[Archived] Rovers v Millwall: Ewood Park - December 14th, KO - 3pm

the Jason Lowe type of midfielder is constantly berated by rovers fans for some reason. It seems a lot of fans are only interested in the stats of who scores/assists etc, football is a much more complex game than that and every team needs players like Lowe.

Probably a bad example but Keith Andrews was another who suffered the slings and arrows of our fans because they couldn't see his worth.

I agree he is not creative, when SK played him on the wing he was ineffectual (but that's why SK is in brunei)

Very good post JB although I don't expect you will silence the boo boys with it. They cannot exist without a scapegoat / hate figure. Must be the East Lancs inherited flat cap mentallity. Rem Stan Ternent famously slating the Burnley boo boys by saying witheringly 'That lot over there (with a nod to the Bee Hole mob) have champagne tastes and beer money'? Bee Hole / Blackburn End there is little difference imo.

However moving on the attractions of Brunei are not restricted to the football, and anybody who believes they are needs to wise up. From the appropriately named 'Nomad Capitalist'. I think Muttleys new house is second pic down ....... http://nomadcapitalist.com/2013/11/17/top-5-offshore-tax-havens-bank-secrecy/

As the old saying that 'Python' Eric Idle made famous.... "Nudge and a wink, say no more". :glare:

5 goals and 3 assists (was it?) in 11 starts. Yep, he's good enough.

BUT I don't believe he'd have helped vs Millwall in those conditions. Rocjina needs to play in semu-decent conditions at least to have any effect.

Ah, stats?

How about these stats -

3 years, 7 goals from a creator and goalscorers.

On loan at Zaragoza 15 appearances, 1 goal.

Never established himself as a regular starter, even in a poor rovers squad crying out for a creative playmaker, or goalscorers.

.....and that last line says it all really.

I know the club is constantly surrounded by negativity, and this is something that I have got used to in the past 3 years - however I still do not understand the whole "Jason's not good enough" debate.

Ignoring such facts like he has played for every level of England up to u21 or (not to mention) has filled in at both centre back and right back. Or forgetting that he has been picked to play Mark Hughes, Sam Allardyce etc. (managers with much better understanding of football than yourselves)

He is one of our best players - simple as. You'd have to be either ignorant or an imbecile (most likely both) to not see the effect he has on a game. The work rate and commitment, sheer speed and agility are his strengths. I agree he is not creative, when SK played him on the wing he was ineffectual (but that's why SK is in brunei) - however you need players like Lowe in the team to give the more creative players the ball back.

I have watched football for 20+ years, always looked deeper than who scores or sets up the goals. The way Jason breaks up play is a joy to behold, and I think he is compliments Lee Williamson's creativity, understanding and experience. (something Jason doesn't have) I also think GB should be commended for keeping him in the position over Cairney, who is not a BRFC player. It shows how he rates Cairney though,(by playing him in a weaker position) and hopefully we will get him for keeps.

If your comparing Jason to worldies like Tugay, (which is easy to do considering it wasn't to long ago when he wore blue and white) it's easy to be negative - but for this level at this time, Jason would likely get into most championship teams. If he continues to improve - I see him being a top flight box to box.

The only way to change this would be to force fans to watch and study a video presentation of Jason's actions during games with an analysis of how the team benefited.

In the meantime, we will just have to watch and listen, as his positive contributions are missed and his mistakes highlighted.

Many already have an unshakeable diagnosis and all new information is merely selected in/out and interpreted according to that diagnosis. Just glad these people are not my doctor or judging me in a court.

This morning, I am Henry Fonda...

Weird isn't it Leonard? I've witnessed it for decades and the selection of a scapegoat amongst the know nowts mimics the spread of a virus.

How can you stand on your soapbox when you do exactly the same with Rhodes?

Easy..... Cos I'm right on both counts. AND unlike you and your chums I make my own mind up about a player rather than emulate the ovine species by letting the opinions of the less perceptive influence me. Just as an aside Suarez is now seen to be the worldie that I said he was last spring when the selfrighteous were up in arms about him biting that Russian and recommending that he never play again in this country.

btw I stand by my opinion of JR on Sat here...http://www.brfcs.com/mb/index.php/topic/29796-jordan-rhodes/?p=1469771

What do you find inaccurate or incorrect in what I wrote amarillo?

Remarkable how often you feel the need to toot your own horn, so to speak. Definitely the sign of someone with an inferiority complex. There's really no need for it, Gordon. You do know your stuff, at times, and this forum would be worse off without your contributions. However, even when praising him you can't help but lace it with a backhanded compliment. If Saturday's result had gone awry, I'm sure we'd be looking at another episode of 'How Do You Solve a Problem like Rhodes?' courtesy of your good self.

Bit of an odd statement, this. It suggests that the majority of people considered his talent and temperment one and the same, which isn't true at all. Most people were perfectly aware of his immense talent, but disgusted by his unprofessional/unsporting attitude, which seems fair enough.

Just seems like another attempt to, as Toppers said, 'toot your own horn'.

To be fair to Theno most people do toot their own horns in-front of a PC (personal computer not a police constable theno) these days.

Thats a bit of a sweeping generalisation. I dont think I toot my own horn. Then again, thats what makes me the greatest poster on the internet

Poor game in very difficult conditions, but a good result. I'd take a few more of those scrappy three points until we're up the League a bit further.

Essentially Rhodes made the difference between the sides not for the first time and I thought he had a very good all round game.

Watched the game from a different angle than usual from one of the lounges in the Darwen End and got a totally different perspective on the game than normal. Other than Rhodes there wasn't a lot of movement in the side and players weren't making obvious runs to get into good positions to receive the ball so there is a lot of room for improvement on that display.

Gestede, dear me, can only think a cameo five minutes at the end of games wasn't in the job description.

When was the last time we had a team that passed and moved in the accepted manner ? I'd say you have to go back to the Souness era. Mark Hughes team were hard to beat and pulled off some famous results but even then we hardly shone in the off the ball movement stakes. Big Sam's sides were the same, after that we became totally static as a team.

Rovers' display away to Celtic in the Uefa Cup under Souness was the best I have ever seen from a Rovers side - and that includes the very fine 1960s team. Then we lost to a late header, which proves that results are everything and style counts for nothing.

You could always tell the difference when Rovers were playing a truly top side like Ferguson's United. They always worked so much harder than us off the ball in terms of both closing us down and making space and having multiple options available when they had the ball.

That part of the game isn't so much down to talent but how badly the players want it and how prepared they are to go that extra yard.

1975 home V Plymouth is up there, especially the second half
