zero contracts are STILL crap for the unfortunate ones on them .

The facts came out during the election run in that a significant majority of people on zero hours contracts are quite happy with their arrangements and don't want to change anything.

Here Abbey, I've already posted you this once on here. Click the link.http://www.brfcc.com/mb/index.php/topic/30413-the-general-election-2015/?p=1521524

Ludicrous statement in view of the fact the country has been subjected to an idelogically driven austerity experiment for most of the past 5 years (one that has spectacularly failed by the way because the national debt is greater now than when Gideon came into the Treasury) that has been plastered all over the media since 2010. If you missed it the only conclusion must be that you are selectively deaf or are unable to understand the concept.

But the austerity cuts of 2010-15 will be nothing compared to the furore that is about to be unleashed in July when Gideon unveils details in his first Budget of the £12bn of spending cuts (austerity - geddit?) that the Tories promised in their election manfesto. Austerity so far has been paid for by the poorest in society while the richest few have been unaffected - proving that the electorate can be conned and frightened into voting against their own best interests.

Zzzzzzzz

Let them eat cake!

Crikey to think we've got another 5 years of listening to jims moaning. :(

There is a recent case of some poor chap from St Annes going to Switzerland recently to carry out voluntary suicide via dignitas. I understand they are given a cocktail of chemicals which allows them to drift away peacefully.

Jeff Spector was a close friend of mine. Knowing he was very ill then seeing his face on the front of the Mail was upsetting.

It's been a strange week.

Lovely guy. Self made millionaire, took us all to Aintree for the National, private tent, all paid for.

Super fit and realised that in a matter of weeks he would be eating through a straw. Had the guts to face that head on and leave early.

Nothing was too generous. He had an antique Porsche parked outside the office in St Annes, used to wave the keys at me and say 'take it for the day mate' (and he meant it).

Very sad.

Just read this what a brilliantly brave man and what a messed up law to say someone can't be in full control of their own fate.

I can't think of much worse that could happen to a person that locked in syndrome it's no life for anyone and God forbid any of us were facing that same situation you would want out before it came to it.

Rest in Peace Jeff

now if I could be arsed Idonly have to look at all your not football related posts from the last 24 hours and I bet the majority of them would have some anti-muslim related sentiment of some kind and that's your perogative of course, as I said I was just amazed by the amount of time you seem to spend sourcing those articles and the sticking them on here.

You genuinely don't find the rise of radical islam around the world (and all the ramifications therein) a terrifying prospect? Is that apathy Dave or ignorance? You do realise it's becoming a problem on your doorstep don't you? You are aware it's going to get a lot worse unless action is taken to nip it in the bud? What's that old saying? "There are non so blind as those that will not see"

Another 4500 boat people this week have been discovered swarming across the med between north Africa and Italy. At least another 17 doa. Their deaths and any further fatalities are nows solely down to the Italian and eu authorities bringing previous immigrants to European shores rather than towing them back to Libya and politely but firmly depositing them there. Each successful immigrant will contact home and by doing so encourage thousands more. They will be 'sold' the concept that the streets of Europe are paved with gold and that there will be a place at Oxford university for each and everyone who wants it by the people smujgglers and the problem will be never ending and can only escalate dramatically.

No Kebabs for me, I didn't know they made Halal meat really in a brutal fashion. I think a key-point is bleeding the animal, a cow for instance, to death. I guess this pertains to other animals I don't know. Kind of disturbing, though I'm not a vegetarian, one could make the case that any method of butchering is troublesome.

BUT in the UK, 88% of the cows are stunned before being slaughtered, that is something at least: http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/may/08/what-does-halal-method-animal-slaughter-involve

But contrary to what many assume, most animals killed by halal methods are stunned before slaughter. FSA estimates suggest that 88% of animals in the UK killed by halal methods were stunned beforehand in a way that many Muslims find religiously acceptable.

Animals are bled to death regardless of the religious views of the slaughterman. Key here is to carry out the deed in a humane way, stunning the animal so that there is no pain.

Halal slaughter offers no such courtesy, the recitation of some daft old poem and then the deed is done.I'm sure if the cow understood arabic it would probably still hurt.

If you honestly think that every animal that is slaughtered in a regular(non halal) way is killed quickly and humanaly without any suffering then your pretty naive, some of the things ive heard 1st hand by people in those places is shocking and theres also plenty of documentarys and articles out there to back this up. So as I think it was khod who sort of said earlier in the thread if you cant deal with the thought of animals suffering during the slaughter process(not to mention the test of the crap they have to go live through in their short lives) then you shouldnt be eating or buying meat thats come through the mass meat production and slaughter systems and only buy from respectable and fully traceable meat suppliers.

'Humane slaughter' is a complete oxymoron.

Modern western society is perfectly capable of living a vegetarian lifestyle, but we don't because we're greedy buggars and there's too much money tied up in the meat industry. And I don't exempt myself from that. I used to be vegetarian a few years back but only eat fish these days.

Greedy? I'm not greedy, I just enjoy bacon. And steak. And sausage. And haggis. And chicken. And beef.

Nothing to do with greed imo, it's supply and demand. I tried eating tofu and Quorndon products while I had a veggie gf, but it was rubbish. Left me craving various meat flavoured crisps and putting on half a stone!

There are some delicious veggie dishes but I like meat too. But killing an unconscious beast is more humane than killing a conscious one, surely?

I imagine the initial shock from a stun gun is likely just as painful as slicing an artery(when done expertly)

There's a huge range of Quorn products. I eat a lot of the stuff and in most cases I really can't tell the difference. I even have family and friends who are big meatfiends but sometimes prefer to eat veggie burgers over the real thing.

But killing an unconscious beast is more humane than killing a conscious one, surely?

What about using rohypnol to rape a woman? Is that more compassionate than the old-fashioned way?
