yoda Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Deputy mayor of Calias showing the usual high level of intelligence that emanates from the French when THEY have cocked up "On Tuesday Philippe Mignonet, a deputy to the mayor of Calais, said French people were "fed up" and Britain must "take responsibility" for policing its borders. "You're on an island and you can't see that it's your problem to deal with your security. I'm sorry to say so - it's your security," he told the BBC." How did they get there in the 1st place you stupid frog
T J Hooker Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The mayor has a point though and i kind of love france, ive only been a few times, but never had a bad experience and found thecpeople are actually friendly as long as your not acting like a tool(which is the case on most parts of europe) but calais has become a dump though, it looks like somewhere from 'the walking dead'

INVADE Then again with the Tories cutting the armed forces still further we'd probably not be able to raise a fighting force these days....... Wrong thread I know

How did they get to Calais? Through the new Maginot line I suppose, What do you mean by the bit bold ?
Backroom Mike E Posted June 24, 2015 Backroom Posted June 24, 2015 He has not got a point. How did they get to Calais? Through the new Maginot line I suppose, What do you mean by the bit bold ? The bit in bold probably just means if people don't act like idiots, the French are perfectly approachable and friendly.
adopted scouser Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The bit in bold probably just means if people don't act like idiots, the French are perfectly approachable and friendly. Or if you're a member of the SS

Well we live in hope, Holland would be classed other parts of Europe would it not ? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-33261281

T J Hooker Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The bit in bold probably just means if people don't act like idiots, the French are perfectly approachable and friendly. yep, simply meant as long as your not acting like the stereotype of a brit abroad(i.e. pished up and lary half the time and moaning about everything you don't like about their host country in the other half)
thenodrog Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 Why does that matter? Very few french appear willing and able to speak English in my experience.
yoda Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 yep, simply meant as long as your not acting like the stereotype of a brit abroad(i.e. pished up and lary half the time and moaning about everything you don't like about their host country in the other half) Have you been going on those cheap package holidays then, not really the way to travel and learn is it. Why does that matter? Very few french appear willing and able to speak English in my experience. Except some of the thousands now moving to the south of England and London to get away from the French tax system and working practices. Imagine that, a French Ghetto in London! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18234930
T J Hooker Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Why does that matter? Very few french appear willing and able to speak English in my experience. and very few brits can speak French or any other 2nd language unless they are brits that come from families that moved here from another country at some point during or before they where born(india, china, Pakistan, Africa, Caribbean, another European country, etc......) and the elders of the family have brought their kids up speaking both languages. O I suppose there's also the welsh and their made up language

O I suppose there's also the welsh and their made up language There's about 250,000 Brits living in France, I would say a very conservative estimate is that at least 60 to 80% can speak and read French well, There is just short of a Million in Spain, same again for the % estimate.
T J Hooker Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 obviously I was talking about British people as a whole(particularly those livng in Britain) also those being able to speak more than 1 language fluently(or there abouts)not just a few words and lines to get you through a meal in a restaurant/bar(your stats are just nonsense made up by you) You seem to have a personal chip on your shoulder towards France, I wonder why that is hhmmm.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted June 25, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted June 25, 2015 Yoda has lived in France previously I believe?

Will be a lot bigger numbers than William brought in 1066 thats for sure. btw I expect they speak English only cos it suits their current requirements.

I was asking because you always seem to backtrack when anyone takes you to task on things you post. http://www.theguardian.com/money/2012/nov/26/where-do-uk-expats-live I am fairly certain that the people you regard as "nice" in France are the ones taking money of you, you know the ones when you call in with your van to a service station on the French autoroute and pay €2.75 for a grande crème in a minute cup that you ordered by pointing at the machine and cup. I still think you remind me of a P&O builder by the way.

Will be a lot bigger numbers than William brought in 1066 thats for sure. btw I expect they speak English only cos it suits their current requirements. Speaking a foreign language that doesn't suit your requirements wouldn't get you very far now would it. I thought you'd be full of praise for them for 'integrating'. You may be fluent in Klingon, Kyrgyz and Kawa, but it would be pretty pointless living in London.
