muster.

Going forward I would play Etuhu and Cairney in the centre, with King, Taylor and Marshall trying to create for Rhodes. I would start Morris at left back.

Getting to be a worrying theme where Bowyer seems to have a differring opinion to everyone else....the fans who saw it, the journalists who covered it and the opposing manager. Reminds me of a certain dillusional scot.........have the balls to tell it like it is Bowyer before all repect is lost

So what would you suggest PB, we leave Rhodes at home when we play away? Who would your lone forward be?

Personally, I'd go with two up top in this League. The quality of the Championship is pretty poor and we ought to be able to cope with four in midfield at this level. Indeed, I'd look at playing three centre-backs and play with two wing backs. It's worth trying anything at the moment because the present plan simply isn't working away from home. Winning away games is the key to success at any level and at the moment our away form is dire.

TBF to bowyer what do fans expect him to say? He cant come out with the truth or it affects the dressing room. Pointless listening to managers these days as they all talk keans most of the time

Plenty of other managers do well by being honest. Results like this point to him not entirely having the dressing room behind him as they seem to take no notice whatsoever

He could say that if you concede three goals, you usually end up with nothing. That's being honest, whilst at the same time not naming individuals.

Most fans aren't stupid. If they think the manager can't see the problems, it will undermine him in their eyes.

Trouble is what do you say when young players are making mistakes? We lost today coz our keeper is @#/?, our right back is dodgy etc?

If you look at our squad now it is easy to see why we are in mid table. We mainly have players who are at best average at this level and unless they are brilliantly led or are very lucky they are going to struggle to finish anywhere above half way in the league. For me, we have Rhodes, Hanley, Dunn and maybe Evans who look to be good players at this level, quite a few who are around average and the likes of Kean, Kane, Judge and Morris who to be honest would be more confortable in the 3rd Division.. It's gonna be a long winter.

Not bothered what Bowyer says to the press, I want to see action on the pitch. I'm sure he's had words in the dressing room and I'd expect them to stay there. Nothing worse than a manager who airs dirty laundry in public. The best managers don't do it - how often did Fergie criticise his team? Wenger never does it. The likes of Mourinho can't help themselves because they love the media spotlight, but his tumultuous tenure at Madrid and his current poor start at Chelsea suggest his criticism of players in post-match interviews doesn't help a great deal.

We should be doing everything possible to attain a half decent keeper on loan and ideally a right back and striker too. We could make do with just the keeper and defender, though. As long as we have Kean in goal we're almost certain to let in at least one goal a game, instantly making things that much harder for everyone.

The question needs to be asked why does'nt GAZ seem to be able to get the best out of Rhodes ( and others )

From what I've read and heard from people who went to Brighton, Rhodes was not only ineffectual but did'nt

seem to put in the effort you would expect from a player who comes across as a genuine decent lad.

Are we back to the ' Holiday Camp ' scenario, all too chummy ?

That is my real fear. I said earlier that Gary has the most important decisions of his fledgling career coming up with his team selection for the next game. He simply cannot keep putting faith in players who have regularly let him down. Good managers in any business have to make tough and unpopular calls for the betterment of the business.

Correct my friend !

Plus let's not forget it's much easier for a manager to make a point on selections these days, with the big subs benches.
