[Archived] Leeds game, New Year's Day

Recommended Posts

Bit of notice for those planning on going to Leeds (a) in a couple of weeks' time.

Funny bunch these Yarkshire types. Train service around here is running as normal on New Year's Day but there are no buses at all. Now I've often got the buses (that are put on specially) from the city centre to the ground and back - but they're not running. So if there is a bunch of you I suppose an option is to get a taxi from the city centre otherwise prepare for a 30 min walk.

Public service announcement over.

Can you get to the ground by train on any local services?

No, the grounds out near the motorway so the easiest option (depending where you're travelling from) is probably train to Leeds then get a taxi from the station to the ground. Don't take the black cabs out the front d the station though as they're normally twice as expensive as local firms like Amber cars or arrow. There's plenty of parking near the ground if you're alright to drive after New Year's Eve!

I'm on train down in the morning but it looks like you can get a train to somwehere called "Cottingley" which is nearby. Will probably follow your advice re taxis though as train only hourly and probably unreliable. First game since Burnley away for me so looking forward to it.

McClarky, Cottingley station is over a mile walk from Elland Rd. City centre station I would guess is best part of two miles. There won't be many trains stop at Cottingley though - every hour or so at a guess, so unless you let lucky with times, I doubt Cottingley is too realistic.

If you travel to Leeds by train you're usually rounded up at the station and escorted to Varsity then forced up to the ground in mini buses and taxi when the plod decide they want you there. We managed to evade them for a good few hours last season by going nice and early though.
