Just out of interest, does anyone think that James Bond should be played by a woman?

If not, why not?

Well they are remaking ghostbusters with womenfolk but James Bond is a male, a womaniser, it would take quite a retcon of the characteristics, amazing that people get hung up on skin colour still with things like this.

(For the record I don't really care about James Bond one way or another just adding a different viewpoint)

Comics do it right we've had a female Thor and a Hispanic Spiderman - although you can bet these will never make the cinematic universe.

Also on the Batman comment, in the next film typically blonde Aquaman is played by very Hawaiian looking Hawaiian Jason Momao

On an unrelated note but not less controversial I notice they arrested a man in connection with the 6 year old abduction in Burnley, he has a distinctly aisan sounding name. Was the description of 'tanned' a stab at political correctness or just from a poor visual sighting?

James Bond could be played by anyone. There's a fan theory that 'James Bond' isn't a person's name, but rather a codename given by MI6. So they could run with that and it could be anyone, man, woman, black, white etc.

As an aside, someone mentioned Russell Crowe, watched 'The Man With The Iron Fists' again last week....absolutely sterling performance from the man.

I'm not against having an actor play bond that isn't a posh white guy(as long as whoever does get the role gets it on merit and not just to satisfy the pc brigade) but I'm not much of an Elba fan, he's good at playing the strong silent type(luther, the wire) but he's pretty dull to watch in everything else I've seen him in, he doesn't have the charisma to be a leading man in a massive role like 007 and also he's a very lumbering presence, a modern bond seems to need the agility of a stunt man. that said bond movies are as naff as the word naff anyway and that wont change until the broccolis give the director complete freedom to express their vision, instead of just pandering to die hard bond fans.

really, I've talked with at least dozen people today in person(and another dozen online) and its not come up once until now (I guess I just don't live in the real world) but never mind, It was really more of an "observation" I was making, I shouldn't have made it into a question.

(although my answer to the question would probably be that most of the non football threads are being driven by the same small handful of people, its a shame, there's just very little diversity on this site at all theses days)

Uganda prosecutor in 'al-Shabab bomb case' shot dead

Joan Kagezi, the top Ugandan state prosecutor in the trial of 13 men accused of a deadly al-Shabab bomb attack, has been shot dead in Kampala.

Ms Kagezi was targeted by gunmen on a motorcycle as she was on her way home.

The suicide bombing in Kampala in 2010 killed 76 people as they watched the football World Cup final.

More bad stories of the like.
