After criticising Scott Dann on twitter his wife just followed me, I expect a telling off ala Danny Murhpys Mrs now ha

Careful, if he's got the missus involved he may be after stirring things up and looking for a pay off or free transfer ala Murphy :)

I've said it before and I'll say it again the big problem with Bowyer that showed again today is that he doesn't know he best formation or his best eleven and that is why we have shown no consistency all season. Two holding midfielders are not needed at home especially Lowe is not good enough yet seems un droppable, that was one good thing today when Lowe got booked as according to the bloke next to me he is suspended for Wednesday. Also playing the those two in there Cairney is pushed out wide when he is far more effective in the centre, I do wonder if Cairney will want to stay at the club if Bowyer is consistently going to play him out of position.

As for the overhyped Rochina he got his start today and showed why he is over hyped he's to weak and luxury that we cannot afford, I thought Judge looked good when he came on, he has actually impressed me a few times this season in the little game time he has had. We do really miss Dunny though and Josh King as in our four best performances this season Barnsley, Bolton, Bournemouth and Watford King was absolutely outstanding in all of them, having said that Marshall played well today, but we only had width on his side as Cairney drifts inside which you would expect from him as he usually play there.

Good post.

Rochina is officially @#/?. In my head. King likewise. Dunn is the man but unfortunately always injured, mind you if he was always fit he'd be in the Big League wouldn't he?

Anyway, 2nd half was great. A shame the previous 3 halves weren't. Apparently we're going bust soon anyway so no need to get excited really. Either way.

WE are the Rovers.

Good work Tom. Immense.

I thought 3-0 flattered Birmingham in the first half and we were punished ruthlessly for poor individual errors.

Having said that we carried on in the second half and played some good Football.

Cairney HAS TO play centre mid

Williamson doesn't do enough

Marshall was brilliant in the second half

Gestede put a good shift in when he came on, won a lot in the air and helped build attacks

Rochina was dissapointing, perhaps struggling for fitness? or just not happy considering his recent Twitter posts may suggest he's looking for a move. Either way I think if we persevere with Marshall and keep giving him games, we could have a player on our hands.

  • Backroom

Just seen the goals and i still think Lowe should do much better at the back post for the first and the second is a pathetic attempt at a tackle from Rochina, that clearance for the third is worse each time but the backpass wasn't great. Kean did one very similar recently but they didn't capitalise.

Rhodes maybe should have done better with the first half chance but I thought Williamson had a better chance he decided to pass.

I thought it was Eastwood that headed it not Dann in the last minute (I also thought it was cleared but it hit the post - new glasses please)

As an aside we took some of the worst free kicks you could imagine today, Judge and Cairney (or was It Marshall) even argued over one of them then Judge skied it

After the dross of boxing day, the team seemed to start with a more positive attitude and we were impressive going forward.

IMO, all of the goals we conceded were very poor... too many times the lack of challenging for the ball and being content to stand-off and give the opposing team time to play the ball has cost us.

Just where were our TWO holding midfield players first half? Williasmson has never been good enough but Bowyer insists on playing him. Why? As for Jason Lowe... he hasn't got a tackle in him and continually allows teams to play a ball. Very poor imo.

I read about being paitient in our play... it seems to me that people are sick of the sideways ball or our midfielders always playing the ball backwards. The boxing day game summed up what is so wrong about boring unadventurous negative play.

As for Rochina, just how much playing time has he had this season? I would prefer someone who at least tries to play, who tries to attack than the negative play we have had for most of this season.

Let's hope we can do something at Leeds and make up for the 5 points we have dropped.

On this patience thing –let’s get it straight. Picture the scene that happened over and over again in game against Brum when we were 2 and then 3 nil down. Dann/Hanley pick the ball up just inside our half. Looks up. He sees all players from both sides (apart from keepers smart arses) squeezed in one third of their half. There are 5 (and it was often 6) Brum players strung across the back, 4 in front of them. Getting it forward early as many seem to suggest was going to be utterly useless especially with just Rhodes to aim at. We did the only thing we could (except we are not the best at it) –keep 2 men out wide at all times and try to pass our way through by keeping the ball. If this meant passing sideways and back for a couple of phases then so be it. When the line up changed 2nd half with a more physical target man, then the options changed and the ball went forward much more quickly. Even then, it was pleasing to see that the players ignored the hysterical screams –yes they knocked it long lots of times to our new front man but they also, even at very late stages, knocked it round the back line until a better opening occurred. When top sides (man U etc) are losing, do they lump it forward aimlessly? They just keep patiently playing the same patterns with more intensity.

On 2nd goal and rochina. Whatever you think about rochina’s performance yesterday, it would be harsh to blame him for the goal. Yes he lost possession easily but this was high up in their half. Where were those 2 holding midfield players who are meant to protect the back 4? Surely one of them should have been around to snuff out such a long range shot?

Cairney needs to be a stronger in these situations. To easily he is bossed out of taking it by stronger characters who continually kean it up. That birmingham wall was huge. 3 of the 4 man wall where over 12 foot tall (disclaimer---may have exaggerated a touch ) The one judge took in the 2nd half was impossible to get up over that wall and then down into the net from where it was taken. Cairney should have been taking that left footed everytime, yet judge just grabbed the ball and bossed him away

My issue with passing it around the back 4 and then the central midfield and back around the back is not with the people passing it around, my issue is the appalling lack of movement infront of them.

Why do the midfield not come and take the ball bringing the opponents midfield forwards and out of position thus creating space for players further forward. You can pass it around the back allday to create space and as a tactic it makes sense but our poor movement further up the field actually means we are no better off after the 27 passes as no space has been created and we lump it forwards anyway ... In my opinion.

That incident was bloody pathetic. Judge takes an OK free kick but he had only been on 5 mins. Not only that but the wall and gk appeared to have been set up to prevent the right footer (Judge) from scoring. Cairney had a much clearer shot and a better angle for a left foot attempt. Judge should have feigned to shoot, run over the ball and left it to one of them.

Just as an aside as it seems now forever and a day we never seem to have any alternatives in our locker. It's always either a shot or a cross. Imagination and well practised routines cost nowt.

*sorry FG... I've just repeated your point

Agreed.

That has been the case for years. Only variation has been the ball to Tugay on the edge of the area.

This game was all about Bowyers soft centres in the form of the two invisible central midfielders Lowe and Williamson ,Scott Dann and the keeper.

If GB has anything about him he'd be dropping Eastwood for the next game, looking to cash in on Dann this jan and bring in a harder more experienced central defender to partner Grant and drop the two central midfielders JL & LW and then maybe Rovers can progress in this league thats if they really want to.
